Replying To 222:  "Did seem to be last minute given club championships are just starting. Probably perhaps a mixture of everything, demands of the job and a little bit of pressure on next year. The camp this year didn't seem a happy place and who knows maybe more player withdrawls were looming plus lots of retirements. Agree with a previous poster a clean break is needed. Looks like Gallagher is gone to Derry. An internal candidate is probably a safer bet as we are in transition. Will Mark couinihan, Andy callan, David Mc caugue be looking for it? All recent underage managers."
Prefer internal man definitely as big reset ahead but some great young players to bring on. Yeah agree think a lot of the stuff that people predicted for vinnys first year came to pass this year as he seemed to get the bounce in the first year from the players but the roof fell in this year. Things are bound to get worse before they get better especially with inevitable retirements and players stepping away.

He just needs to get a few more journalists (apart from the Irish News) to mention he's "in consideration", we've seen it over the years in consideration for the Down job, Derry job etc. and funny enough never got any of them, I wonder why?

Would love to see someone like a Dessie Dolan who might get our forward play firing a bit more. Unlikely he's interested but had decent progress with Westmeath - Tailteann Cup last year, promotion in the league, competitive in their tough championship group. Bit disappointing in their Leinster campaigns however. He also had Jason Sherlock involved with him in Westmeath.

Well he has a few spin men on this forum. Friends I would imagine, with very limited knowledge of the GAA scene. I can assure them Banty is not getting the gig. I honestly think the best bet would be to try to get Vinny to reconsider. Like I said previously this is a five year project to totally rebuild. No one in their right mind could have believed it was only a matter of changing managers and continue to stay at the top table. Especially not after the damage done by the Covid era manager. In fairness to Vinny he was introducing young players alongside the experienced lads with unbelievable results. It was always going to be tough going as more of the veterans got older, with young lads coming in alongside other rookies. Where would Armagh be today if McGeeney had been hounded out when they languished in Div. 3 as he slowly rebuilt. We are not Kerry/Dublin with their conveyor belt of talent. Definitely a step back in losing Vinny.

I don't think you can say "unbelievable results." .. apart from the win against Dublin in first round of the league and a decent showing against Galway in last game of the year, the players did not look interested, which suggests poor man management by Vinny. Some players need to be treated differently to others to get the best out of them. It seemed that Vinny ruled with an iron fist, which annoyed a lot of players.
We played a very defensive style of play but I think only Waterford or Tipperary had a worse defensive record in all of the league divisions.
There is no doubt that Vinny has contributed enormously to Monaghan football over the years but I do think a change is needed (backroom team included) for someone (or combination of people) with no loyalty to the older players and also a change of tactics. We'll probably need tactic changes anyway for 2025 if new rules are introduced.
Why not have a combination of home grown talent like Couinihan, Callan, Mc Caugue and Dermot Malone too. Our minor and U20 teams over the past couple of years have been a joy to watch with their counter attacking style of play at great pace. It certainly beats the over and back and backwards style of our senior team for past 2 years. Harte in Tyrone brought young talent from Minor success to Senior All Ireland titles. We should look to do this now in Monaghan.

Replying To SouthMonMan:  "Corduff, who lets face it, should be lower Intermediate level, will now still be playing senior football in 2025 (3 years in a row now at senior) and could reach another senior semi final this year. That's a dam good record with lmited talent.! and I'm sure if you ask a Corduff person, they are well happy.
I don't think Corduff has brought football to the dregs, every County team and Club team in Ireland have a hand in that. Armagh supporters don't care that this years final would put you to sleep and I wouldn't care either if it were Monaghan.

Anyway, back to the main topic though. Agree that Banty + Gallagher would not be a popular choice and we don't want a split county over this or we'll just go further downhill, but who are the list of candidates ? reaslistically.???
I think Micky Harte would also be an unpopular option.
We need a manager though who has been there done that, either as player or manager. Lets not waste the talent we have coming through from recent Minor and U20 teams."
How do you see Corduff and Ballybay going the weekend

We need to go all out for Gallagher before he accepts the derry move, him and Banty can take us to the promised land

Roscommon doesn't have manager vacancy.

My point is Monaghan need to get the right appointment in place so that we could potentially challengebefore the super powers of Kerry and Dublin regroup."
Ah Shaggy, the first statement in your original post would suggest you're just lying now!
Look, rivalry etc is great and it's all part of the game. We were devestated last year after you beat us on pens in the quarter final but 99% of Armagh supporters wanted to see you beating Dublin & having your day. You were close but fell short. We went up and got over the line and I think it's unfair to suggest that the standard in football has dropped dramatically just because we won, it actually sounds sore, championships year on year are about winning.
This BS of comparing against other years etc is just a waste of time and irrelevant. It's all about winning Sam, end of. Championship football is where it's at, end of. Last year you were top 4, this year you were a crossbar away from knocking Galway out.
You are very close, Mickey Harte would be some appointment in my opinion, 3 All Irelands won!!! If you were to win next year I'd be slightly annoyed as it's not Armagh but I certainly wouldn't be ridiculing the standards because the big 2 didn't win, I'd be delighted to see new winners and would be sending best wishes to enjoy the celebrations etc, because, believe me, it's a great feeling.

Says a lot about you as a person if you were happy with RG being appointed. Sadly there's lots like you.

Can't see how any CO board would want the hassle of bringing in RG. Would be a poor reflection on any county

I thought senior players ran him out in 2022. Very suprised if it goes this way AGAIN. It was a very average three year term from 2020-22 even with his high profile back room teams. Any reason on here why vinnie left? I was sure he'd see out the three year term.

ZERO success in 8 attempts at an Ulste title.
Panic on the line in the last 20 mins in 2007QF cost the county its biggest win.
2010 Ulster final battered tactically and all the limitations exposed.
No amount of cash will erase those facts.

Money aside and what he is, Banty had 8 attempts at an ulster title and delivered zero…. I for 1 will be ripping up my season ticket if he's back….
