Whatever about Brolly, I thought Rochford was really poor today and added nothing to the discussion. If they just left an empty seat there it wouldnt have made a difference.

True the whole thing was as dull as dishwater, Stephen is too reserved for that punditry lark, think they should leave Brolly Spillane and O'Rourke at it, last of the summer wine, Nory Batty as mc.

Whelan offers nothing but he's safe because he's from Dublin. Rochford was poor but probably nervous. One day some pundit will be brave enough to mention Dublin's negative style of football

Rochford will be knee deep in maroon and white next year doubt he'll have time for this TV craic when they're All Ireland's to be won.

Given the enormity of Dublin's achievement I personally felt Spillane could have been a bit more gracious - there is zero comparison with old Gods time when Kerry to be fair were The most professionally prepared team and today when most teams are better trained and organised. Look at some of the GAA gold catch and kick stuff ... Bainisteoir (National) - Posts: 553 - 15/09/2019 00:41:42 2235427 Link 0 |
Another WUM account. I'll choose Leitrim as my county because it's small and everyone likes Leitrim. Legend.

Pat's analysis is no different than Brolly's - very poor-both of them could do with a trip to spec savers. I remember his slogan 'puke football'. In the match today there were periods when back passing went on for 1 minute plus and as Kerry were involved, the match was considered a classic by him. Match analysis is carried out by individuals and their analysis is no better than you would get in the average pub around the country- the analysis is a game in itself and RTE plays it own game.

Sunday game football pundits in general are boring but Brolly isn't the solution either. Sky have better pundits like Canavan. Killarney.87 (Tipperary) - Posts: 2513 - 15/09/2019 08:12:13 2235454 Link 1 |
It was poor football, lots of basic errors, lots of backpassing my Dublin. Wasn't a patch on the first game. Bit much with the name calling

I have to say that it was very easy watching and listening to the pundits yesterday evening. I was irritated before the All Ireland final started the first day by just listening to Brolly telling Pat Spillane to stop patting him. The stuff of a 2 year old.. It was much better without him. With Conor Mc Manus and Sean Cavanagh Ulster will be well represented without Joe. border Gael (Monaghan) - Posts: 904 - 15/09/2019 10:13:23 2235479 Link 0 |
have to say i see the whole punditry panel thing on the sunday game going the same way as the soccer did. Giles, Dunphy and liam brady all got rid of and they were v entertaining to watch. im never going to watch the soccer panel again, its bland and boring. Brolly and Spillane love them or hate them are in this mold who shoot from the hip and say what they feel. RTE has gone all into this pc stuff preddan (Kildare) - Posts: 747 - 15/09/2019 11:02:04 2235502 Link 3 |
Sean Cavanagh likes talking about himself and as an analyst I would give him 4/10 on a good day. Why did no analyst pick up the 9/10 steps for the goal which because of the speed could not be seen by the Ref. I though Galvin's description of the incident of the event was very good; 'a hound after a hare with the hare always going to win' a straight run.

Yes. The game was a mix of approaches. Some direct football with well-worked and nicely taken scores mixed with comedy defending (guys running through to score, unmarked) mixed with with blanket defending and sideways handpassing. I have no problems with this whatsoever, a team that does nothing but 100% route one football is a dumb and easy-to-read team which will lose; from Ajax in the 70s onwards, any good team will mix it up as necessary. What is slightly wearying is how (for instance) Kerry and Tyrone play a similar game (they even score similar amounts), yet Kerry and Dublin are held up as examples of the saviours of football while the likes of Tyrone and other Ulster teams are, as we all know, purveyors of anti-football and the ruination of the game etc. At heart, a lot of GAA high-profile pundits are small-minded gossips. It's motivational though, I for one hope they keep it up : )

Brolly is now promoting attending HQ in altered states. This is not what the GAA is about. suckvalleypaddy (Galway) - Posts: 1706 - 15/09/2019 12:13:22 2235540 Link 0 |
Why are the GAA selling alcohol in the Stadium then if that's not what they are about ?

Joanne looked much more relaxed without having to contend with "Hold on, hold on let me finish" from someone who has already dominated 80% of the discussion. She seems to have a good grasp and feel for the GAA compared to say Rachel on Sky Sports. Curlew66 (Roscommon) - Posts: 576 - 15/09/2019 13:53:17 2235579 Link 0 |
I don't like Leitrim. They have notions. And think Carrick is better for a stag than Galway.
