Cavan stalwart Killian Clarke has announced his retirement from inter-county football.

One of Cavan's best and most versatile performances of the last decade, the Shercock man made a whopping 134 senior appearances for the Breffni County, scoring 2-25 in the process. He had the distinction of winning Ulster medals at minor, U21 and senior level and also represented Ireland in the 2015 and 2017 International Rules series. In addition, he won a Railway Cup medal with Ulster in 2016.

The former Cavan captain made his Ulster SFC debut against Donegal in 2012, with his Allianz League debut coming against Antrim the following year. Prior to that, he won an Ulster MFC medal in 2011 and helped his county to a three in-a-row of Ulster U21FC triumphs in 2012, '13 and '14.

The highlight of his illustrious inter-county playing career came in 2020 when he played a key role in Cavan's capture of the Anglo-Celt Cup after a 23-year lapse. Furthermore, he was nominated for an All-Star in 2013 and was named in the inaugural Tailteann Cup Team of the Year in 2022.

“All in Cavan GAA County Board wish Killian the very best for the future and thank him sincerely for his dedication and commitment to Cavan GAA over the years,” a county board statement read.

“Enjoy the time with your family and friends.”

The 32-year-old's decision is a blow to new Cavan manager Dermot McCabe ahead of the 2026 season.
