Replying To OverTheHill85:  "It was NUIG first team; some good players from Roscommon on the TUS team also. Cian Whitney and Darragh Delaney from Moate, Taylor Slevin and Paul Keegan from Tubberclair, Shane Corcoran St. Malachys and Brian Ronan from Milltownpass. Good to see a strong representation from the county. The Sigerson team doesn't seem as strong alright; but a good freshers teams should improve that in the coming years."
McNamee too, was on the winning cbs team from last year and Cole from Kinnegad is another decent player for them

Replying To Fighting-Cocks69:  "Yeah it's kind of like the Trench Cup at Fresher level really - all the smaller colleges in it. You've got MTU,Kerry, Carlow IT, Donegal ATU, Trinity, Mary I, Limerick IT and Waterford IT, and I think St Mary's belfast as well.

Only eight teams in it, so they're definitely one of the favourites. They've Trinity in the first round on the 26th of January."
It's the top grade completion TUS are in it was Nuigs first team.

Team is up there now, looks like basically full panel bar Sam McCartan. Any other main starters missing?

Yes very strong with Sam the obvious absentee, Ray on the bench. Senan Baker a sub too.

Very good display against a poor Offaly team. Westmeath dominated bar ten mins in second half, five goals with Brandon and Danny Mc scoring two goals each and Ronan Wallace three points from play. Senan Baker impressed when introduced. Final on Friday away

Very impressive display overall not to take away from the win but thought we were second best on our own and opposition kick outs. Also the 10 minutes either side of half time we were second best Offaly just not good enough to properly punishment.

Ray Connellan
Sam Smyth
Shane Allen would be in contention also.

A very strong performance today. Brandon Kelly was outstanding. He should take some of the pressure of Luke this year. So many people stood out today. Senan did well & got goal when he came on and Harry Niall also did well.

Tadgh Baker is slotting in very well on the half back line. Some very healthy competition this year which is great to see.

jesus, they were poor. They'll struggle badly in Division 2. Outside of Hayes and Egan, there wasn't much happening for them at all. What was really poor was the shooting. They must have kicked 7 or 8 straight into Daly's hands in the second half at our end.

From our side, that was a solid performance. I'd be happy enough to stick with that half-back line going forward. Maybe move Whittaker to wing-forward when Sam comes back.

Agreed. Can't see Luke on the half-forward line again - it'll be himself and Kelly inside. I also think Cooney is better suited to midfield. I'd like to see Cooney and Ray start there in the final, and maybe push Lynam further up the pitch to give us another option on kickouts, can't always go short, probably won't work, but could be option

Fitness is a huge issue at this time of the year and Westmeath look super fit, that will level out once league starts, good to win and get a third match but league is crucial

Well done to the lads on reaching a final. Thought we lost focus at times and let offaly get a run on us for 10 mins.
Not much to be learned from that game. Offaly are poor.
