I think Howard is only an ace up the sleeve if he hits form which is something he has not done for quite a while now. On his day he is unreal but those days are few and far between to be honest. I genuinely believe if he could string 4 of 5 big performances together he is FOTY material but at 26 now I think he's in danger of the years passing him by without having fulfilled his potential. I would absolutely love to be sitting here in August though with him having put in a big summer but to date I can't really recall him putting two big performances back to back never mind a full summer. Fingers crossed he can hit the ground running and really add something to Dessie's starting 15.

Hardly a ssssshhh about Howard when he started the Leinster final. Eoin Murchan played against laois I presume he pick up an injury since then.

I'd agree with that. He looks like he has all the tools to be a key player on the team, but a lot of games seem to pass him by. He hasn't really pushed on at all in the last few years.

Howard is supremely talented and hugely influential, hes had a hard time building momentum with injuries as opposed to unfilled potential - full tile he's on e of the best in the country. Part of the problem is he's, so good he can play anywhere, so often does and thats an incredible utility option for management to use - while for the lad he cant focus on a "spot". It reminds of the talk about Diarmuid Connolly pre 2011 win.. jimbodub (Dublin) - Posts: 20763 - 25/05/2023 12:50:04 2481490 Link 8 |
Very difficult stuff there today jimbodub (Dublin) - Posts: 20763 - 28/05/2023 18:06:41 2482234 Link 7 |
I agree that Roscommon are a very good side. We unfortunately, at the moment, are not. Kildare will be a toughie next week for sure, nothing guaranteed going forward, every game from now will be hard work.

Jimbo the favourites for the All Ireland is worked out by actuarers who work for the bookies and most of the thinking behind it is where the big money is laid.In other words if a few million euro was betted on Clare or Sligo tomorrow then they would be favourites( no disrespect meant to both counties but I cant see them winning sam this year).Kerry were favourites but after Mayo beating them easily then obviously big money went on Dublin afterwards thus making them favourites. Its possible that might change tomorrow or at least the odds might change.Anyway well done to Roscommon but Dublin did nt lose either so they still on target for top spot with the Rossies.A very warm day today for players over 30.The only provincial winners to win their game against seed 3 opposition were Galway.Again does it bring the provincial system into question? The teams beaten earlier seem to have more bite at the moment but we will all know more after round 3 is over.I still think its a silly system where 3 out of 4 teams qualify (although as a Kerryman i might be damn glad the way we going at mo) and where the seed 3 teams are stronger than seed two teams. One thing that most of us can definately say is its the most open All Ireland in over a decade with more than a handful of teams capable of winning it .

Hi RealDub.Yes Roscommon are a good side as they proved v Mayo and had a good league too but to flip that the otherway they still did nt beat Dublin and both the Dubs and the Rossies at mo are still on course to battle it out for top spot in the group. We in Kerry were worse than Dublin and we trying to battle for a second place spot and that might be tough too.No doubt Dublin have gone backwards but still have the players that could win an All Ireland if they click as do Kerry but the other teams are on a par now so the big games could come down to a bit of luck.Today was also the first time the Dubs played div 1 opposition since last yeas semi v Kerry.Yes Dublin look weary but would nt write them off.A shout out to Dublin hurlers today too.

Yes indeed Mick, it's pretty open in fairness. A lot of it down to who clicks on their day. There is no one nailed on this year I feel.

Dunno why people thought this would be a walkover for the Dubs. Roscommon are a very good team with a superb manager. It won't be the last scalp they'll take this year. Dark horses for me to reach the last 4. SimonstownBack (Meath) - Posts: 163 - 29/05/2023 08:40:18 2482438 Link 1 |
That was a hard watch on so many levels. You wouldn't subject your worst enemy to that first half in particular. Not since McGuinness' blanket of dandelions and anti-football have I seen anything like that passing around inside your own 45 for 5m stuff. It's effective though. Dublin didn't have energy or intensity, didn't push up on their kick-outs, lost ball around the middle and looked very shaky at the back. They may get used to it and Kildare are coming to Kilkenny with a 12 tog duvet and a couple of midfield giants. Kildare v the Rossies should be a thriller! Gavin found a way against that type of car park football but it looks like Farrell has work to do. Joxer (Dublin) - Posts: 4743 - 29/05/2023 09:20:35 2482450 Link 9 |
First stint out against Div 1 opposition and made hard work of that. Was awful fare from Roscommon first half, but look you have to play against it, they took some great scores - was one of those days - buy my god we were very open at times. It certainly must be if you're entertained by that. I wonder would you have held that view if you were beaten by 3 or 4. The novelty of the enjoyment of the effectiveness of the system soon wears off when the losses come. I'm not singling out the Rossies either. I've never had a problem calling out Dublin over the years, under Gilroy especially, when they played that cautiously. But the game as a whole is in reverse as a spectacle. From the pace of the pace, physicality and intensity of the hurling match to the funeral procession of the "main event" was some contrast. Dublin didn't bring fire and they have to this Sun. There's no better way to deal with these systems than to go 3-4 points up against it and make the opposition come out and play.

Big win alright - looked in full control but have work to do still. Very sloppy for 2nd goal. Some excellent players on that team. Fionn (Dublin) - Posts: 4228 - 02/06/2023 10:52:24 2483527 Link 1 |
Hope the Dubs did very little training this week in the heat jimbodub (Dublin) - Posts: 20763 - 02/06/2023 13:55:57 2483584 Link 5 |
Two weeks ago, I'd nearly have looked on a six point spread as a good thing. Uneasy feeling about it for some reason. BarneyGrant (Dublin) - Posts: 3508 - 03/06/2023 16:26:35 2483742 Link 5 |
