Fact 1 : Mayo have lost the last 2 All-irelands to Dublin by a single point, and probably should have at least won one of them. SAM1998 (Galway) - Posts: 18 - 09/08/2018 19:58:15 2131325 Link 0 |

Would be doing well to get 65k. Obviously Dublin will have the majority and should be a decent Royal support for the minor. For us hard to know as the hurling has hoovered up most of the choice fans. I.e those choosing one or the other. Most recognise we have made progress even with the no show last Sat in Salthill.

Ah now in fairness, Mayo were hard done by in those All Ireland finals and the world knows that Mayo either under estimated Galway, or else deserved to win or else were looking further ahead in the championship. Mayo still waiting to get a run at us this year in Croke Park sure!

Looking forward to see what Dublin and Galway do at the parade. TheUsername (Dublin) - Posts: 4516 - 10/08/2018 09:39:03 2131444 Link 3 |
Nope we already had the shock of the century in 2014 , love your confidence though!

We travel with hope tomorrow which is more than most teams do when facing the dubs. We would have bitten someone's hand off at the start of the year for an AI semi final and a league final spot so it has been a successful year for us. but I have a feeling in my belly that we can do it tomorrow . That just might be the dodgy chicken I had last night galwayfball (Galway) - Posts: 1704 - 10/08/2018 11:42:04 2131495 Link 1 |
Fact 2 : Galway have beaten this same Mayo team in the championship for the last 3 years Hardly the "same Mayo team" given that Kerry beat Galway pulling up and Mayo made fairly short work of the same Kerry team in the next round. I know the A beat B and B beat C logic doesn't hold much water but its a fairly commonly held opinion that the Mayo team in September is a much more difficult proposition than the team that plays in early June. I don't understand the logic of your argument. Kurt_Angle (Dublin) - Posts: 567 - 10/08/2018 12:00:11 2131503 Link 0 |
We're all allowed to dream, I suppose ;)

And everyone knows that if it were Galway in those finals against the Dubs they would have won two or three of them. What with having all those scoring forwards and knowing how to win All Irelands and that. If you manage to beat the Dubs on Saturday I will salute you and acknowledge you as a good team who did what we were unable to do. Until then you are a reasonable team who have won nothing, with a lot to prove, and in no position to laugh at anyone else!

We are are County of critics unfortunately. The hurlers enjoy great support now, but I was in Thurles in 2014 with only 500 Galway fans max. Galway CB sent back a number of nice Cusack stand tickets this week. We only seem to travel when we think we've a good chance of winning. I wish on that end we were more like Mayo I.T.O unconditional support. Still, thats their problem, as they'll miss Galway's best victory since 2001. galwaydublin (Galway) - Posts: 226 - 10/08/2018 12:46:52 2131515 Link 0 |

I do think a Galway win tomorrow would be an even bigger shock than that. Donegal in 2014 were All-Ireland champions from only 2 years previously so had the known pedigree. They also played a Dublin team who hadn't gone back-to-back yet. We'll be playing a team that's just completed 3-in-a-row. It's incredible to think that it's our first championship meeting in such a long time. Even taking into account our poor form in the latter stages over the last 15 years, we're still talking about 35 years and that infamous final since we last met. that famous final, you mean...

Of course. ;) I'm sure they'll all be on their best behaviour tomorrow. WanPintWin (Galway) - Posts: 2318 - 10/08/2018 14:01:16 2131537 Link 0 |
