Why would you mention 2 players from another county? Players that are starting Taypot (Sligo) - Posts: 264 - 08/05/2026 16:30:57 2671669 Link 0 |

To illustrate my point. The two lads are pushing on. Oshea especially should be on the mayo bench; 15 minutes would be enough for him. Surely we can comment on other players from neighbouring counties!? More importantly the team has been named. Will you be at the game taypot? We will keep the fingers crossed. Twould be nice to get a bit more debate going here.. Cummins on the 40 is interesting. Eddie back is huge. That team might not start of course the usual! I think we will get over the line. Just about. 2-19 to 1-18 Southsligoman (Sligo) - Posts: 22 - 08/05/2026 17:49:34 2671682 Link 0 |

I would be concerned about the game at the weekend. Too many important players missing again (Mulligan added to the list now). Not many teams can absorb that number of players absent. Will be a high scoring game. We are vulnerable at the back with Lyons and Mullen and they conceded a lot against us last year in Tubber. Midfield is a key area - they have a fee big units in the central area, do we have the size to break even? Anto (Sligo) - Posts: 419 - 09/05/2026 10:15:11 2671752 Link 0 |

I thought Toweys interview was a lot more interesting than any thing that has been spoken about all year by the mgt. We will have a tough time on Sunday. Little or no build up, a lot of apathy from supporter plus 2 Provincial deciders on the T.V. MC Guinness returning is a help but I can't see him match fit in his first game back. However he will certainly add a certain bit of power and physical presence that is badly missing. I hope Lally starts. Nice to see Donlon/O Boyle also getting selected. Neither have got much time this year. I think we will concede a lot but hopefully we might score just a little bit more than them. If we keep a clean slate we still might need two goals of our own to get the win. eoinog (Sligo) - Posts: 2429 - 09/05/2026 12:16:57 2671760 Link 0 |

Extremely dissapointing but not at all suprised. Zero bounce this year from new management. I'd go as far as saying, they are out of their depth. We don't look up to speed at TC level which is the most dissapointing aspect of this group. The high number of injured players is a reflection on our poorly managed group. Why do players take on 45 yard plus frees from their hands when it is crying out to be taken from the deck. You don't see Rory McIlroy throwing it in the air before he hits it. I think Gerry McGowan on Ocean commentary was holding back on how he really feels about the set up. One of his solid suggestions was to bring Cian Lally back in to the middle to help us be more competitive in there. He also repeatedlysuggested we game manage better when playing against the breeze. Well done to the U20's who played till the final whistle and got the reward.

Watched the horror show unfold and feel sorry for such Sligo legends fail so badly. Now I appreciate they are not miracle workers and cannot turn water into wine over night. Also, I am one of our captains biggest fans but as they say time waits for no man and time to retire with dignity and pride. Not nice to be walking out of marc park and hearing fans giving out about the way he played and once again the free at the end. Reality is that we lost a lot of players earlier in the year with training workload. Management look a small bit lost on the line and some of the changes they make are strange. Body language of lads on the pitch and when they are taken off is not good at all. I know everyone can blame management but was it their fault our captain had a poor game and how he stayed on the pitch is a mystery but who do we bring on for him? Like the last day v Leitrim when we kicked the ball short - we should have let someone else take the free. Not management fault that Lally 1v1 fists the ball over the line when a simple goal was on. We were eaten alive in the middle of the park, they were more Physical than us - we have been saying for years - we don't have any big men that can play in the middle of the field. The main thing with the new rules is A. need a very good keeper and B. A ball winning midfielder - We have neither. In fairness Gorman was good yesterday but was on his own most of the game. No help from other midfielder or Cummins at 11. When you watch both teams in the Connacht final yesterday, we are a million miles away from these teams. What do we need to do to resolve this? We need to look at the bigger picture - is it our clubs, our coaching , our structures. All I know is that after Roscommon winning the treble last night , everyone in Roscommon now will want to play GAA. Flair play to them. Ballymote Celtic had a Connacht final on Saturday night, so that hangover for the crossovers means the curry score is correct.

Fair play. With hard work Sligo have talent to get back up to speed in the province.

