That's fair enough but Galway aren't under any pressure going into this game, nobody's is expecting them to win, they have nothing to loose because they still have had a very good year and they are not going for 4 in a row. I think it's a perfect position for Galway to be in. There are a few sensitive lads on the Dubs them that can be easily upset if things don't go their way and prone to the red card!! I don't think Galway would have to even play outstanding, maybe fustrate the Dubs... mess with their heads and wait for a reaction, ie lashing out.. O' Gara?

Well the great tradition of Galway football is under severe threat if hoping that an opponent will lash out to fouling defenders, your full back line is under scrutiny now as seen with all the deserving cards they picked up the last day. jonno (Kildare) - Posts: 261 - 09/08/2018 13:19:22 2131206 Link 0 |
Funny you should say that i think Galway completely lost the head in the last quarter of the league final. I like Galway a lot and i think the game will be a tight physical contest, psychologically though a critique i would have of Galway is slotting under pressure and shot selection or broadly the amount of wides they hit in possession or when they have momentum. Its semi final time, every single shot now needs to be going over, that or very close t o it is the standard and both teams will live and die by decisions, whether its shot selection or giving away frees. The Dublin team actually play games 14 Vs15 and 13 Vs 15 in training, so every player knows what to do in the event of of a red card or so the legend goes. "I personally believe the league games will have absolutely no bearing and arent actually a barometer of where the teams are now or where back then. " Really.. ? Is it not funny though that the 4 teams in the Semi Final's are the same who topped division 1 in the league ? Allianz FL1 2018 P W D L Dif Pts Galway 7 6 1 0 23 13 Dublin 7 5 1 1 32 11 Monaghan 7 5 0 2 6 10 Tyrone 7 4 0 3 15 8 I think Dublin are more beatable this year.. They are in line now for 4 in a row but Mayo really left the All Ireland behind them last year after Vaughan getting sent off. For once, They were the better team on the day and it will haunt them for a long time. Dublin will probably do 4 in a row but I don't think they'll do 5... I hope so anyway :) take that as a compliment.. Don't get me wrong, Dublin are a fantastic team and if they do 5 in a row, they will be immortal..! I don't think they will beat Galway by more than 3 or 4 points though. The gap is not that great as Tyrone showed in Omagh. As for Monaghan v Tyrone, everyone is writing us off as usual, which is great.! I find it weird, in 2013 and 2015 playing Tyrone, there was a big fear factor playing Tyrone in Croke Park in a quarter final, even after getting an Ulster title, and a feeling too that we were content with our Ulster title. The feeling this year seems a lot different now.. the Monaghan support is more vocal and there is a huge determination now to get to a Final.. the nervous excitement is building already. I think the Super 8's and playing teams outside of Ulster has really brought us on. Here's hoping our minors win on Sunday too, for a county like Monaghan to even have one of those teams in an All-Ireland final will be some achievement. HON THE FARNEY..!!! Didn't think the league form would have anything to do with Championship, but now that you brought it up... the Dubs had players sent off in both league matches against Galway all because of been sensitive and easily upset when things don't go their way..when a team takes the fight to them and not let team dictate the tempo or be in control of the match. Discipline has always been the Dubs weakness

Maybe your right, you just might have cracked the Dublin Code. I dont know Ive been thinking during the week that Galway have big Mayo sized shoes to fill, can Galway match the great Mayo team of the last few years for "bringing the fight" or "putting it up to the Dubs" and more? Its an interesting one, Mayo are a proven Championship team and seasoned at this stage of the Championship, its a while since Galway have been this deep in the championship or part of the "occasion", i see an awful lot of "its been a great year for Galway anyway" comments, what thats means is subjective i suppose. Like you i think the game will be a tight one. TheUsername (Dublin) - Posts: 4516 - 09/08/2018 15:47:39 2131261 Link 2 |
Yeah. Can see how its been a huge disadvantage to them over the past 7 years. There's always some bright-spark on here thinks that 'taking the fight' to Dublin might be the key to knocking them off their perch. Wonder will Walsh think of that? keep her lit. neither of those players could be described as prone to losing their rag in reaction to provocation

Yet it doesn't generally seem to cost them too much, they didn't look any weaker more or less cruising to a win in the league final with 14 men.

Well that Mayo team blew it in both years and only for self destruction and a couple of bad decisions they would have won those All Irelands, but that's in the past now. We will have to wait and see how Saturdays game starts to unfold!

How many times has Cooper been sent off? Small too, besides the Leinster final, I wouldn't be describing his red card as being because he was wound up or losing the head like some here claim lads are. I think Galway need a lot more than just hoping to get Dublin lads sent off.

Dublin will have this handy enough 7 or 8 points pulling up, also would love Monaghan to make the final, I think Tyrone are boring to watch I think Monaghan would give us a better game in the final and provide for a better spectacle! I think that may be wishful thinking on your part but at the same time points to a weakness in Galway's tactics if they couldn't beat Dublin home or away and they with an extra man. If memory serves Comer should not have been on the pitch at the final whistle in Croke Park as he deliberately hand tripped Cooper and this was a text book black card. Anyway, all in the past. I think Galway would rather be coming into this game with a win under their belt rather than a mauling at the hands of Monaghan. I wouldn't underestimate the psychological impact of that beating. Having said that, Galway have a system and forwards to cause Dublin problems. Dublin need to starve Comer of posession. Fitzy did a good job on him the last day in the second half where Cooper and Philly had struggled. I expect Dublin to come out firing on all cylinders but a close enough game if we struggle to drill through the iron curtain. Possibly Dubs by 3 to 4 points. Galways slow transition may hurt them.

Discipline has always been the Dubs weakness", It is ? jasus that's what was missing from 1996- 2010 so ! This discipline weakness thing you speak off , has served us well 5 All Irelands in 7 years . superbluedub (Dublin) - Posts: 2842 - 09/08/2018 18:16:26 2131300 Link 0 |
No harm in thinking.

We're going to be ambushed, have our heads messed with, wound up and have players sent off.....what else is missing?

I think what you are saying in reality is that Monaghan would be an easier game to annex the 4 in a row. You might not admit that fair enough but that would be my interpretation. An naturally it is more difficult to like potential opposition who are likely to ask you more questions.
