Ballyhale Shamrocks are All-Ireland club senior hurling champions for the ninth time after seeing off a stubborn Dunloy Cuchullains side by 1-22 to 1-15 this afternoon.

The Kilkenny kingpins outscored their Antrim counterparts by 0-8 to 0-2 in the closing quarter at Croke Park to extend their lead at the top of the Tommy Moore Cup roll of honour list where they are now five clear of both Birr (Offaly) and Portumna (Galway).

Dunloy had made a brilliant start that saw Ronan Molloy’s goal putting them ahead before Eoin Cody, who finished with 1-5, blasted to the Ulster champions’ net.

That strike helped last year’s beaten finalists to carry in a 1-9 to 1-7 lead at the half before the third quarter saw Dunloy answering the favourites point for point.

Ballyhale’s lead was at one with 10 minutes remaining at headquarters and brace of points from Cody helped them to surge clear with TJ Reid also keeping the scoreboard ticking over until the finish.
