From 1 team only. Monaghan deserve nothing but congratulations for the win. They've a semi final to look forward to next week and they've a fighting chance against whoever they face. Galway have brought the whole notion of the super 8s into question today IMO. They've effectively thrown a game in the hope of getting Dublin on an occasion that isn't as overwhelming as an all Ireland final. It could, and I think it will, backfire spectacularly. Dublin will rest players tomorrow but still win and keep the momentum going. They'll recognise this Galway ploy for what it is and that will seriously motivate them. cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 5244 - 04/08/2018 20:06:37 2129026 Link 5 |

Don't buy the notion Galway didn't want to win they named a very strong team they were just shown up by a better team. jacktheDub (Dublin) - Posts: 944 - 04/08/2018 20:14:41 2129036 Link 1 |
Yes Monaghan fully deserved it but the ref was poor. However we have only ourselves to blame fir our performance although media will be the usual down on us yet they were the ones building us up not us ourselves. Whatever about losing it the manner of the defeat will be hard to recover from. Today Monaghan had to go for it. We tried to correct first half errors but it would be disingenuous to Monaghan with the view we were holding back. I think it just did not happen and one team got a run and made hay. Fair play to Monaghan for that. The only consolation is nobody will give us a prayer next week and even our support will suffer but either way can't let all the good work becoming undone by at least not putting in a performance.

Not at all. Easy to make a mistake, sometimes you remember the finals furthur back like, 1983 than the more recent ones.

Fair play. The Kingdom future is bright with the young talent. We all got carried away with the big wins in Munster. The days of 1975 with a very young team emerging from nowhere seem to have past. Just have to serve the apprenticeship.

Kerry overrated and over hyped by Kingdom media O'Ses, Der Bomber etc.. Tyrone only team capable of stopping Dubs doing 4 in a row.

Yes I'm very worried. We're completely screwed. Galway for the double. For my penance I'm going to holiday in Laois. Dubh_linn (Dublin) - Posts: 2313 - 04/08/2018 20:47:09 2129056 Link 3 |

Wanted A Galway win but in fairness Monaghan did their homework as opposed to Galway who obviously didn't watch Monaghan against Kerry or chose to ignore it. I will always follow any Connacht county after my on are gone but in truth this Galway team is hard to watch. Very rarely does a bunch of footballers as talented as this current Galway panel arrive at the same time. Aside from Dublin maybe Galway have the best attacking talent in the country but they stifle it by making them play an absurd defensive game. Absurd because they also have a set of backs who are as bloody capable as any defence in the country. Congrats Monaghan but FFS Kevin Walsh let your players play. ponga (Mayo) - Posts: 658 - 04/08/2018 21:05:01 2129073 Link 3 |
I totally agree. Like Down a few years ago it's hard to see a county with a stylish tradition turning completely in the opposite direction. And the current style is not best suited to their talent as you say.

73 minutes all you can hear around the Stadium is "Monaghan Monaghan", our captain being sent off, Sean Kelly being carried off, double scores on the scoreboard & 23 minutes since we last scored, watching guys shooting five metres wide from 20/30 metre range from good angles, our indiscipline at the back exposed, momentum now lost, pulling the short straw of playing the Dubs in the semi final after been in pole position prior to this game, back to reality & some guys talking that Galway were saving themselves for next week ? ? Fair play to Monaghan, good football team who went for it & came to Galway in massive numbers, 10,000 more people in Galway city than the whole county of Monaghan, they have a great chance now of making an All Ireland final. What absolute nonsense! You're obviously not well versed in psychology. Of course Galway wanted to win today but all the motivation was with Monaghan. It was do or die for them. It is hard to burst a gut when you know you've already qualified and all that is to be decided is which opponent you'll play. The last thing Galway would have wanted is to have to play next Saturday against the All Ireland favourites and to have to face them following a bad defeat. It will take a few days to clear that out of the system. It would be far far more preferable to have the extra days rest that a win would have given them and to be playing an opponent that on paper at least would be less formidable than the Dubs. However it is not the end of the world that they lost. They now have an opportunity to show what they are made of, to prove that they are men and not boys, and to really put it up to the Dubs. Congratulations to Monaghan. They are a really good team with some fantastic players and I really hope that Monaghan go on now and reach the final. Yes, that's about it - a team that had already qualified against a team that was fighting to stay in it. That was always going to favour Monaghan.

Before this game I thought Monaghan were the only team left with the belief and players to make a good final. I'm glad they won and really Galway came unstuck and will be disassembled against the Dubs. Not that I don't like Galwa, but as with all counties there are some blusterous supporters who talk nonsense. They are ok but once Shane Walsh is minded they are fairly predictable. jonno (Kildare) - Posts: 261 - 04/08/2018 22:53:38 2129144 Link 5 |
With gods help, but strangely as a fan I'm not feeling disappointed this evening I'm actually feeling reenergized. Just need to get the right man in charge, I wonder would jim mcguinness be interested? He lived in Kerry once and played for Tralee IT.

I have to wonder at Galway's mentality or was it a case that they know they have to beat Dublin to win the All Ireland so maybe they think the best time to play them is in the semi? either way a poor performance at home and momentum lost, Tirchonaill1 (Donegal) - Posts: 3168 - 04/08/2018 23:32:17 2129161 Link 0 |
Leave Jim well alone he has his hands full with his media work, coaching badges and whatever else covert coaching he might be doing further up the west coast ;)
