Some win that. Great heart. Rode our luck at times but we worked like dogs and deserved to have a little luck. Glad the Galway forward kicked a sandcastle after 57 mins. BreakingBall123 (Sligo) - Posts: 104 - 02/04/2025 20:04:57 2600201 Link 1 |
Sligo 2-9 Galway 2-8 FT, a joy to watch from start to finish. We never dropped our level. The defensive stand when Galway were pressing for a winner in the 55th min was outstanding, I think Galway had the ball for 5 mins and kept probing but we kept them out and under pressure. The madness of them going for the 2pts when level was because of the mental pressure Sligo put on Galway. This is a huge win. We attacked with pace and intent from the off. Do you get paid to showboat between the different counties ?. You have about 3 posts on the Galway page about the game.

Brilliant team performance to beat the raging hot favourites. In the first half you could be forgiven for thinking you were in Strandhill because there was so much sand flying about. With 54 mins gone, the sides level and in a tight game Galway opted for a 2 pointer from a free . Was it arrogance that they coughed up the one point in search of two. ? They missed the free and the rest is history. Sligo handed them their own kickouts every time which was strange as their pace ran riot. Dillon Walsh kicked 3 points from wing back including the winning score. It's not the first time he terrorized Galway at this level.. Lyons was excellent in the corner as was Ross at no 6. Niland took his goal really well and so did Moysten. Rooney was way off the pace when he was introduced but that's what you would expect coming back from injury. He still caught a fantastic kick out when we were under pressure. On to Cloone next week and hopefully we can get another win. eoinog (Sligo) - Posts: 2060 - 02/04/2025 23:14:52 2600245 Link 0 |
There's so much to be happy about with last nights performance. I could talk about a number who individuals who were excellent but as the poster above stated, the fight was incredible across the field. A gamble from management in making a number of changes but credit where credit is due. A huge improvement and we are back in with a chance of reaching a semi final. Well done young men. johncreilly (Sligo) - Posts: 153 - 03/04/2025 07:45:02 2600263 Link 1 |

Galway were All Ireland champs at this age weren't they? BreakingBall123 (Sligo) - Posts: 104 - 03/04/2025 10:45:25 2600290 Link 0 |
Yes. That counts for nothing as we saw last year. Our U.20 team last year were poor and that was the team that won the minor title. We will still struggle to finish in the top 3. We probably need Roscommon to take Galway out of the equation and I can't see that happening. eoinog (Sligo) - Posts: 2060 - 03/04/2025 11:34:19 2600307 Link 0 |
Paid and showboat?. Watched the match live posted at half time and full time on the Galway thread and then gave my praise to Sligo on here. As for you enough of playing the WUM more than tiresome at this stage.

They were but worth taking into account they wouldn't have been with the same format as U20 Connacht has. U17 in 2022 had 1st and 2nd going into Quarter finals and Galway lost to Leitrim,Mayo in the group stage and Mayo again in the Connacht final before beating them in the All Ireland final. Well done Sligo last night that win certainly makes the last few rounds of group games very interesting. Gaa_lover (USA) - Posts: 3566 - 03/04/2025 14:19:58 2600354 Link 0 |
You are wrong about the format in 2022, it was the exact same. Group stage, with top team into final and 2v3. Sligo actually played Galway twice. Losing 0-8 to 4-12 and 3-16 to 1-13 in the semi final. Its a good sign that we have closed the gap on Galway. We could do with Roscommon beating Galway next week but that will be close. If we beat Leitrim then we go through. On the other forums people are assuming incorrectly that Roscommon will beat Galway because they beat us by 9pts but we learned so much from the first game and made some big calls yesterday that worked and the bye week is a disadvantage starting off so I don't think Roscommon are that far ahead if at all and as I said we had some great opportunities in that game. I thought Leitrim would be better than they are showing but they seem to have lost heart. Still feel that will be a tough game. Is Honeyman injured for them? Big loss v Mayo. Kelly is a very good inside forward who will take watching. Sligonian (Sligo) - Posts: 1813 - 03/04/2025 17:21:17 2600404 Link 0 |
How am I wrong? 2022 U17 had both Connacht finalists reached All Ireland Quarter final didn't have to win Connacht as was the case with Galway. In this U20 Connacht championship only the Connacht winner go through. 2nd tier and 3rd tier competitions for the rest.
