Agreed. Look I have think we will get promotion, my worry is that we win next 3 games and still miss out. However maybe that's the eternal optimist in me. If we don't it won't be end of world as it's year one starting from scratch. royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 19449 - 10/03/2017 11:22:45 1965925 Link 0 |
Just thinking about Harnan and Tobin coming back last Sunday. And I wonder if its a departure from previous years of managing injuries. From what I gather both players played for the clubs a few times and maybe could have made the bench for the Down for even the Derry game. Looks to me Andy is not rushing players back from injury and is waiting until they are full fit. Both players to me did not look rusty and played to end and showed no real sign that they where not fit. If I am reading it right I hope it continues rushing players back to soon can make things worst. Management showed real patience not rushing guys back. Also I think it might focus any player that gets injured I need to get back full fit asap of I will not make the team. bobkarlgees (Meath) - Posts: 1270 - 10/03/2017 11:29:34 1965927 Link 0 |
If a player is not able to give 110% on the pitch there is no point in him being there.

For starters Andy is only in the door and his pedigree speaks for itself. As I've said before it's a transitional year where we'll be trying to find out our best starting XV and in doing so will have good results and bad and will have to accept both with good grace. To my mind we'll have to celebrate the small victories, like not throwing away large leads, competing right until the final whistle, becoming harder to break down, the players we have to work with showing improvement and so on. In doing so we'll create a more positive environment in which the players and staff will hopefully progress and flourish. It's far too early to be calling Andy 'Banty Mark 2.' To be honest that is complete and utter nonsense. As fore Mick, I have some sympathy with him, but at the end of the day he had four years in the post and there was little, if any, progress. He's a good man, but I think the job was just too big for him. GlasgowRoyal (Meath) - Posts: 295 - 10/03/2017 12:50:29 1965959 Link 0 |
Yep that's was my point all to often in past few years players seem to rushed back quickly.

Yeah and sometimes it made healing injuries just go again.

iv noticed we've really been struggling with 45's in the league and long range frees in general, i'd definitely like to see paddy O'Rourke come up and kick them, there's no doubting he has great range with the frees.. lenihan is a good free taker but 45 and beyond is out of his range, james toher still a good option for the left footed frees, thoughts? redser123 (Meath) - Posts: 412 - 11/03/2017 14:21:01 1966156 Link 0 |
por has been tried before and is not the answer. his strike rate is about 1 in 5 or 6. its a serious issue & is going to cost us in a tight game

I second that I don't want to POR next or near 45 on long range frees. I get a pain in my head when I see coming to take them. I but get your point we are struggling in this area.

newman hasn't been very consistant either. maybe that was a result of him being injured or unfit, i dont know, stafford wasnt the freetaker when he started but he practiced & practiced & perfected it, thats what we need now

I see lenihan is the top scorer in division 2 with a total of 1-20, this is despite some very inconsistent free taking, this says a lot about what great form he's in.. Agree with the posts above, very frustrating how we are missing 3 or 4 easy enough frees a game redser123 (Meath) - Posts: 412 - 11/03/2017 20:50:06 1966231 Link 1 |
Newman is probably the best we have at taking long range frees royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 19449 - 11/03/2017 21:11:37 1966239 Link 1 |
Agreed he's been excellent, still not sure he has the pace for Championship but he's making a great fist of the league, previous exposure has brought him on lot. We'd be in deep trouble without him.

Why do you feel he doesnt have the pace for championship? Was one of our best performers in the loss to Derry last summer and has been excellent in the league so far

See a lot of posts going comparing Andy McEntee and Mick O'Dowd. How the team will do under McEntee in the next few years nobody knows but one thing seems to have improved a bit this year compared to last previous years, morale in the team seems to be better. There seems to be a bit more spirit in the team. I doubt Meath would have come back like the way they did against Galway (and they all so came from behind against Derry, were behind mid-way in the second half) when Mick O'Dowd was in charge. Even in the terrible display against Down, looking back now, yes that was a terrible display but had we played a bad game like that last year I could have seen us lose by much more than 2 (we were 5 or 6 behind at one stage in the second half if memory serves me right and we almost got an underserved draw in the end). bdbuddah (Meath) - Posts: 1413 - 13/03/2017 19:10:21 1966815 Link 1 |
