Remember up to a certain decade the Irish Times never printed GAA results. We have come a long long way from that, but not far enough. Rugby has not made much inroads at grassroots in Dublin, there are no huge sprouting of clubs. In fact what Dublin GAA did was revolutionise the grassroots, Rugby and Soccer followed. GAA is well watched, well supported, great participation. If you walk around Na Fianna you will see many a well known personality with their kids playing, Paul Reynolds, Dermot Bannon, Paschal O'Donaghue, Kieran Cuddihy a decade ago their kids would be playing Rugby/Hockey, they well still do, but they are in Na Fianna. So the profile of GAA is totally transformed in Dublin. One of the best hurling clubs in Dublin is in Rugby Heartland - Cuala. Times have changed but haven't changed enough."
I think the broader GAA community would be better off following the Dublin template rather than complaining about their success. If money and resources is part of the success template the GAA leaderships needs to develop an earnings system that will equally benefit all. I suspect that there are other factors as well as money in the equation.

Watching from a distance but speaking to people from Dublin GAA clubs and media commentary it is amazing that GAA has broken into so many areas of Dublin but this is testament to the enormous work put in by so many club volunteers.
They really have set a blueprint for the rest of the country into how the games can be developed through massive participation levels and excellent coaching.
This did not happen by chance.
Clubs recruit from a very early age and are extremely proactive in recruitment. The rest of the country waits fir the child to come to the club while the club goes directly to the child and their family in Dublin.
Some years ago, other sports were in the process of dramatically increasing their numbers in the capital with GAA lagging far behind. That process has changed around.
GAA is very fashionable in Dublin !

Careful now, some on here will get upset if try to suggest there are other factors than money.

I see a clever little gesture from the De Lasalle club. Sounds small but smart. When a new baby is born the provide baby clothes with their colours.

Yes, just build over 30 Croke Park replicas and find 50 million people somewhere, balance things out a bit. Great idea.

I think his point is that on top of their funding, Dublin GAA and their clubs are very well run and professionally organised unlike some of the other county boards out there who if half the stories I hear are to be believed, I wouldnt put in charge of a chicken coop.
Would a change of management at these boards redress the balance? Perhaps not but it would be a very constructive start.

Replying To brisbane:  "1,200 supporters will be permitted into the RDS on Friday, 11 June for the Leinster Rugby RAINBOW CUP game against Dragons.

The GAA confirmed that 100 spectators will be permitted to attend inter-county games in the 26 counties from Monday, 7 June.

Can someone explain why a meaningless rugby game can have 1,200 people but important GAA games just 100 people?"
Obviously someone somewhere thinks that the virus spreads less easily among the rugby folk- has it anything to do with the shape of the ball. Maybe there are some scientists in one of the 'many groups' informing our government who have the stats/theory to back this up. Is there something very special about the airflow around a game in the RDS- it may have something to do with all the 'hot air' floating around? I won't go into all the sources of air at this stage! Maybe the virus is more readily spread in the bigger GAA pitches.

Or its a one off for the rugby and is the only trial game in July for rugby with those crowds. next rugby games with crowds in attendance will be in august when more people will be allowed attend games
rugby is near end of its season so very different to GAA which has a lot more teams still playing games right now.

You mentioned Kilkenny and then came to an abrupt halt, I assumed you were talking about football when you referred to Dublin, I'm sure you have noticed things have changed considerably in the last 20 years, never mind 70 !

Money well spent too. The sport is thriving despite all the competition in the capital thankfully :)

Pity there's no (Northern Ireland) option for you.

Time you lot all caught up, before you are all left behind, I think at this stage the world is getting fed up never mind the EU with the brats who never left the cot.

Is there no Friday in Northern Ireland or are you all just as cranky every day of the week ? At least you boys have a few teams you can follow at the Euros, we don't, so be happy.
