Any real surprises in the league this weekend for anyone?
I suppose Carricks second string beating Mostrim would raise a few eyebrows.
Mullinalaghtas big victory over Dromard could be seen as one.
Not so much Mullinlaghta winning, but the huge margin by the end.

The Clonguish result over Abbeylara was a bit of a surprise considering Clonguish are missing around 12 of their panel due to county obligations. I wonder will Abbey suffer a similar fate as Colmcille did the year after winning the championship they end up in Division 2!

The county under 20s could play at the weekend so Clonguish were only missing Carey. Abbey were missing more than that.

All Clonguish u20s were on the field at some stage in the game. Abbey were missing Brian Masterson, Caolan Lynch, Cian Brady. No Colm P back yet either. Abbey will be a tough nut to crack when all those lads are back. Clonguish have Carey, Duggan and Sweeney to come back in too.
A lot of these league games in the next few weeks will be hard to read with many teams short key men.

What's going on with Mostrim at the minute?? At the foot of Div2??

Yes Abbeylara were down plenty of extremely valuable county players. Clonguish without Carey and Duggan but a fairly strong team apart from that

From what my mate (a Clonguish man) told me, Clonguish were down Conor Smith, Cian Sutton, Ronan Sweeney, Matthew Carey, Jack Duggan and Johnny Burke. Andrew Flynn, Jamie Dorr, Cormac Flynn only played the second half along with James Hagan who came on late. Michael Flynn replaced Josh Marsh early in the game after he had to go off injured after scoring a goal. Conor Flynn, Alan Mimnagh and Kevin Baskett from the Longford under 20s did not play. It's only the first round of the league so I don't think anybody is getting too excited!!

The Doc kept Mostrim up last year single handed basically. They've got nothing coming up either. They'll be headed the same way as Ardagh and Cashel over the next few years I'd suspect

Get onto your mate and ask him what their line up was. A lot of different versions so I have been told.

Anyone at the Killoe/Slashers game at the weekend?
How did both teams look there?

3 of Clonguishs under 20s didn't play, 4 if you include Carey.

In normal time, yes. Was always going to be uphill once it went to ET. Some good signs though, so if they can take that effort into Tailteann there might be a surprise win here or there.

Serious improvement from the league encounter at least. Unfortunate we just faded in the heat. A positive performance but still a defeat sadly

I see in the Leader that New York are now in Lory Meagher at semi final stage, playing whoever finishes second in the group. Makes a bit of a mockery of the thing to have everyone play 5 rounds of games to see who goes into knockout and then have New York drop in and almost certainly win it by playing two games.

I suppose the upside is that it will only happen once. They will probably be too strong to be back in Lory Meagher again anytime soon. Makes it a bit of a dead rubber year though.

Was a decent performance to be fair. Will players be released to play with their clubs the weekend

Agree here, GAA just throwing them into the lowest tier makes it a write off for everyone else unfortunately

Tailteann Cup starts on weekend of 10th May. There are 3 rounds of ACFL between now and then. Best thing they can do is release the lads back to play in those games and let them get real game time which will stand to them. Nothing to be gained by holding lads back from playing in any of those 3 rounds.

Its fair to let them play in this weekend's games but county teams do need their players in order to prepare for the tailteann cup. I think the county players will be back training after this weekend's games being played with them. Big wins for Colmcille and Dromard in tight games. Did anybody attend any games in either divisions?
