I k ow that but it may surprise many that the biggest club in mayo, Castlebar Mitchell's is probably the worst supported club..soccer and rugby in the town. Only recently has Westport upped their game in the GAA which is great to see. Rugby big in Ballina too and basketball so the theory that it's only Gaelic Football is mistaken although football is king there are only 130,000 living in the county...I think we 16th on the most populous counties in Ireland

1 Mayo team in AIL ( will play in same division next year as the two Galway teams, who have a good crop of Mayo players also) considering Galway has twice the population of Mayo this is a silly argument. 0 in the LOI ( but have a good spread across Galway United and Sligo rovers). Yet people from Galway aren't allowed to mention Mayo on this thread!? Strange that. It's a shame the basketball scene is so strong in Ballina and of course the soccer has always been so strong in the city. Of course you can mention Mayo, and vice versa. We all need to admit our demons though. Mayo should have brought an All-Ireland at this stage, didn't, and deserve some scorn, and Galway are still struggling to to become a respected force in today's modern game. Winning a couple connacht titles and then falling away so meekley at the business end of the championship would not go down so well in Mayo , and it shouldn't in Galway either , but you and the fans don't seem too bothered by it pointing towards a few connacht titles as some sort of progress. Make no mistake if Walsh doesn't change his methods this year, or at least be competitive outside of connacht , id expect your county board to sack him . Might not be the worst thing for this Galway team to go the qualifier route and get some of there injured players back and have a proper go at the super 8s again this year. Don't think they'll be much between Mayo and Roscommon next weekend. Could have , should have , would have. I actually didn't mention anything about Galway winning Connacht anywhere there? Not getting into the super 8s last year couldn't have gone down well in Mayo last summer so?? I think KW has done a good job, despite some mistakes, but that is human. I believe his term is up after the championship so no need to "sack" him, but if he does well this year and if he wants an extension he deserves one.

You never miss a chance to have a dig at Galway. Never mind Walsh's prospects of keeping his job. How long will Horan last if he brings ye to Croke Park and fails like he did first time round?

In fairness to Horan he has already won a National title and he's building a team for the future not a quick turnaround to win an all Ireland. He signed a 4 year deal it's all about progress and based of last year mayo have already had a better season. Galway will come good and won't be easy to shake off come the business end of the season I'd expect to see them in the semi finals. Based of current form I can't see much from Sligo tomorrow but who knows they are capable of putting in a big performance. Junior team but it's apples and oranges if your comparing a big town like Galway to a small town like Ballina.

Revert back to the support the Hurlers get, embarrassing for the so called best Gaa support in the country. A lot of bandwagon supporters. Average attendance 35, I notice on the blog the hurlers get a token report and always terrible to see no comments at all, and then you may get a couple of hundred on the football. In fairness we can't talk about bandwagon supporters, only 6000 showed up to a home championship game last weekend in salthill. Come aug ever man woman and child will be looking for a ticket. I'm also nearly sure there is only 5/6 clubs max in Mayo who play hurling compared to 80 in Galway. If you are going to have a go at only 250 showing upto a mayo hurling game then your argument is stupid cause on a club to supporter ratio basis they are better supported than what we got for our first home championship game. 7 thousand official v Carlow and we know the way they calculate the attendance. There were more there, and no disrespect but it was Carlow. Your speaking like a Mayo man giving excuses about Mayo hurling, sure there is only 5 clubs, but Why? Hurling should be promoted more in big towns like Castlebar Ballina, Westport. The money Mayo Gaa are making is astronomical, How much been spent to promote Hurling in that great Gaa county? The supporters should get behind the senior hurlers not offering excuses like you are..
