A draw is the right result for everyone really. TheUsername (Dublin) - Posts: 4501 - 31/07/2018 10:11:38 2127762 Link 1 |
I see Kevin Walsh is priming the pump already by crying over the fouls on Comer. It's the defenders who need protection from his favourite trick of grabbing an arm and falling down to try and get a free or peno. That crack is one degree lower than a plain old dive. Galway are a particularly cynical nasty team - and I say that from a county who plays in Ulster! In eight league matches, Tyrone's Darren McCurry, Monaghan's Fintan Kelly, Mayo's Cillian and Diarmuid O'Connor and Dublin's Eoghan O'Gara and Niall Scully have been red-carded against them while two members of opposing management teams, Tony McEntee and Jason Sherlock, have been hit with eight-week suspensions for altercations on Galway's watch. In three of their five championship games so far, Mayo's Diarmuid O'Connor, Kerry's Killian Young and Kildare's Daniel Flynn have all been red-carded against them. This isn't coincidence these are nasty cynical tactics from Galway used to reduce their opponents numbers!! bigfrankt (Monaghan) - Posts: 123 - 31/07/2018 10:43:43 2127770 Link 3 |
I suppose it will suit Dublin alright, heaven forbid Kerry scrap through and set up an ambush for the boys in blue...

This is ridiculous. I think that counties should get their own house in order rather than throw stones in glass houses. It would be more appropriate to look at the figures for our own counties rather than the opponents in terms of red card or black card counts. Galway are a hard hitting side. They are no different to any other team, they gave as good as they got in the kildare game. Kerry came to the table unprepared for this intensity, but in fairness to them, the Monaghan match has wised their young lads up no end. Maybe the Monaghan county board should write a letter to GAA HQ underlining their concerns about Galway's physicality and cynicism? Or maybe you are expressing an individual opinion on this. My guess is that you are. Donegalman (None) - Posts: 3846 - 31/07/2018 11:00:58 2127778 Link 1 |
I wouldn't worry about that if I were you!

Diarmuid O Connor's red card was all his own doing and cost his team that game. tommy132 (Mayo) - Posts: 634 - 31/07/2018 11:24:59 2127789 Link 2 |
All those innocent lads who got sent off for throwing elbows at people's jaw and heads. This is gas. You've quoted a list of players who got sent off for what were in most cases cowardly and dangerous swings (Conroy suffered a concussion and damaged jaw) and Galway are the nasty team? I was at most of these games including the league match in Salthill against Dublin. Sherlock ran on to the pitch and hit a shoulder into a player's back. There was no one near him before he did this. It was nothing serious, but he was rightly sent off and received a suspension. How on earth can you defend an official getting involved with a player who's nowhere hear him? How many Galway games have you been at this year? WanPintWin (Galway) - Posts: 2277 - 31/07/2018 11:45:00 2127801 Link 3 |
Wouldn't that be interesting?

Conor Lane to ref this one, generally a good fair ref. giveitlong (Galway) - Posts: 1273 - 31/07/2018 12:11:42 2127816 Link 1 |

Should they NOT call him on it? Maybe we should all ignore it or give him permission to cheat. Simulation should get a card. Workingclass (Mayo) - Posts: 26 - 31/07/2018 12:50:40 2127831 Link 0 |
I'd say it's more likely opponents see Galway as a young side with a history of being soft and so play the game with a bit more physicality against them. Both McCurry and Kelly were sent off in the 1st half for reacting stupidly to fairly standard fouls. I can't imagine they experienced anything in 30 minutes against a fairly young Galway defence they hadn't come across before in Ulster championship.

They absolutely should call him on it, when he does it. But they should also then call it out the other forwards who are at it. He's far from the only one and he doesn't do it anywhere near as regularly as is being suggested. He had a perfect opportunity to pull a Kildare back down with him when they were hanging off him as he made his way through on goal. He didn't, and ended up with a disallowed goal and not even getting a free. In the league final, he was fouled multiple times inside the first 25 mins and only got a couple of frees. The incident where he eventually pulled Scully with him, was after he had been fouled already but the whistle wasn't blown. WanPintWin (Galway) - Posts: 2277 - 31/07/2018 13:08:46 2127840 Link 0 |
I fear the Galway lads might just be too relaxed .....Its just not the same when you don't have to win it. BigJohn.6_8 (Galway) - Posts: 704 - 31/07/2018 13:40:08 2127856 Link 0 |
Based on recent performances with us, the appointment of C Lane for this game has given Galway license to maul McManus et al. at will. mhunicean_abu (Monaghan) - Posts: 1066 - 31/07/2018 13:43:23 2127857 Link 0 |
Things are getting a bit niggly in here never mind on the field! Our lads are well fit to give and take in a physical contest, I just hope they can keep their heads and focus on what they have to do - win. blueblood (Monaghan) - Posts: 73 - 31/07/2018 13:57:25 2127867 Link 1 |
I see the galway management or feeling the pressure. Talking about players been fouled and needing protection. That is a sing of weakness. mon07 (Monaghan) - Posts: 139 - 31/07/2018 16:49:56 2127926 Link 1 |
