Replying To Gaawestmeath:  "Yeah it was a decent performance overall for CBS. Scahill didn't even play which is a good sign that they could win handily without him. They've a lot of running power in the team but they won't dominate midfield like the previous two years. They kicked lots of wides too but still they looked as well drilled as ever and confident in their plan. How did the other Westmeath schools do?"
Moate got beat by Clane by 3 and St Josephs Rochfortbridge won well against Malahide.

Replying To Claretandblue:  "Will Scahill didn't feature at all today and that alters their side dramatically, 10-11 of last year's team were in 6th year so huge turnaround in players. Pat's Navan considered favourites overall."
4 of last years AI winning team started for CBS on Friday. Team in transition but still very strong. Scahill to come back in and new lads settling.

What about the Intermediate Football Final. 2 local rivals going at it.
I would have had Shandonagh as favourites but Kavanagh's suspension has changed the whole thing significantly. I am going for Milltown by 4pts.

I think it's a huge psychological battle, Milltown are absolutely good enough to win it but they've not come out on the right side of many battles with Shandonagh over the last few years. If they can get the heads right and play their best football I give them a great chance.

If Shandonagh lose two in a row along with the minor loss it might set them back a little although you'd struggle to see anyone in the Intermediate again next year as strong as them, likewise with Milltown, as I don't think Tang will be the force they were a few years back.

I thought Milltown were very impressive when I have seen them this year. Very balanced side and I fancy them in the final. Kavanagh is a huge loss for Shandonagh but they have had some time to prepare a plan without him and there should not be much in it

I feel the same. Milltown have a very strong half forward line that would give any team in the county a headache. Two neighbouring clubs. I have a feeling this could finish up a draw after normal time.

Surely you could say exactly the same about the Shandonagh half back line.

I agree,Shandonagh have a very solid half back line. There's a difference between having a solid half-back line and dealing with a half-forward line that can genuinely win a game. Milltown's half-forwards have the potential to cause Shandonagh serious problems, and I think that's one of the key battles in this final.

Completely understand why Shan are appealing but he hasn't a hope of getting off. And if he does it's a brown envelope job.. a strike is a strike there's no way of sugar coating it.

Strange, given a straight red for striking an opponent. Can't see any appeal being upheld.....

The Shandonagh half back line have been putting up big scores all year, maybe they will have more to do defensively on Sunday but Milltown will be conscious of stopping Scully, Treanor, Carr and Scahill from getting goals. Shandonagh midfield the key to victory, Faughnan and Conlon are a fine mobile pairing

Replying To BadgerDog:  "Not sure of how concrete this is but its what I've heard so don't shoot the messenger. Twaddle left Athlone, Caulry parted ways with Dineen, Conway gone from Tang, Higgins left Tubberclair, Mullingar Shamrocks parted ways with David Martin, Malachys parted ways with Tumelty, Daly gone from Moate and Gavin gone from RBridge."
Gavin is staying on with the Bridge again next year, and I think Conway is staying too. Martin is gone, but I haven't heard anything definite about the rest.
Daly and the management team apparently stood down from Moate late last week. There's talk that Higgins is interested,I can see moate going with him. but I'd imagine there'll be a few others throwing their hats into the ring as well.
The other name I've heard is John Murray, who is apparently seriously interested. He's a former Moate player and county winner, and he's won numerous county and provincial titles as a coach with Brigids over the last few years. If Moate could get someone like him in, they could be a serious force to be reckoned with. He'd certainly be an interesting appointment.

I see the college league competitions are back again with some rounds played already. Anyone hear of any Westmeath involvement? There has been an increase of Westmeath players involved in recent seasons which is good to see. You'd imagine TUS Midlands will have plenty of Westmeath players although they are in the trench cup for this year .

Enda Monaghan announced as Shamrocks manager and rumour is Keith Higgins is the new Moate manager.

John Murray has never been the coach with St. Brigid's when winning county or provincial titles. He has been involved but modern teams often have lots of coaches for different aspects. Westmeath's goalkeeping coach this year hardly credited with leading us to the Leinster. Mark McHugh's team.

It's his brother James who has the Moate job.
