Well it's true. Poachers job now

I think Declan Bonner would be a great appointment for Leitrim, vast experience and great at motivating young players.

Never ever diss Mikey Graham! Have you ever seen Irish martial arts film Fatal Deviation? It stars Mikey Graham "from the Rock Group Boy Zone" as it describes him in the opening credits. He's easily the best actor in it.

My only fear is that if he does decide to move up, he won't be replaced by someone as capable. Time for a few younger souls to step up and particularly from the larger clubs in the county.

The job is gone to Poacher. I think it's a bad move

We were blessed also to have a particularly strong team at a time Connacht football was at a pretty bad level back then. One would say we should have won 2 or maybe 3 titles with that team, and maybe have made an AI final appearance, not saying that they'd have won that of course."
True. 1995 was the year that got away. I've never been as disappointed before or since that first round loss to Galway. That team had improved a fair bit since the previous year.

Replying To Leitrim1234:  "Gary Reynolds came across extremely well on Off the Ball and highlighted how amateurish and slightly embarrassing our chairman was on Off The Ball after Mickey Graham stepped down. He also highlighted that the Leitrim job is actually a lot more attractive job then a lot of counties when you break it down. We probably are too harsh on ourselves as a small count and are getting a lot of thing right even if we are way behind on some things.

I think it has became apparent that there was a serious falling out with Andy Moran - This makes it even more ridiculous that Mickey Graham wouldn't have been aware as to what he was walking into as he was there last year, would have known the issue was with Andy Moran and would have made sure to do a background check on everything before agreeing to the role.

Plunkett and Dolan are definitely gone, and there's word that Dolan Wrynn might be retiring. Also rumours that Jack Gilheaney might be stepping away but that's not confirmed. Donal Casey is also a long term injury but should be back at some point in 2025

The reality is in a weaker county every manager knows this could be the case it is par for the course. Whats more is that Wrynn who has been an immense servant to Leitrim football was naturally going to become a squad player, Barry McNulty looks like he can replace Pearce Dolan at Midfield and the likes of Ben Guckian, Darren Cox etc. are coming to the fore and can come in for Plunkett. Radek Oberwan and Jack Foley etc. will be well able to fill in for Gilheaney. Hopefully Cillian McGloin will be back and Jack Heslin may also be back if he can recover from a tough injury.

We easily have some of the best forward options in Division Four (even more so if the new rules are introduced) but there is no doubt we are short at the back.
For this reason I wouldn't rule the likes of Poacher out - he is a brilliant coach and theres no doubt he would put a emphasise on defending which we will need and Ryan Jones also knows the lay of the land with Leitrim Football - Theres also rumours that his brother may transfer to Leitrim Gales/Leitrim.

I think Dec Bonnar along with a top class coaching team is the way to go. Whoever it is needs to keep Barry McWeeney involved and be able to commit for the next 3 years minimum. The U20s can't be forgotten in all this as they are the future."
Are the Enda Stenson and Gary Reynolds interviews with Off the Ball available anywhere? I mean I think I found them on Spotify but you gotta subscribe or something. Dunno if that's free.

So do I... must have sold a good story and backroom team. And wasn't he involved with Carlow when they got promoted to Div 3? I don't ever think we should be looking too far away from home as any manager will have to put more hours into Leitrim than most other counties (given a tightly resourced backroom team etc).

Poacher comes across as very knowledgeable and might be the right man at the right time given the big tactical changes that will be required https://youtu.be/L5PKIR5OMIs?si=is-mbs8_JWIBJovq

Twas only a joke square. Graham was probably the most capable candidate at the time. But the job should have been put up for application though. Then we could see who else was available and see really how interested Graham was. There were other quality managers available at the time such as Mike Solan, Mikey Harte, James Horan etc. Now none of these may have even applied but we should've had all options on the table before rowing in behind Mickey Graham.

What was your thoughts on MG jumping ship to Galway so soon after taking the job? You were calling for Moran to be sacked all year and that Mikey Graham was our man. I thought the same to be fair but didn't express it as much on here as yourself.

I don't think we know the full facts of MG jumping ship but the optics do not look great unfortunately from his and Galway standpoint.

Reading above a lot of capable candidates in the mix now to take over in Leitrim, so that is a positive at least. Hopefully ye get something wrapped up very soon and start planning for Div3.

Galway chairman quoted as saying they didn't approach Graham while he was in charge of Leitrim

he would say that i suppose. i think we need to move. and focus on who we can get in, MG isn't fro leitrim and can go where he wants at the end of the day. lets get someone in that deserves the job and someone our players can learn from.

I think the fact that he was in charge and lift has massively reduced the pool of capable applicants. Any quality manager wouldn't want to go near us now. Our own county board failed us by not putting the job up for application.
