Nice to see ex Dublin and Kilmacud Crokes player, Ross O'Carroll playing for Coolera-Strandhill yesterday and actually scored a point in the game.

Well done Ross. Enjoy the celebrations of their 1st ever Connacht SFC Club title.

Replying To Fionn:  "Pleasantly surprised that both Cuala and Na Fianna won their Leinster SFC and SHC titles yesterday.

NF were excellent and full value for their victory. Great celebrations in Glasnevin.
They have a real chance of making the All Ireland Club SHC Final hopefully.

Cuala - wow. Game was won but they conspired to let Ardee, hats off to Ardee, back into it.
But what a year for the Dalkey men.

Fitting that Mick Fitz scored the 1st point of the game and also won the free for the winning point.
What a player. He has been phenomenal throughout this club season. Ageless. What a legend.
To get those 2 club medals this year, Dublin & Leinster club, is just reward for him.
Dual star Con O'Callaghan has now won both Dublin Club SHC & SFC, and Leinster Club SHC & SFC
His medal haul really is something else....!"
Did Con win a all Ireland Club SH Medal

Hurlers need to be winning all of these. Drew last three against Waterford I think, including last visit there to Dungarvan?

No Walsh Cup so apart from the necessity of returning to the top flight, it will be Ó Ceallacháin's only chance to run the rule over the panel in anything like really competition. And hopefully off the back of a Na Fianna All Ireland,

Am quietly optimistic of a new spirit, whatever about modest ambitions for the championship.

I will be surprised if we beat Deise down in Waterford tbh Barney.

Think the Offaly game will be a cracker.

Plenty of banana skin games in there for the Hurlers.

All quiet on the western front thankfully, after the shock announcement from Brian.

We will find out soon enough though....

1 is almost certain and we will find out on the other after the Club Championship finishes.

But tbh that earlier announcement was seismic... o(

Good win for Na Fianna in the end. Loughrea had Donal well marked but in fairness he kept at it and made a crucial tackle and then a catch in last ten minutes.

They still have a slight tendency to fade out of games for a bit and cannot afford to have that and the poor shooting in the final. Currie well deserved MOTM but Rushie was immense again despite being taken cleverly out of his comfort zone and forced to wander abroad! And fitting he made that mighty fetch to seal it.

I agree there, slow starters and as you say fade out of games when they should be cruising. Will have to be on their best, for celebration time.

Hard fought win for Na Fianna.
Great achievement for them to get to an All Ireland Club SHC FInal.

Hopefully the Glasnevin men put in a good performance in the Final.
They will definitely need to improve....

Great to see Rushie and Currie taking part in the post match interviews as Gaeilge. Whatever about hurling, Dubs certainly outshine most others on that level. Very rare that we don't have someone capable of doing, Can't recall not in fact. I had assumed Niall Ó Ceallacháin was a Gaeilgóir but apparently not.

CK & King Con are Gaeilgeóirí also.
I am sure there are others in both our squads.

I would think most counties have at least 1 Gaeilgóir in their squad.

No doubt they do but some would appear not to be particularly co-operative with TG4 requests. The format of having the manager do the pre match prelims does not need to be adhered to if there are others connected to teams capable of talking to the Irish speaking audience,

There are teams in the Gaeltacht competition during the summer who don't have Gaeligoiri so fair play to the Dubs for having a choice of them.

How do you know if people were co-operative or not? Irish was the native language spoken in many parishes east of the Corrib when the GAA was founded but it gradually died out. There is a voluntary organisation in Loughrea, Gaeilge Locha Riach that's does trojan work for the language in the area. When you hear some of the Galway hurlers speak English there is still a strong influence of the Irish language in their speech. When you hear most Dubs speak Irish you'll hear the opposite, the structure, the sounds and expressions are from English, a direct translation in most cases. Which is more traditional?

Spoken Irish in Conamara, Corca Dhuibne, Rann na Féirste is the living language. There is no dispute about that, Irish speakers from Dublin or Belfast or Tullamore - or Loughrea for that matter! - are re-learning a language not spoken in their own families for generations.

My older family from north Tipp, not too much of a kick is the backside from Loughrea, had the same Irish influence on their speech but the fact is that they lost the language in 1850s or 60s. Some of their descendants are fluent speakers, albeit with the Bearlachas you refer to,

Gaeilgoirí le bearlachas is fearr ná bearloirí le blas Gaelann?
