Any word if Mike daly or Patrick Kelly are back for mountbellew? allstars23 (Galway) - Posts: 52 - 30/07/2025 10:11:15 2629203 Link 0 |
No tickets available online for this weekends club games and no word on streaming. Is there any marketing happening for club football championship games? I do see tickets available for Annaghdown v Dunmore. The Whats the Scor app doesnt seem to work anymore. Looks like we will be in the dark for most things club gaa. Thank God for GBFM. ref (Galway) - Posts: 257 - 30/07/2025 10:29:23 2629212 Link 0 |
Kelly hasn't kicked a ball for Mountbellew in three years so hard to see him back this year. Not sure what the story is with Michael Daly, that was a bad knee injury. They will still be there or thereabouts with Eoin Finnerty and Colm Mannion back. Couple of good young players coming through as well.

Eagerly anticipating the club season after a disappointing county run. Hoping we can bring in some fresh talent, especially some man marking backs to suit the new rules. Also great to see how a few of the young lads training with Galway all year will kick on for their clubs. Predicting a Salthill-Corofin final, with Salthill finally reclaiming the Frank Fox Cup. On the assumption of Joyce remaining in charge and with no coach to the skill set of Cian O'Neill in the backroom team, should he go all out to lure Paddy Tally to Galway for the next year or two? rover08 (Longford) - Posts: 447 - 30/07/2025 20:38:21 2629362 Link 0 |
I am still gonna say there will be some big shocks and surprises this year with the 2 pointers now, it's a new game. I also don't think Corofin are what they were. Moycullen seem to have a lot injured. Salthill don't ever have the fight in them to win it. It's wide open.

Paddy Tally is a good coach no doubt about it but Im not sure if defensive structure is our key issue, even though defence did clearly regress this year, whether that is O Neill going or the new rules or selection issues or a mixture of the three is hard to say. There are very good coaches within the current set up and I wouldn't be writing off the likes of Morris or Graham on the back of a year where fatigue seemed to play a big role also. I do think there needs to be a freshening up in terms of selection of players so maybe a few new faces there. To my mind the speed of our ball movement/transition into attack needs to be resolved as a priority. We are still a bit stuck in the old rules and once teams cottoned on to shutting down our key two pointer kickers we looked a bit short of ideas with more various strong individual performances keeping us in games. I think we need to add more real pace to the team sacrificing some of the size/power and need a dedicated play maker at centre forward. Thompson or Finnerty for example could be options as play makers. We have a good few options in terms of pace at the back with Daniel Flaherty and C Sweeney two immediate challengers but I think we need to find one or two more natural forwards with real pace to challenge the existing options. Obviously there is recency bias but I think Kerry look well ahead of the pack at the minute but we are right in the mix with Donegal/Armagh/Tyrone/Dublin etc as challengers.

It is easy to be wise after the event but Donegal look to have got it wrong against Kerry in terms of match ups, Paudi Clifford was roaming around with over 70 possessions and no one seems to be on him for the full game. They also were trying to hit Michael Murphy for kickouts in the first half when he was clearly getting crowded out and under pressure(did the same against Tyrone). O Connor was an obvious Kerry target for kickouts but they let him win 4/5 before they sorted that out. When McGee came on it gave them a foothold on kick outs and they started a comeback from there. To be fair it is probably case of too many fires to put out but I was surprised they didn't seem to have various plans for what seemed to be likely scenarios. Easy to talk as they say. I think Donegal will be right back in the mix next year
