The lads on this forum are absolutely determined that our stadium MUST be in Pairc Tailteann. No point in even discussing economics or financial viability.

I'm not saying to give up on it, but lads need to be realistic. There's several comments on this thread saying "They're aiming too big, just build a new stand" as if that's some small project that can be done on the cheap."]Exactly. People need to be aware there would be two parts here, demolition and construction. Demolition could be even more complicated and possibly asbestos in the roof of the stand which is extremely expensive to dispose of. The demolition and site preparation would be huge for this project."]That Asbestos sheeting is the most basic form of asbestos. Its simply hosed down and kept wet and unbolted and put into closed bins.. Not much more expensive than your average skip. As demo jobs go that stand is about as easy as it gets."]Sell it off to a developer and then the demolition is someone else's problem. Build a small stadium wooden and steel prefab stadium (Slovenian companies doing this to high spec and decent price) on a greenfield site somewhere off the M3. I couldn't care less if there is no pub near it. Crinigan (Meath) - Posts: 1352 - 04/05/2023 19:54:11 2475783 Link 8 |
I've said it before. I'm a Leinster Season Ticket Holder, My ticket is about €500. Since I started i've been sitting in a temporary Scaffold Main Stand. It is and will remain that way for a long time as the plans to redevelop the RDS are as distant as the plans for PT. It is fair more comfortable than any seat in PT or most older GAA stadiums. It is the length of the Field so it must hold about 8000 people. It holds the media. There is a roof covering the majority of the seats. Some news at long last. A 5k stand, terrace behind each goal, 20k capacity with floodlights. Would have loved a bit more seating but that's still a good stadium if finished. Still won't believe anything is happening until I see a digger in taking down the old stand LeitrimRoyal99 (Meath) - Posts: 1527 - 11/07/2023 09:38:57 2493721 Link 3 |
Mighty news that the redevelopment of Pairc Tailteann is to start in 18-months. Finally sense has prevailed with a new stand happening and the terrace being left alone. Floodlighting and fixing the banks at both ends will leave us with a super ground. Well done to those who have progressed this project and raised massive finance for it. Agreed, a bit more seating would have been good but seeing as there is no mention of the existing terrace in this plan you could see seating installed there in the future, they are concentrating on the areas that need immediate attention and that's good, seems the IIP funding has saved the bacon as only for it I doubt anything would be happening, I wonder is there a need to reapply for planning?

The floodlights are going to be an absolute game changer, and an upgrade behind each goal should make it a very nice ground. RR (Meath) - Posts: 165 - 11/07/2023 13:41:13 2493790 Link 0 |
Super news tbf and about time. Great that the sideline terrace will be left as is, and the Stand is now the main focal point. Joined up thinking at last. New stand, 20k capacity and floodlights - major progress. Fionn (Dublin) - Posts: 4051 - 11/07/2023 14:32:25 2493802 Link 0 |
At last is right! The proposal now is what I have been saying all along from day 1, was the only viable design option, from when the white elephant four stand stadium was announced. We are where we are now and we have to move on from it and hope we see the new stand in place before long, but if the County Board weren't listened to the many voices like myself, who warned them, that the only viable design solution was to demolish the existing stand and build a new one in its place, we would have an extra €700,000 in the kitty to spend on the new stand now proposed. I got plenty of rebuttals on here too, telling me I was totally wrong and that it was impossible to knock the old stand and build a new one in its place. I am glad it is going to happen at last. Great news and finally some sense as prevailed. Focus on the immediate priorities. New stand, floodlights, facilities around the stand including dressing rooms, and terraces behind the goals. men_of_49 (Meath) - Posts: 2003 - 11/07/2023 21:24:11 2493893 Link 0 |
Good news. But a pity we couldn't get more seats. In the future I see more people will expect to be seated when going to games, had we got say 10k seats I could see Navan getting more far games in the future (it's a ideal location for group games between Ulster and Leinster teams). With the huge population in the county now it doesn't seem that ambitious, we really should have a ground equivalent to Galway or Mayo (I can't see it on the internet but looking at them it seems both have far more seats). How will the upgraded Pairc Tailteann compare to Port Laoise/ Tullamore and upgraded Newbridge in terms of capacity and seats? bdbuddah (Meath) - Posts: 1402 - 11/07/2023 22:08:40 2493897 Link 0 |
Tullamore & Portlaoise stands are both circa 5k seating. Newbridge is around 3 I believe. Its still going to be quite a shallow stand in Conleths, so capacity wont be huge. Jinxie (Meath) - Posts: 6347 - 12/07/2023 12:26:19 2493958 Link 0 |
We will top Newbridge anyway where the new stand will hold 3500 out of a roughy 15'000 capacity, I stand to be corrected but out of an 18'000 capacity Tullamore has around 7000 seats including some rows of open seating behind one of the goals, and Portlaoise has between 6000 and 6500 seats out of a capacity of around 25'000, so we aee not that far off the mark in overall terms but I do agree a few more seats would be desirable, I look forward to seeing the new plans and maybe long term see what tje plan for the northern terrace is as it certainly presents as an option to increase seating capacity.

Has there been an announcement about what the "Royal Way" is? I see it mentioned in the articles but can't find anything else about it. Ratoath Royal (Meath) - Posts: 1374 - 12/07/2023 18:20:19 2494016 Link 5 |
Common sense has prevailed in the long run. The playing surface is to be left alone, in theory at any rate. Hopefully some clown doesn't rip up some of the pitch while demolishing the old stand or building the new one. Eminently sensible to leave the north terrace alone as it's probably the only part of the old stadium that is fully compliant with current standards. Lights, properly constructed and installed will be a huge plus. MillerX (Meath) - Posts: 1080 - 12/07/2023 19:57:17 2494027 Link 2 |
Actually, come to think of it, even if we don't seat the existing terrace if we could cover it it would be a huge improvement.

Yes agreed, a cover of any kind on that side would be a great addition, important that it gets some TLC in this plan too, the toilets behind need a complete overhaul and new barriers wouldn't go astray to replace the ones that had bits and struts welded in between them a few years back

I imagine it's going to be some sort of walkway leading to, or within, the ground where you can buy a paving slab or stone or some such thing.

Celtic did this a while back, and other clubs also. Great way to raise money and a permanent way to be part of the new PT. Fans buying/sponsoring paving stones etc. Super idea in fairness if it is done correctly. Fionn (Dublin) - Posts: 4051 - 13/07/2023 14:12:01 2494134 Link 1 |
When is fundraising going to start for this? Hopefully we go for more of the massively successful house draws we had a couple of years ago. Meath gaa must be rolling in dosh! jackmeyhoffer (USA) - Posts: 150 - 13/07/2023 22:50:29 2494239 Link 0 |
