Minors playing in Cavan is fine. Ros teams have a decent record there. It's as long as a journey for Derry too. We can have no complaints. Good pitch, good venue. Best of luck to the players. As for Monaghan away. Will be tough. Be interesting to see how many injuries Monaghan have since that game v Mayo. They've a lot of lads out anyway since the start of the year. Best of luck to our lads. Will be a tough challenge. Hopefully we'll pull through. We can't be doing the annual crash out again. We need to stand up and be navigating our way to the last eight. That's the challenge. Thanks to all. moros (Roscommon) - Posts: 1416 - 02/06/2026 11:41:11 2677255 Link 0 |

Forgot he was on here for Scotstown v Brigids also. I wouldn't dismiss Monaghan as you are doing. Armagh many people's favourites to win that All-Ireland needed extra time to get past Monaghan let's not forget. I'll be more than happy with a one point win like Mayo or extra time win like Armagh. I wouldn't fall for any injuries excuse, Tyrone was doing that and their replacements was their stand out players. Anything less that a competitive battle in Clones will be surprise IMO and I for one won't be giving round 3 a single thought until and If we can win this game. No disrespect to you as I see this comment posted lots of times with various match up. "if can't beat × you're not going any further in this competition That's fairly obvious as if you can't win you will be out and can't go any further. Monaghan away is a real banana skin for Roscommon and more so than Cork in Portlaoise was last year or Cork away in 2023. Any complacency against Monaghan will spell trouble. On the Minor All-Ireland quarter-final Roscommon was certainly due a Connacht or Leinster venue against Ulster opposition. I don't get where the idea comes from that it always going to be in Breffni Park? If as they did chose Ulster then brewster Park or Ballyshannon was surely more central location. What team doesn't have issues down the spine of the defence? Shooting efficiency and making the least amount of enforced errors is key under these current rules. Gaa_lover (USA) - Posts: 3979 - 02/06/2026 12:10:31 2677273 Link 1 |

Tyrone v Galway U17 quarter final set for a Meath venue so I can certainly understand the complaints.

They could have played a double header in Mullingar for example. The Dublin based supporters for Roscommon, Derry, Tyrone and Galway (and there are many) could have potentially used the train service. Hard to get a train from Dublin to Cavan. Ashbourne not ideal for Galway or Tyrone either. letsgetgoing (Roscommon) - Posts: 915 - 02/06/2026 14:03:40 2677325 Link 0 |

The venue distance wise is fine per se. However an Ulster venue is an advantage to Ulster opposition. These lads would have played there many times underage and with schools. Most fellas here for example would have played in Tuam if you were half decent. If it was Kerry or some of the bigger teams they'd have no problem shouting about it. Little gains mean a lot at this level.

Good call, Derry 85 miles to match, Roscommon 53 miles so suits both.
