The players would like a Connacht medal, you seem out of touch. Also, Galway/Mayo are even in Nestor Cup wins and long may the rivalry continue. This is why provinces matter. Potentially, June 16 will change that.

Can Hoganstand tells us why they had article up that TG4 would show the New York v Mayo live only to delete it later? BTW this is the weakest New York team for the best part of a decade and they have very little preparation done for this championship game compared to recent years. With that in mind Mayo should win by a cricket score without getting out of 2nd gear.

Only joking Yew... just couldn't resist the 10 friends thing! Enjoy the trip... amazing to see so many going over... it's a testament to the dedication of the supporters and the charisma of the side. Let's hope for a result, no injuries and the safe return of the approx 2%+ of the overall Mayo population going over (that's about the same percentage of the Dublin population likely to attend a Leinster championship match in deepest Croker!).

They often say the journey is better than the destination...while we all crave that all Ireland...it's away trips like this and all those trips to Croke Park and all around Ireland that make memories of a lifetime with good friends and sure people can mock us all they want but we've had and will have great times...up Mayo !

Really. I'd say the players on both sides are more interested in SAM. Another Nestor cup followed by another collapse against Dublin isn't much good to Galway. Mayo players are all about the All Ireland, a Connacht medal won't even be worth opening a bottle of blue nun to celebrate. Your living in a world where provincial medals mean something to Div 1 teams. Kerry, Dublin, Mayo, Galway, Tyrone and Monaghan would only see provincial championships as a warm up competition. Winning a provincial medal without making an All Ireland final would be a disappointment to those players tirawleybaron (Mayo) - Posts: 1375 - 01/05/2019 22:42:27 2181356 Link 0 |
they would be more interested in Sam obviously, still this is a big Connacht c'ship

They're not mutually exclusive. He's not saying winning a Connacht title at the expense of getting to an All Ireland final. In fact winning the former improves your chances of achieving the latter. It means something, not as much as an All Ireland obviously, but you can be sure if Galway and Mayo play in this year's Connacht final, they'll both be seriously wanting to put down a marker. Absolutely. The players in every game will be going hard as they can to win. Some players may have programmes that peak later in the summer but on any given day they will be going as hard as they can.

Wow is all I can say about nyc so far....been here many times but the atmosphere here this week, Mayo colors all over the city...the GAA is and should be about so much more than the winners or super 8s etc...we are a cultural organization as much as a sporting or winning one... yew_tree (Mayo) - Posts: 11557 - 03/05/2019 02:03:33 2181562 Link 2 |
