Replying To Gaa_lover:  "Was an article published a few weeks ago naming Roscommon players in and out for the year ahead. Duggan was among the out no longer on the panel."
Yes, as he has to have an operation on a groin issue that has bothered him for the last year or two.
The operation will keep him out for 6 months or so.....he has not had the operation yet.
That is why he is not on the panel as he will miss the whole league and possibly championship.

All due respect (and best wishes) to the lad but he was hardly going to keep one of the Smiths, Murtaghs, O'Carroll, Cregg, McKeon out of the team or bench.

Would have stated his injury if that was the case. If he returns for the championship it will probably be for his own county Longford than Roscommon.

Replying To Oddball:  "I don't think Duggan has transferred back to Longford.
If he had, he surely would be on the Longford panel, which he is not.
He's injured at the moment and requires an operation, some injury that has troubled him the last year or two.
He would not be available for Ros this year as a result of it."
Hes way off the mark anyway

Roscommon town not the best place to watch matches tbh but Down the hatch is a nice quiet pub big Tele lot of GAA men, or if you want something abit livelier you would be looking at JJ Harlows

Anyone hear any team news ahead of Sunday? Niall Daly won't play and Ben O Carroll not gonna be rushed back, glad to both bring eased into it. Fallon the only one I think in Sigerson action tonight so will hopefully be able to give Daire Cregg a half anyway Sunday. Looking forward to it and seeing the new rules hopefully the weather stays dry

What's the goal for the league? I'm in two minds. Go all out and it wouldn't be too hard to be promoted playing our best 20. However we really need to blood new players for the first three / four games and finish out with the best 15 for the last match. I'd much rather risk promotion and give game time to the likes of Fallon, Higgins, Doyle, and the newcomers.Connacht more important with the near full panel
We have . Then you can aim for a semi.

Need to be top two at least. We can still try out a couple of players every game. We have a strong panel so we have to get promotion

Need to be in Div 1 next year to get good tests as there won't be Group games in the AI next year.

As we have our strongest panel in years I think that a lot will depend on how the players are performing on the training pitch and adapting to the new rules.. The new rules will insure that both speed and fitness/durability, accuracy of kickpassing and winning long kickouts will have greater importance.
On the plus side having a strong panel will also have a greater significance as I expect that more substitutes will be used all over the pitch.
The new rules will very much suit some of our players; for example C. Murtagh, E. Smith but will not suit some others ( Don't like running down named players in an open forum).
With a strong panel some highly regarded players will not be happy not making the 23 and the starting team. Hopefully they will drive each other on and the team ethic will prevail. Up to the management team to ensure this is the case.
I am very hopeful of a big year this year as this year is a good as any to be optimistic. No doubt Donegal, Tyrone, Kerry etc are thinking the same.

Sunday could be a lottery with the weather that's promised very strong winds and rain. We need to be at our best to beat down. Who are our three best 1 on 1 defenders that we will be leaving inside with the oppositions 3 forwards. Whoever the three are need to be stuck to them and will need pace to

Stack is nailed on anyway and Higgins with his pace so will more then likely get man marking jobs on the oppositions pacey inside man not sure on who the other will be, hopefully Burke has looked at a few new lads and we get to see some Sunday.

While man marking the three forwards will be important, I would also be concerned with players breaking at pace from the half backline and midfield.
I was in Croke Park for the club finals last Sunday and was very impressed with how Cuala broke directly with power and pace in the first half to win the match.
I would think that our fastest backs (guessing) would probably be Higgins, Stack and Fallon. However you also need experience (Murray, Daly's, Ruane etc) to read the play so it will be interesting to see how it plays out.
Pity that the weather forecast is not great.
Hopefully we will give Down lots to think about also.

Used to be after training Thursdays.
Presumably no training last night.

An interesting Roscommon selection. Colm Neary and Pearse Frost in the full back line. Best of luck to management and players tomorrow and for the season ahead. We have real hope.

A few surprises in the team to face Down. Will that be the starting team?
Seven changes from our last championship match against Armagh. In fairness to Davy he is not afraid to shake it up a bit and give lads a chance. It looks like several players with mid-field credentials included in order to gain possesion. Won't be easy against Down on Sunday. Best of luck to the team on Sunday.
