The thing I liked with McGrath in goal in the second half is twice the ball dropped short into his hands and immediately he played a nice kick pass to get the attack going. Particularly the Tony Brosnan shot that dropped short. He pinged a lovely ball 40 yards out to his left on to the chest and we were gone up the field, bypassing a bunch of the Kerry players who were inside the 45.

Replying To jm25:  "No doubt looking at tonight gleeson is the problem with kickouts bringing ball out and long range frees"
If he was playing Gleeson may not have made the error McGrath made for the 2nd goal but he has made plenty of errors like that over the years and been picked the following week by Joyce.
McGrath showed in both halves that has better accuracy and variety than Gleeson and he deserves another chance next week. Kicked a brilliant ball out of his hands that started the move for Oisin McDonagh's 2 pointer. If he gets the same chance and backing that Gleeson got over the last 6 years he will be a very good keeper.

Replying To WonTon5:  "I don't really understand what improvements people are seeing with Eamon McGrath in goal. The kick outs were still long and predictable, frees were missed, and he didn't handle a crucial high ball which led to a goal. At this stage it feels like it's "anyone but Gleeson", which is hard to take when he was the goalkeeper in two All-Ireland finals. McGrath seems to be getting praised for things Gleeson gets ridiculed for."
It was his first senior game. Worth trying again would be my own view. I wonder had the change anything to do with Galligan

Replying To JimB1991:  "Kerry maintained there 10 point lead up to the last 14 minutes so the argument the game flipped at half time is just incorrect. Fair play Galway got a bit of a run on them and a couple of goals in the last 10 but that was an anomaly not a representation of how the game went overall. Good result for Galway though, gives them a chance of staying up."
I don't read it like that, we missed frees, dropped short and were very wasteful, we also gifted them 2 goals so we were not that far off them.

Said Walsh and McDaid will be out a while. Didn't sound like they would be back for the next few games anyway. Didn't mention Silke as it only happened during the warm up. He's not even being asked about Comer at this stage. Conroy back training but probably won't feature for a few weeks. Darcy and Daly weren't mentioned. PJ sounded fed up talking about injuries to be honest.

Cappagh park would be ideal.
They tried that!
It's owned by the council. They weren't even allowed to put a fence around it or erect nets behind the goals.
Next??

Don't be wasting your time trying to have a discussion with Clare from the blog. Read the blog from last evening and posts from S1234, they are exactly the same.

What keeper was on the bench? Was it Flaherty or Gleeson or were they absent

I foresee a long protracted process. This will cost them a lot of money to sort. It is a nightmare for planners and county board.

Conor Flaherty was on the bench and was named to start.

Replying To Kickitout:  "In fairness to McGrath it was his first competitive match in goal he did make a few mistakes but overall was good with ball in hand way better with mid range kickouts and even took a good Free out of defense to find his man defensively deserves start v Ross Gleason has being there for 5 years so maybe it's time to go with different option like outfield players need change things up"
So does Conor Flaherty not deserve a decent chance?

Yes I think he does biggest drawback for Conor is that he plays outfield for club Galway def need settle on a goalie and not be swaping them every game or 2 ( not saying they will do that ) give Eamonn next few matches to settle and see then where he at in his overall game all 3 have there strong points and all 3 have aspects that they need improve on ,,

When's the last time a county team named a goalkeeper and sub goalkeeper from same club? One of the quiz book ;-)

I don't think we need to worry about Clare tonight ;)

McGrath should get the next two games and then assess in the situation during the break week again. I still think PJ will pick Gleeson come championship but McGrath should get a few league games to prove his worth. He'll likely push his club mate out of championship match day squads..
O'Laoi has had a solid league campaign so far.

As much as im delighted with rossies result and wirh the fact that connacht teams now occupy positions 2,3 and 4 in div1, i do think it puts us under pressure to win 2 of our last 4 games. Ros game is crucial

Yes, I don't think 5 points will keep Galway up as Monaghan might lose all their games. So probably 2 more wins will be required. Hard to see us winning up in Donegal although with 6 points on the board already you never know when Jim will pull the handbrake up there. So Galway might need to win 2 more games from Roscommon, Monaghan and Dublin.
