I presume this is the only way pairc taillteann can be kept open?

Exactly. You must have a covered area. So the first to go has to be the terrace unfortunately. As the stand is in worse condition.

If a covered area is a requirement and it is planned to put a stand at the hospital/old swimming pool end as well as replace the existing stand then this is the place to start. Leave the only piece of current infrastructure that meets current standards alone i.e. the terrace on the road side/Brew's Hill. But and it is a big but I can see H&S closing the whole place down once any type of demolition begins. Also I am of the belief that someone or some outside body is pulling some strings when it is not really their business. MillerX (Meath) - Posts: 1080 - 29/07/2019 11:00:19 2218040 Link 0 |
The talk is Phase 1 will cost around €12 - 14 million involving a 7000 seater stand and all associated with that and putting floodlights back up. Funding is Central Council €4 million Leinster Council €1 million (which is derisory) and Government funding of hopefully €8 million and Meath make up the rest. Vastly experienced men like Liam Mulvihill involved which has to be a great asset. The idea of starting in the terrace side first is, I believe, due to the fact that they have to have seating and a covered area to stay open but also that the pitch is going to be slightly altered when work starts on the stand side and that work will mean closing the pitch for a period of time, an argument could be made to start work on the goal ends but the planned capacity at either end is 4000, whilst the terrace side will hold 7000 so I imagine they want to get as much capacity developed in Phase 1 as possible, additionally the priority is two 7000 seater stands on both sides, whilst stands are planned for both goal ends whether they get built remains to be seen, one of the goal ends could easily end up as a terrace.

Does anybody know what the story is here. Work was meant to start May 2019. Here we are 5 months later and not a word about it LeitrimRoyal99 (Meath) - Posts: 1527 - 01/10/2019 22:42:31 2240800 Link 13 |
Not a thing can be done until the government funding is announced (Large Scale Sport Infrastructure Fund) Waterford and Kildare are in the same boat, until the funding is announced not a sod can be turned, it's a condition of that particular funding. Supposedly was to be announced this month but rumours it could be near the end of the year although I would think budget time would be a possible time for announcing things

The govt grant hasn't been announced yet and they can't start until they know how much money they're going to have to spend. As far as I know that grant will be announced before Christmas but Brexit May delay this until after Christmas. Nothing will happen then next year during the league so it could be the latter half of next year before work gets underway. jackhackett (Meath) - Posts: 773 - 02/10/2019 08:39:32 2240844 Link 0 |
I think only making €300,000 on the last house draw wont go very far. Would want to be some lump of a government grant and a good big Check from GAA headquarters to even build one stand. Would want to sell some amount of tickets in the final draw to do any significant development. Unfortunately from a fans point of view it doesn't look like we will get state of the art facilities, I think anyone that thinks the scale of the development as proposed can still go ahead is mad.

I get the impression a lot of people bought a ticket for 3 draws this time last year, which boosted the money taken in for the first draw. But those people have no intention of buying tickets for the 2nd and 3rd draws since they should already be in them. CastleBravo (Meath) - Posts: 1668 - 16/10/2019 09:57:08 2243884 Link 19 |
Yea. That's what I did.

The aim of the house draw was to make a complete profit of €1 million, that target is still very much achievable, as said elsewhere a lot of people bought the three tickets for €250 online at the start and that was always going to have a knock on effect. Croke Park have committed €4 million and Leinster Council €1 and hopefully the funding under the Large Scale Sports Infrastructure fund will be what was asked for which I believe was in the region of €8 million. All these things are in train and no development work can begin until the government funding is announced, that is a condition. No point adopting a negative attitude to this, if everyone does their bit then Phase 1 will be up and running very soon.

When's the government announcement. Or do we know ?

That is very informative, so all going well (including our own €1 million) that adds up to €14 million, so yeah that, you would imagine should go a long way towards building one stand. I am pleasantly surprised for our €1 million input we get €13 million in financial aid. I wasn't been negative as I know a lot of people have worked really hard on promoting and selling tickets for the house draw but just pointing out buildings costing realities where the €300,000 profit from the last draw would not even cover the building cost of an average new house.

It was supposed to be this month but it has been delayed, some of the shenanigans in the FAI I think caused some delay, some say it'll be by the end of the year some day early next year or they could turn around next week and announce it, anyway neither Meath, Kildare or Waterford can begin any work until the funding is announced so it's a waiting game at present.

It'll be €13 million if the government come up trumps which they should given Navan's geographic location and motorway access and given the fact that we have 3 heavy hitters from the cabinet table in the county, if Michael Ring can get a dual carriageway in Mayo then our three should be capable of refurbishing Pairc Tailteann, parish pump works for me every time.

Pairc Tailteann development is capped at €10 million by Croke Park. Boynerover (Meath) - Posts: 11 - 17/10/2019 21:42:41 2244148 Link 0 |
I'm sure Helen mcentee in particular will have a huge input. She brought Leo down to the Kerry game to show what needs to be done. So hopefully there is no ge prior to announcement. As you say parish pump works for me.

Meath GAA have not applied for a €13m million grant so therefore won't get €13m. Boynerover (Meath) - Posts: 11 - 18/10/2019 13:42:59 2244230 Link 1 |
