Tinahely came with a late flourish last year, who's to say they won't do it again ? Kiltegan are sailing along nicely. I can't see An Tochair getting whatever is wrong with them sorted in time - someone suggested outside management for them and it is probably needed. Can't see Rathnew or Pats coming back from those hidings - could be wrong. AGB looked really good yesterday but they looked really good in the first half against Blesso the previous week before packing it in in the second half. Balto are Balto and will make the final at least. Carnew will make whoever draws them work for it. At this point I will side with AGB to finally come good.

Rathnew and St Pats will be still in the championship when AGB are long gone. willielee (Wicklow) - Posts: 46 - 11/08/2025 21:11:05 2631208 Link 0 |
I have to agree with you here. Pats wanted to rest Dean Healy at the weekend but he wasn't having any of it. The draw tomorrow night will be very interesting. Great matches ahead for the quarterfinals.

I'll only comment on the senior draw as I haven't seen any of the intermediate championship. wicklowsupport (Wicklow) - Posts: 2128 - 13/08/2025 14:29:28 2631676 Link 1 |

On the hurling front I notice that Glenealy are quietly undergoing a renewal. Looking at the team, they have a nice blend of new and older players and all are pretty decent hurlers. . Maybe a year early for them. Bray are still tops in my book but I'm expecting Carnew to make them work for it this year. Freethinker (Wicklow) - Posts: 1827 - 16/08/2025 10:20:07 2632085 Link 0 |
Colm O'Rourke's article in today's Sunday Independent makes for interesting reading. His key points are - there is a lot of talk in the media about manager and his management team's influence in the modern game but at the end of the day results are achieved predominantly by the quality of a county or indeed a club's players. Secondly, he referenced how physically tired Donegal players looked in All Ireland final's second half due to the amount of running they were doing and probably due to the weather. I'd agree with him on both these points - with the change in the rules, the team that can kick pass and score from outside the arc are at an advantage. Two-pointers can stretch out a lead and even a superbly conditioned team like Donegal can be exposed by moving the ball quick which is easier by kicking. I think it was important to keep our current management team at intercounty level but it would be naïve to think that a manager can overcoming a lack of quality players especially scoring forwards and tight marking defenders. wicklowsupport (Wicklow) - Posts: 2128 - 17/08/2025 17:39:44 2632277 Link 0 |

Big talking point at U17 football level lately is the rapid emergence of Kiltegan as a major force in this years competition. Where did they spring from ? They are giving all and sundry a proper hiding in the A division. Freethinker (Wicklow) - Posts: 1827 - 19/08/2025 18:02:47 2632735 Link 0 |
Doing very well and great to see them going it alone. I believe from the socials I read the village were short a few starters ,big result away for Arklow also.

Final round of the u17 in 2 weeks. Kiltegan and An Tochar already in the semis and playing for pride. Looks like AGB might be safe too. Rathnew and Blesso will be a cracker in Rathnew. Loser will be out.

Final round will be interesting to see who makes top 4 Kiltegan are through and it looks like no matter what happens with their own game, An Tochair should will make it. So, 2 out of The Village, AGB and Blesso. Some great football in these games

I don't think hurling will be a distraction for either Kiltegan or Carnew. When it comes to either code they'll be stepping out onto the pitch and wanting to beat whoever is in front of them. I can see the Carnew and Rathnew game being a heated affair especially if Rathnew go behind late on

Anyone have any idea as to why they stopped doing the Garden County Sport championship podcasts? I really enjoyed them last year they added a bit of hype towards the games. Annonymous54 (Wicklow) - Posts: 4 - 24/08/2025 10:25:01 2633311 Link 0 |
There was a post on this a few months back. I think it was something to do with staffing for games etc.

Bray Emmets were dumped out of the intermediate championship today. Obviously, the senior championship is their main target but it must be disappointing for their second team considering they won it in 2022 and were runners up in 2023. Kilcoole look the team to beat in that championship with Aughrim and Western Gaels in hot pursuit. TheChampion (Wicklow) - Posts: 23 - 24/08/2025 19:30:45 2633369 Link 0 |
Who do you fancy to win the senior hurling after the weekend? Can Carnew finally win it? Glenealy aren't there yet.
