LOL. Well yes, it would be a first Ulster senior championship win in 22 years actually but seeing as you've listed out every form of Mickey mouse trophy galway have won in recent years, I should add that Cavan have won 4 Ulster u21 titles and an Ulster minor title this decade.

Yet nobody in the west talks about Mayos 5 in a row team that terrorised connacht teams at their will., That feat was undermined and swept under the carpet because they didn't land sam. Today was a reality check for Galway who in general have been out in the footballing wilderness since the 90s and pointing towards a few recent duels won against rivals doesn't make the garden all rosy. Up to Roscommon to push on now. A relatively young squad there. Have the ability and skill to be there for a long time to come. Crossing the Rubicon into All Ireland semi final territory should be the next aim. Won't be easy but could be possible in the next few years. I'm of the opinion that Connacht football ain't too bad with not much between Ros, Mayo and Galway on any given day. Put simply Ros and Galway need to be aspiring to a level that we can contest Dublin like Mayo have tested them in recent years. We are some way off this at present but that's the next logical step. moros (Roscommon) - Posts: 1139 - 16/06/2019 22:47:15 2196116 Link 3 |
You wouldn't get that in Leinster - you lot have been spoiled with the quality of football in your province over recent years.

Well done Roscommon, woke up at half time and were the hungrier team, keep it up now in the super 8's, Tirchonaill1 (Donegal) - Posts: 3183 - 16/06/2019 23:00:08 2196126 Link 0 |
A well deserved win for Roscommon today with every player showing a tremendous will to win and no shortage of skill, despite the awful conditions (Salthill always provides awful conditions). However, I think posters are being very hard on Galway and I would fully expect them to make the Super 8s. neverright (Roscommon) - Posts: 1648 - 16/06/2019 23:02:55 2196128 Link 1 |
Well done to Roscommon the best team 1st half apart from the last ten minutes of it and it was mostly one way traffic 2nd half as Roscommon outscored Galway 1-8 to 0-2. Galway for whatever reason were not able to lift for this years Connacht championship, struggled for long stages v London and while they best Sligo by 13 points it was a very flattering scoreline as they got 2 goals in a minute midway through the 2nd half and 1-2 during injury time that glossed the scoreline for Galway. I said after that match if Galway don't improve they would not be winning the final and that's how it turned out. Gaa_lover (USA) - Posts: 3609 - 17/06/2019 00:44:10 2196159 Link 2 |
Not to dance on anyones grave on a Monday but as Connacht finals go, that's a very low ebb for Galway. As bad a 35 minutes of football as you have seen from a team. The question is where to from here. One poster mentioned that it is inevitable that Galway are beaten ad Walsh goes - is it as simple as that? Although, as far as I know there is the possibility of drawing Mayo in the last round of the Qualifiers - if anything can reignite the season it would be a cut at your neighbours! people are giving out about Walsh but what would Galway concede if they didn't park the bus. 1-13 conceded yesterday with a heap of lads back that defence would probably ship 3 or 4 goals if they played open centerfield (Mayo) - Posts: 360 - 17/06/2019 08:07:21 2196183 Link 1 |
If Galway meet Monaghan, Mayo or Tyrone in the qualifiers they will go out. No fight in that team, a few nice footballers, some very skillful lads, but they didn't have the answers when it was put up to them. On yesterday's performance, it's baffling that Ian Burke is an all-star. From the first 10 seconds, he looked like he didn't want to be there. Pulled out of so many 50/50 balls. Roscommon do deserve huge credit - from 10-5 down, they came out with purpose in the 2nd half and were direct. They were deserved victors and hopefully Cavan take some inspiration from yesterday. The unfortunate thing on that front is that Donegal are miles better than Galway. cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 5246 - 17/06/2019 08:30:06 2196189 Link 3 |
On the contrary, I believe it instills a lack of personal responsibility in the players and leads to players not doing their most basic job, such as tackling. Roscommon waltzed through a number of so-called tackles yesterday. On the rare occasions where we have played more expansive football in the last couple of years such as the Newbridge Super 8 game last year, we've hardly given up any goal chances. The best way to nullify an opponent is to put them on the back foot. WanPintWin (Galway) - Posts: 2318 - 17/06/2019 09:22:44 2196227 Link 0 |
Its belief mate Bring the crowd to dublin and put in a performance and anything can happen. BeJasus (UK) - Posts: 383 - 17/06/2019 12:04:28 2196367 Link 0 |
Fair play to Roscommon. Showed a lot of guts and skill in the 2nd half to get back into it. Seem to have a lot more power all around the field than they had last year. tirawleybaron (Mayo) - Posts: 1382 - 17/06/2019 14:27:17 2196529 Link 0 |
True " No fight in that team" I think its just the galway dna much like the hurlers no fight the just want to play nice and not get hit "Ian Burke is an all-star. From the first 10 seconds, he looked like he didn't want to be there. What can kevin walsh really do about that other then try find new players brisbane (Galway) - Posts: 675 - 17/06/2019 16:05:27 2196611 Link 0 |
Massive disappointment again by this Galway team, no wonder the Rossies outnumbered us at the match, awful display again. Monaghan game last year was bad, but to follow it up with y'day's display is terrible. Bound to be fellas asking why they didn't get a run or only a couple of minutes, some lads seem intent on making a name for themselves rather than being team players, brillant team spirit by Roscommon despite playing against the breeze & 5 points down. Anthony Cunningham's tactics & sideline management were spot on. moc.dna (Galway) - Posts: 1212 - 17/06/2019 16:57:55 2196649 Link 0 |
Agree with that, although what's ironic is that we did come back from behind to win last year's Connacht Final in Hyde Park, after a woeful first half, outscoring them by 11 points to 1-1 in the second. Shane Walsh was excellent in that game. Sunday's second half was as bad I've seen. The so-called system is not getting the best out of our players. This slow build-up and constant turning back to recycle possession is very easy to defend against. Fair play to the Rossies who took us on and moved the ball quickly when they needed to. You're some wum. If you'd watched our hurlers for any of the last 3 years, you'd see they're well able to give and take hits and haven't shirked any battles. They certainly haven't lacked courage. The KK from 2 weeks ago, even showed that. We simply weren't good enough this year. The footballers are a different story and the whole setup needs to change. We've had far too many of those non-performances. WanPintWin (Galway) - Posts: 2318 - 18/06/2019 16:28:06 2197171 Link 2 |
Miles better? Being honest very knee jerk. Donegal may have a better manager tactically but Galway very definitely are their equal in terms of quality. While it us unlikely KW will change tack and if a new manager is on the horizon at season end you will see a very different Galway in 2020.

Ah come on. No football enthusiast can deny we were very poor 2nd half and that there are serious mgt issues but to accuse players of trying to make names for themselves is scandalous. These guys train so hard and get that abuse. You really need to have a look at yourself. And then we had pre match a few posters from other counties trying to convince us Comer and Conroy would be on the bench. No clue at all of the injury situation. Just taking cheap shots. Anyway it will be some other county getting the heat next weekend as remember what comes round goes round.
