With Tyrone winning all Ireland last and now Armagh beating the dubs is ulster football raising back to the days of the early 90s and 00s again or was Armagh win down to them getting a few competive games in the McKenna Cup?

I'm thinking Donegal should win this game tomorrow by 4 or 5 points. While there's a decent level of experience in the starting 15 Mayo have a good number of U20s on the bench. Combine that with the couple of debutantes on the field, plus a very experimental midfield selection and it seems to me that James Horan and co are looking to the future rather than really going hard to get a result. I don't know who of the starting 15 would be an effective marker for Michael Murphy... maybe Stephen Coen? Mayo's flirtations with relegation that ended with the drop in 2020 are likely to be resumed and I think a lot of posters are expecting our lads to be sailing close to that wind again this year. I think Donegal will win and should also be good for the points against Kildare in round 2. A top 4 place I reckon for ye by the end of the league. I think things overall will go well for Donegal this year, though as supporters yer a bit like ourselves, with never being sure before the journey starts. Safe travels to those making the trip... at least Mayo are meeting ye halfway:)

Unintended reposting caused by laptop crash/recovery!

Just noticed the Donegal team announced and Michael Murphy nominally on the bench along with a good cohort of O'Donnells and Dohertys. Could be a day to suit the big man weatherwise, so won't be a surprise to see him take the pitch from the start.

No change of mind on the result... it'd be good to land the points, but I just think Mayo are going in a bit behind Donegal and with a callow enough bench.

Brutal. We won't win anything this year playing like this. Bonner Out.

Major disappointment for the match to end like that.

Felt like Mayo had an extra man for the last 15.

Why didn't Murphy take the penalty?

Mayo also looked far fitter and hungrier at the end of the match.

Positves would definitely be the performances of Langan, O'Donnell and McFadden-Ferry.

Eoghan Ban had problems with Conroy all match.

Very worrying that the management on the sidelines didn't get word to Parton to kick it long during Mayos full court press on the last 15 or the players stop running into tackles.

Ryan Mc Hugh and Paddy were both very poor, especially Ryan McHugh.

Who decided to let Paddy hit penalties? Murphy should have taken it, Paddy is to easy to predict with that left foot, he didn't look confident at all from what I could see through the rain, lucky we didn't lose it in the end a game we should have won by 3 or 4 points,
Great to see Jason Doherty back in action and doing so well, Mayo deserved their draw, must win game now against the Lily whites next Sunday. That point today might just keep us in the division so could be worse I suppose.

Game should have over at halftime... Mayo played the worst half of football I've seen in a long time (even worse than what we witnessed in the FDB v Galway which was excusable as the first outing) and Donegal really controlled every part of the pitch, with great movement and brilliant scores worked. Hennelly kept Mayo in it and was there at the end to grab the equaliser. Considering the conditions and some fairly unpredictable refereeing both teams produced periods of decent football. The dependency on Michael Murphy was very apparent for Donegal. Paddy Mc seems to have lost that cockiness he had in spades as a young fella. Still a fine player, but needs to get that swagger back. I won't go into any analysis of the Mayo players since this is the Donegal thread.

All the best next week v Kildare... they'll be on a high after today, so far from the gimme I thought it might be for ye.

Play possesion football at a walking pace and you invite the other team on. They had all the power and energy in the last twenty minutes that we were showing in the first half. We coughed up a sight of ball because our players were taking it standing and then trying to deliver it to a man who was also standing. If you are not moving then you take all the power and pace out of your game. We got what we deserved and were lucky not to loose. This walking pace football started with Patton and slowly but surely spread to the rest of the team.

Game that should have been won with ease. Possession alone wont win a game, you have to go forward and score. Manager again making a scapegoat of Ward, taking him off and then his replacement getting a Black Card. Ward did nothing wrong during that game, had plenty of possession and never gave the ball away in the tackle, he moved it on to another Donegal player every time he had the ball, maybe this is Rochfords doing, he always took Boyle off from Mayo team after 50 minutes even when he was playing outstanding stuff, Bayle had the Kilometers on on the GPS and was taken off, maybe the same for Ward.

Donegal before this match had questions mark over their bottle.. Unfortunately this performance doesn't quash this thinking :(

I'm telling ye it all stats with leadership and their is a weakness in us from the management down, only for the likes of Murphy and Langan we wouldn't be within an asses roar of any team in div 1,
when it's put up to us, even today by a team like Mayo having a serious off day we wilted, we will look great some days and kick some brilliant scores but in heat of battle this stupid hand passing game carrying the ball over and back and into the tackle will get us beaten time and again when it really counts.
Kildare will be heartened by what they saw today for sure, hope the weather is better next Sunday anyway, also hope we practice kicking the ball this week in training, the game is called Gaelic football after all.
Watch how Armagh played last night for God's sake, it's a simple enough game, kick the bloody ball.

He was limping that's why he took him off.

I think it was Ryan said paddy take the penalty he had the ball in his hands when Michael was talking to him as the ref was Given the card then dropped it down to MC

I think Declan Bonner is very lucky to have another year with this talented group.

Same old story.. 'a game we should have won'. This Donegal team are too soft to win anything. Mayo bullied them again. We keep hearing about how talented they are, talent alone won't win big prizes, you need a bit of heart , men to stand up and be counted when the going gets tough. Apart from Murphy and maybe McGonagle they don't have that. Ryan McHugh would be better talking less and concentrating on his own game a bit more, that foot pass to Patton at the end was shocking, a low dirty ball rolling along the ground.

Ward got a dead leg and hobbled from the pitch. He made a call to the line he had to go. Played well up to that and would have stayed on otherwise.

Ryan has too much to say same as his oul fella, he has more to say about what's going on in the game than Bonner does. I think Michael would have buried that penalty the humour he was in, another one that got away, same old story different day just.

agree with you on Ryan, like his brother Mark and his father they are always able to commentate on what other people should be doing

Michael Murphy. What can one say but he is sheer class. One of the few players over the years who can carry a team.
Moynihan, Joyce, Browne, Canavan, McManus, and a handful of others could do it.

Bonner wilnt be going anywhere in a rush I'm afraid. Penalty summed us up for last 4 years-lack of ruthlessness at critical times that comes from mgt. The 2nd half in general showed our naivity and lack of game management. Other counties have sussed us a long time ago. I'm tired of saying it our best generation of players and our greatest ever rotting away. Sad really.
