Peter Clarke netted two great goals for DCU, great talent with loads of pace. He can play anywhere across the forward line and is an excellent midfielder too, very versatile

Good to get over the line today. We looked a bit leggy in the end. Bench didn't seem to offer much but at the same time , the subs had to be made. Meath unlucky not to score more goals. Westmeath were very accurate when shooting and that got them over the line. Shane Williams and Shaw got two amazing blocks when goals looked on. They fought hard in defence and although the forwards were very accurate, they don't off much defensively. Surely David Williams should be the in the forwards and Clarke out midfield. Well done to Kevin and Co. 3/4 points , keep building momentum. Gaawestmeath (Westmeath) - Posts: 127 - 08/02/2026 23:15:52 2655575 Link 1 |

Yeah I was thinking that swap with Clarke and Williams should be made. When O'Reilly, McCormack and Egerton come back in it will give us another boost, a draw and a win is a good platform to build on now going forward.

Do the top 2 get promoted or just the top team? martyW (Westmeath) - Posts: 342 - 09/02/2026 09:27:18 2655591 Link 0 |

Good summary, surprisingly we didn't look as fit as Meath and they took over in closing quarter, Keyes was really good at corner forward, won crucial possession and scored 4-5 points, Killian good from play and frees, Conor Shaw's block was a match saver, great bravery shown, management made a brave call substituting Peter Clarke after his yellow but the danger of going to 14 men would have surely meant defeat, physically Westmeath are a small and light side, not surprising with a young average age, conditions don't suit those type of players, good to get a win but lots to work on, promotion still a possibility although it's a massive step up to division 2 based on results there yesterday Claretandblue (Westmeath) - Posts: 2571 - 09/02/2026 09:41:38 2655596 Link 0 |

I dont think fitness was a problem. We are light and Meath were more physical plus we lost our shape a bit due to the number of substitutes in a short space of time, lost momentum. Good win though.

I thought it was a good win with a good first half performance. Killian did very played from frees. 24 points is a good score in its own right. It will be tougher to rack up 24 against Laois etc. Hopefully we can keep building on momentum. Goals we need goals. How are we going to address that one. Are we minding the points keeping the scoreboard ticking and waiting for a good goal chance to come. It's hard to keep racking up points while keeping out goals so that is something nice to work on. Meath did miss quite a bit so they will think they might have left a chance behind. It's good to see us getting a result in two tight games. Not sure we were at the same game. From a Westmeath hurling point of view the priority should be to get promoted and retain Joe Mc. It's not go games so everyone doesn't need to get a game at the expense of the results
