It does nt have to.One the ball is in flight the score has to be counted like basketball.Once it has been kicked or punched before hooter goes.Likewise if a free is awarded and then the hooter goes, the free can be taken and if scored direct it will count. In fact not only did young Kennedy ounch the ball just before hooter but he was entitled to a mark anyway as he caugth the ball before the hooter so the last point was always going to be a score.

Can't claim marks from a free kick I don't think?

Good display yesterday. Younger players really adding to the game for Roscommon. The influx of youth is impressive and needed as the modern game demands it. Thought Lambe, Ward and Carey did well. The blend of youth and experience is good. Noticed a few decent young footballers from the last few years now involved with the Senior hurlers. Tommy Morris, Conor Morris, Mike Moran, Liam Og Coyle all playing at varsity level too. Good win on home soil. Monaghan at home on the back of a poor result v Armagh won't be easy but hopefully a home win is possible. A stay in Division one would be superb. moros (Roscommon) - Posts: 1235 - 26/01/2026 11:51:55 2653290 Link 0 |

Since when can you get a mark from a frees? Cawley won Kerry the match, First goal a square ball, Penalty a joke of a decision and fouls on both Murtagh and Lambe before he gave Kerry the last "free". sourmilk93 (Roscommon) - Posts: 1266 - 26/01/2026 11:54:40 2653291 Link 1 |

I think the point (pardon the pun) is that according to the T.V the clock was slow to start when the free kick was taken. The free was kicked and the ball in flight before the clock resumed. If the clock started when the free was kicked the hooter would have gone before Kennedy got possession. However it's the clock at the game and not the clock on the telly that matters. Kerrys first goal was not a square ball like some people say but the last free kick was never a free

It was a square ball. Penalty was extremely soft too. https://x.com/i/status/2015514456705445999 sourmilk93 (Roscommon) - Posts: 1266 - 26/01/2026 13:19:11 2653320 Link 0 |

The hooter is operated by the designated time keeper .A neutral GAA official. The time on TG4 tv is only an estimate and not the correct time. The official time keeper stops the clock at the refs behest and TG try follow suit but are always a few seconds behind. I watch a lot of Ladies Football and they are sponsored by TG4 and have the hooter system for years. In Ladies football the clock counts backwards instead of forwards and in many of the games on TG4 you will see the clock go to zero and then it will be another few seconds before the hooter goes as TG4 is not synchronised to the official time keepers clock.

You couldn't have got a more straightforward square ball. Even Eamon Fitzmaurice said it was last night.

If you think that wasn't a square ball then you know nothing about GAA. But then you do have form for coming onto this forum and stirring the pot.

That is some team of players that are yet to come back. Great to have strength in depth and hopefully the tight competition for places will raise standards even more and we can now push on next weekend. Monaghan will be a dangerous and wounded animal after their hiding by Armagh. Armagh are potential All Ireland winners so we probably can't read too much into their big win either but Monaghan will need to be given the respect they deserve and hopefully our lads can put in a shift similar to yesterday and fingers crossed that'll see them over the finish line.

That's a good team in itself. I was expecting Kerry to hockey ye, as they really had only 3 newcomers starting, but that didn't happen. In fact, they points were there for the taking. Any update on Ultan Harney? I love the way that man plays football. foreveryoung (USA) - Posts: 2432 - 26/01/2026 14:48:37 2653355 Link 0 |

I don't ever remember coming on this forum and stiring the pot. If I wanted to stir the pot I would have said it was a Kerry free 100% but I actually said it was never a free, and I also said that the clock on the TV didn't restart soon enough when the free was kicked in. I still say it wasn't a square ball. eoinog (Sligo) - Posts: 2321 - 26/01/2026 15:33:25 2653373 Link 0 |

As I said yesterday Roscommon are building a strong panel and no surprise with how strong club football has been in Roscommon and the county team strong at U17,U20 kevel winning Connacht titles. With the right manager/management team should get the best out of that group of players. Remains to be seen if Mark Dowd and Co are the right men, Davy Burke and his different coach every year certainly wasn't. Drax_the_destroyer (UK) - Posts: 668 - 26/01/2026 15:47:19 2653377 Link 0 |

Ultan I believe is back soon in training. Recovering from two recent surgeries, on his cheekbone and ankle. One player that rarely got a break away from injuries. Kerry had 11 players yesterday that played in the All-Ireland final against Donegal last July but a pity one of the rested players wasn't David Clifford.
