Fair play to you for going all the way to Wexford for the game.

Katser, alas, was it to Cusack Park that you went? It'd save you loads on gas, anyway. At least when you got home, you could still say, "I followed the maroon and white again today. Again today, not as good as I'd expected."

And sure, no one would be any the wiser.

Is that why you're so well up on the Davy Glennon incident (if there was even one)? Hah?

I'll consider your suggestion, poolsturgeon, and spend some time to reflect. I do realize that certain of my comments might be hard for some Galway fans to stomach. I only always try to speak objectively, though.

I don't think that I ever bothered with the Galway hurling forum until all traffic was put onto the same road. When it was county to county forums, I'd have to hit county and visit the forum. I used to enjoy the Kerry forum; great comment and interaction. That's dead now.

So, when a poster comes on now, all these threads are there…as a temptation to hit the link and comment. And as the great writer Oscar Wilde said, "The best way to resist temptation, is to give in to it."

I've also noticed that the traffic on the Limerick Thread has almost disappeared compared to what it was 4-5 years ago. A few old reliables still comment, but when did we last hear some Limk person comment about Limerick football? And my point certainly isn't that football is successful in Limerick. It is that the county has become successful, and those small issues/uncertainties that fans had before are now gone, so they no longer deserve any comment.

It's no accident, I believe, that there's never been a healthy, or even any, Tipp, Cork or KK discussion forum on here. Even the Dubs rarely used their forum. Why? They feel confident enough in their county's respective success, that little small issues don't really bother them. Small things trouble small minds.

Reflect on it, as I take a break from this forum, but which two counties' hurling threads are constantly up at the top of the list when you log in to HS? And ask yourselves why.

Was a bit of an ordeal with 4 small kids but well worth the trip.

Based on your stated theory there that 'small things trouble small minds', would it be fair to assume that you yourself are of miniscule mind, given the volume of posts and and range of threads that seem to trouble you.

Sound Baire. We might clash again sometime.

Sound Baire. We might clash again sometime, and indeed there are times when I too just should sit back and enjoy long sought successes and not react as much.

Because we use Hoganstand while other fans use other forums that fortunately for them you haven't found.

All the previews I've read or heard are saying Davy will be missing out on playing against his brother as Ronan is injured. Are you sure what's the score are correct Waveitwide?

Davy Glennon is named to start today vs Galway.
Cormac Boyle was the one who got the red card last week against Kilkenny, and it was a second yellow so he is available too.

Replying To gilly1910:  "Not a bit, maybe if we did jealousy/envy/hurt more in Galway, we might not be still stuck on a miserable 5 All Irelands in 138 years. As Joe Connolly famously said after 2017 and I quote "We haven't been ambitious enough, we haven't been hungry enough in Galway. We're a rich county, there's plenty of employment in Galway, there's two third-level institutions.
We have superb structures in clubs. We have a quarter of a million of a population. We shouldn't be picking up All-Ireland's every 30 years, and the reason we haven't is that it's our own fault".
So no I don't have an inferiority complex, I just happen to admire what Limerick have done since 2018, and yes I am jealous of their success, as I would have seen Limerick as a somewhat similar county to us. In your eyes my admiration/envy of Limerick makes me weak, however your attitude is systematic of everything that is wrong with Galway hurling, and which is why you and your ilk see the odd All Ireland success every 30 years or so as a success."
I don't agree that Galway are the only county underperforming historically in senior hurling. You mention Limerick being of a "similar county to us". They had 2 very big famines from 1940 to 1973 and again from 1973 to 2018 and they lost plenty of finals in between 73 and 18 also plus they had very little to fall back on barring some underage titles here and there during that time whereas Galway had at least the footballers in the late 90's / early 00's, numerous underage titles, numerous senior club AI's in both codes as well as camogie and ladies football success. Galway are the only county to bring back at least one AI most years across the Shannon compared to other Connacht counties including Mayo who also have a fairly large population concentrating mainly on football like KK do in hurling.

Ourselves, Clare, Waterford, Dublin, Offaly, Kerry and Laois would also be counties like yourselves and Limerick that have won an AI hurling title but could be said to have underperformed historically when compared to the big 3. I don't really get lads on forums squabbling over who got the most crumbs off the table when the reality is we are all f##king starving. Fair play to Limerick for getting fed. Hopefully it will be the turn of some of the rest of us soon.

Galway's population is nearly twice that of Mayo.

Mayo have a population of 130,000 and are the third largest county in ireland. They also mainly concentrate on one sport i.e. gaelic football yet they have failed to win a senior AI title since 1951 and have only won 3 in total plus only a couple of underage titles so when people talk about "famines" and "underperforming" that to me would be considered the definition of both!

Well Tommy, we (Limerick) play in a province where no less that 75 All Ireland Senior Hurling Titles have found repose. Every single provincial title is hard won and in '96 we beat Cork and Tipp, but on the way we also had to dethrone the All Ireland Champions. Back in '55 Clare Cork and Tipp but our boys beat them in the Munster Final. We never had the luxury of going straight through to an All Ireland Semi Final without a game and we have always drawn from a Hurling population about half that of Galway and about one fifth that of Cork. You mention that Galway have good success in Football and I concede that but significantly you have always had very few dual players. In my my lifetime Mick Tynan , Bernie Hartigan, Pat Murphy Eamon Cregan, Danny Fitzgerald, Stephen Lucey, Bryan Guiry, Connor Fitzgerald and James Ryan, among others, were all dual players. In 2004 we narrowly lost to Cork, the eventual Champions, when we had six potential panelists unavailable, due to declaring for Football. The same years we drew with In Kerry in the Munster Football Final and lost narrowly in the replay. Kerry wiped the floor with every team they played that season including Cork and Dublin. We struggle at Football in a province that if I count right has won 21 All Senior Titles since 1968. By contrast your province has won two. Maybe it is just easier to win provincial titles and thus keep interest in the game in Connacht. There is also \another Elephant in the room.
When the B and I lions toured about fifteen years back there was five Limerick men on the panel of 42. The team was drawn from a catchment area of seventy Million People and Limerick has a population of 190,000. You could say we were slightly over represented on that team.
All in all I am content with our lot in hurling as our county has produced three great hurling teams (a great Hurling team wins more than one All Ireland Title).
Having said all that I admire hurling men every where and I absolutely we any one of the teams outside the Big Three win out.

Has Land size of a county much to do with it. Dublin is the second smallest county in Ireland. Louth is the smallest but it has over 100,000 people. Where I now live, Carlow, is the third smallest but it has only about 56,000 of a population and competes in both codes. I think have a huge sparsely populated county can actually be more of a hindrance than anything
