As others have said it's difficult to get decent context from the radio. On the face of it, it sounds like a lot of the performances from the last few years. 20 - 30 minutes of good football and the rest not so much. The only real difference is that the burst of good football now seems to come in the 2nd half rather than the 1st. Obviously it remains to be seen if this management team can change whatever is causing the drop off. It'll be interesting to see if Andy's rant will get a reaction from the team. God Andy wasn't impressed, I presume when you at the game the comeback sort of clouds everything else. In the cold light of day you could see why he wasn't happy. Still think victory over Fermanagh will be very tricky to secure, our record against Northern teams is not the best. A win against them and we can secure our status and possibly then we can see where that takes us after. My main point was I think it was better to secure our status in Div 2 status rather than talk about promotion and that's still the case. Ah RoyalDunne get real for a second. Cork a credible Division 1 team? Their present team is nowhere near that level, at present they've only won one Division 2 game and are currently the fourth best side in Munster. It's time a bit of realism and perspective was shown by us. While we did well to come back from 9 points down, we really have to start playing for 70 odd minutes. Would still like see Menton at 7 if we can have Flanagan in the middle with Toher.....I assume Flanagan is not fully fit yet,or not showing well in training ??? O Coileann not delivering either and position now in doubt. Would be keen to start Sean Tobin next day maybe. Encouraging interview from Andy. I think the 20 minutes of good football (albeit aided by a Cork collapse that we would have been proud of) shouldn't excuse the previous 50 minutes of muck. I think previously it would have been all about the comeback rather than what happened that necessitated the come back. Biggy did well but was at fault for us going behind again towards the end (losing the ball under no pressure in midfield and kicking straight into the keepers hands a minute later). He looked out on his feet. Keogan was magnificent at the back and when he was pushed further up. Need a 70 minute performance next week. Fermanagh will not collapse if they go ahead like Cork did. Meath have been giving away substantial leads for the last 3-4 years . And have genuinely got back into games to just fall short, Great comebacks BUT . And if you know as much as you claim to about things you would understand that is exactly what happens . Players put 110% of their energies trying to get back into games of this sort , when they do , they invariably are running on dry , or reserve, their mental as well as fuel stores are depleted . Managers then throw fresh legs into the equation to try to bolster the efforts to get the team across the line . Unfortunately getting up to the speed of inter-county football is not that simple . If the opposition up their game ( get a second wind) , they can cross the line as they are replenished . Its the comeback is what leaves the tank empty mentally and physically in the last minutes . And that is why we in Meath do not need any more of this . Meath need to dominate games from start to finish . Not allow teams to get a substantial lead in any match, which prevents us from having to chase games and end up on reserve . From start to finish Meath need to pin the opposition back .Waiting for the opposition to tire so that we can have a great comeback is useless , because invariably the tank is running on reserve coming into the critical part of the game , the last 5 minutes . Tell me what has changed in the last year to give us confidence that this is not a head issue with this crop of players . The introductions only partially worked against Cork . James McEntees introduction was positive , Andy has an issue with this group of players and it appears to be a serious one . Mentally the guys were tired in the last five minutes , due to they having to chase . That's why some mad decisions with the boots were taken . I think its just in our DNA to let teams get build leads and then try to chase them down. Even back in the Boylan era there is countless examples of this. We rarely do anything simple. Ziggy ......yes i would think that was refreshing ,and long overdue. The man showed his frustration especially with the experienced players.. I dont blame him. I hope he continues to say it as it is,and also has enough patience to stick around...If any player dislikes his approach of telling the truth tough...move on. In the recent past we would be "celebrating" our fightback for a draw. Now Andy tells the players we blew it. I think that is a great example of the manager addressing ATTITUDE and mental weakness.
