Galway emerged as surprise All Ireland finalists in two strange years.
Would agree though that Galway didn't bottle it, they were just short on quality to win an All Ireland."
Sure the one they should have been winning Dublin weren't even in the final.

No-one knows if we would have won in another era. We lost finals against lesser teams than that Dublin team. Hindsight analysis can only improve us if we learn from past mistakes and improve. We still can't close out tight games. The challenge for new management team.

The at least we are not as bad as Mayo is a very poor benchmark of where we stand. Next year it will be a quarter century since we last brought Sam west so people under 30 can't even remember that. It's time for us to look inward, stop comparing ourselves to the neighbours and start making new history.

Mayo had got to finals in a few 'strange' years as you call them against Donegal and Tyrone and didn't get the job done either.
As a very loyal Donegal supporter I hope you got a ticket for today. Your passion for your 'home' county has shone through in your posts in the Galway thread.

I don't care which county wins at this stage but a Connacht all Ireland is badly needed and can only benefit the surrounding counties. Look at what its done for Ulster. It's created ravenous competition and winning mentality that's filtered down to Monaghan.

How was 2012 a strange year? By that logic one could say 1998 was a strange year with Kildare in a final.
