Laois hurling star Willie Dunphy has brought the curtain down on his stellar 14-year inter-county career.
The highly-rated forward confirmed his decision in an Instagram post on New Year’s Eve with the words “Agus Sin É. 2011—2025”. Dunphy was one of Laois’ leading lights of the past decade, inspiring them to a Joe McDonagh Cup final victory over Westmeath in 2019 and to a famous All-Ireland SHC preliminary quarter-final win over Dublin the following week.
He also won a pair of Allianz League Division 2A medals in 2013 and 2024, and served as O’Moore County captain in 2023.
At club level, Dunphy continues to be a key figure for Clough/Ballacolla, with whom he has won eight Laois SHC medals to date, including five in the last six years.