Another favourable draw in Round 2B with the exception of the long journey. However given our record against Div 4 opposition this year nothing is a guarantee. I didn't think we could get much worse than the Leitrim performance until yesterday. I think management are completely out of their depth and given the anger and hurt at the Leitrim result they should have been able to rally the lads for a home game against the 5th ranked team in Div 4. Great post. Firstly I was very wrong. Despite missing lads i thought we would just have enough because of the quality of the opposition. The way we are playing we are an attractive proposition for any team. Losing in fraher would be rock bottom but could easily happen. The lack of size is huge (pardon the terrible pun!) Young walsh would be a better bet than some of our senior lads. Any team bar kerry missing so many starters will struggle. Some sligo players down through the years, I believe, have a sort of false confidence. We would look down at the likes of tipp which is ridiculous. Do the same v Waterford and it will be 3 losses to 3 div 4 teams. 1st year for management and the amount of injuries will excuse the management. I agree on murphy buy as you say who replaces him. No geaney or sean o shea no problem for kerry. Ros have added pace amd size. Bulked up generally and have some star men tbf. Smith is unreal. It is depressing to be a sligo fan atm but I remain positive. Last 20 minutes get niall on. Conor Johnston eddie gorman lally midfield.. Doherty half forward.. canice would be a good 6. Lavin is too small a squad player. There are lads on the panel that aren't good enough for a good senior club team standard wise. Light small.. just the way it os atm. Very difficult to be positive. We really miss lads with positive mentalities: eddie paddy sean c lyons mullen towey paul mac canice.. the lack of men that can kick two pointers is shocking. Most teams yesterday (from all 4 divisions) had 1-12 scored after 40 minutes. Really poor. Time to focus on club football i think! I predicted a difficult match and unfortunately was proved correct unfortunately. We are decimated with injuries at the moment and we simply don't have the playing resources to be without 8/9 players, 7 starters. Gerry mentioned Lally but how many training sessions has he been at over the last fee weeks as he had to deal with other issues. Many of the injuries were a carry over from last year (McGuiness, Carribine, oConnor). For me you cannot judge the management team on this year because of the injury situation. Next year when hopefully we have a clean bill of health, and younger players with a year of senior football under their belt will dictate whether they are a success or out of their depth. Any other mgmt including last years would struggle to deal with the current injury situation.

Hard not to feel bad for Sligo at the minute, they are not in a great place, it must not feel great to be at such a low ebb, losing to Tipperary will be disappointing for them but should take care of Waterford, we might meet again once we get past Down and Offaly. Your keeper was at sea again at the weekend, have they no one else? Another game where you should have won but strange decisions under pressure cost you, I would always have said Sligo are building something up there and dark horses to win TC or even a surprise connacht title, but not now. gaelsboy (Leitrim) - Posts: 763 - 11/05/2026 23:35:52 2672477 Link 0 |

Fair enough Anto and would agree with you on that any management would struggle with these missing players but at least have a game plan. We looks like a group that have no game plan which is the major concern and every team no matter if they don't have quality players - have a plan and structure. Is the joint management working? The decision at the Leitrim game was wrong but that game is over but for it to happen the second time in another game was poor game management. I know you will argue that Murphy was brave to kick the free but he was kicking poorly and off his game and missed a similar one earlier. Quinn was probably brought on for his two pointers? Spillane was after kicking two , why not get him to kick it. One final point on the game plan, i don't know Tipperary players well but I do recall that when we beat them in 2024 and 2025 they have big players around the middle and 6/11 channel, so we need to have a plan for kickouts. See the stat that Conor Carroll got 14 short kickouts away v Galway against the breeze. Say we got less than 5 in the whole game. Sean O'Connor at 14 scored 06 points against us including two 2 pointers, i think he read that he has scored 3-22 in 4 games so he is a dangerous footballer. He got away with murder against us on Sunday but if you are a playing against a player like that - he should not be allowed that much space. Rant over - will head to Waterford for next game but like someone said - time to look forward to the club football. RealSouthSligo (Sligo) - Posts: 149 - 12/05/2026 09:50:20 2672507 Link 0 |

That's fair. I desperately wish for Eamon and Dessie to be successful. Let's get this year out of the way and hopefully they can get best out of group next year.
