Replying To Young_gael:  "Think it, don't say it, dont even whisper it.

There could be something very special brewing with this Meath team. I could eat my hat in six months time, but this has to be the biggest middle 8 in the country, with a lot of big, powerful, athletic operators and finally a bit of room upfront for the tidy forwards we have... These new rules will massively suit Meath football. I just have a feeling."
It's great to feel excited and optimistic about this team again. Looking well set-up at midfield for the FRC era, - both in terms of fielding and winning breaking ball.
The same goes for forwards. Denis Walsh noted that Limerick hurlers, when they were on the rise, did the following, "Their first principle was to always have more shots than their opponents, even if that meant shipping more wides. By increasing their output, wides came at a smaller cost." It feels like Brennan & Co are giving the forwards license to pursue a similar policy. The Morris-driven purple patch came after he easily shook off a few wides in a row.
Our defensive system will need to improve, but that will bed-in, and the likes of Caulfield, Rafferty, O'Halloran will get better and better. We'll sharpen up on the silly concession of FRC-related frees too.
Roscommon could still give us a reality check on Sunday. I think we'll need two or more goals to give them a proper rattle. But, regardless, I still feel we're the coming team in Div 2 in terms of room for improvement and age profile.

Great performance on Saturday and looking forward to Sunday. One thing that the new rules has brought up is that a keeper has to be very comfortable on the ball and also able to act as a playmaker. Now likely this rule of allowing the keeper up the pitch may go after the league as it appears to be the only negative of eh new rules. If it is to stay we may need to look at sourcing an out field player for goals.

Why would we need an outfielder? Billy Hogan has been more than good enough playing the quarter back role so far. He is adding to attacks, kicking 45s and commanding his area brilliantly. Not sure changing billy would be a wise move, for me, he has been one of our best performers this season, albeit only 3 games in.

As expected the new manager brought big improvement. I would think he is still finding his feet and will improve more. It was 2 weak team's we beat but last 2years they would beat us. A bigger test against Roscommon coming up, but hopefully he is moving up gears still.

Billy is a good young keeper and if the keeper going up the pitch rule changes then he will be in goals for years to come. My opinion is that the keeper with the current rules needs to have pace to join the attack and contribute to scoring from play. Sitting in the pocket and acting like a quarter back has worked ok but they way things are he would need to be breaking through the middle and scoring. A lot to ask of a keeper i accept but needs to be a scoring threat and draw backs onto him.

Looks like high winds and wet weather on Sunday, could be a bit of a game spoiler but even more likely to play into our hands if we are more than breaking even at midfield. Likely to be a match of 2 pointer showdowns.

It's getting more like who ever near goals go in.
Putting ur best forward in goals wouldnt be mad as people think.having them on the ball could reap rewards especially the likes of Jordan morris he's kicking them over for fun.

Indeed , very strong southerly breeze expected on Sunday which means the breeze will blow across the pitch making for very tricky shooting.

Any idea of what the Meath team was that played against Kildare in the development league last night? Kildare have been publishing their teams.

Robbie Brennan in the Chronicle, "We were hoping to limit teams to around the 1-14 mark if we are stingy enough. Obviously they kicked a couple of super scores there towards the end, so that brought their tally up a bit for them. "We have been doing a bit over the last couple of weeks on our defensive stuff, while also working on our attacking game as well. There is so much going on in a training session it's crazy, but we have brilliant coaches and they have been a big part of how we are going so far."
Really do expect constant improvement this year, regardless of Sunday's result. Though can't wait for the game too.

Thats the best performance I've seen from a meath team in years. I said the same thing last week. Robbie and his coaches deserve a lot of credit.

4 games, 4 very good performances. Robbie Brennan has this team playing good football and the improvement from last year is absolutely night and day. Great win over a good side and the push has to be for promotion now

Hugely important win against a very good Roscommon side.

Meath did well to dominate midfield first 10 mins and Roscommon knew they had a game on their hands. Great spread of scorers across games. Felt Meath always had an extra gear.

Great to see Meath just doing the simple things well.

Yes, this is the most important win for Meath in several years and yes its okay to say it now -- Meath are back

Best day out in PT for a long time, gave a seasoned division 1 side a good beating and yes it was a beating. We controlled it and being only 4 down at HT against that wind I felt wouldn't be enough for the Rossies, given our first half display.
We got ahead through 2 great goals from defensive turnovers and left Roscommon desperate for goals. So proud of the entire team today, starters and subs worked and ran all match even if it wasn't going for them.
Hon the Royals

I loved Robbie Brennans interview when he said last week sic " we aren't waiting 3-4 years to be our best, we want it now" No excuses for Sigerson. No excuses full stop. Proper team performance and spirit, bit of bite!

Very impressive and most importantly consistent displays.

Losing Jones is a major blow. Morris was very erratic today.
Thought Flynn & Menton were brilliant. Keoghan a fine wine, and Caufield Coffey very very good.

Hogan was faultless except for one dubious sideline kick. Hard to pick fault. But Westmeath are no slouches at home. A kick in the butt is only 6inches from a pat on the back.

Just keep it going lads! It's a tonic in a miserable February!

One of the best wins i've seen in a long time. The determination and hard work especially around the middle of the field and backs was brilliant

Great kicking in the second half and defending Especially for the two goals Rafferty turn over and We went up the field and Coffey goal Keoghan was brilliant today, Something fresh about this team great structure and is coached properly unlike the last 2 years. Full back line is going extremely well and we are shooting great. Looks like brighter days ahead.

Great win today.Well done to management and the team. The last 2 games we have gone on a scoring spree for 5/10 mins in the second half and turned the game in our favour.Midfield has really shone last few games as jones now has Flynn and menton to help carry the load there. Our performances are getting better each game so let's hope that continues. Hopfully jones injury is not too serious.Very early days but great to see us play with belief and hunger.long may that continue.

What a difference a year makes. The level of performance of the first 4 games has been consistent and such a step up from the past 3 seasons. The new rules definitely suit us and we look really well coached and lads knowing their roles. What impressed me most about yesterday is that nobody needed a Roy of the rovers 10/10 doing everything performance. Lads just played their roles. Keoghan focused on marking Murtagh and didn't need to also get drive us on going forward. Flynn and Menton could focus on catching and breaking kickouts without the need to score heavily. Frayne could focus on getting into scoring positions rather than having to track back or drop deep to play make. It was such a good team performance, everybody knowing their role and we played a team with loads of division 1 experience and provincial medals off the pitch. The difference from last year is chalk and cheese. Improving every game too, no violations for not having 3 up yesterday for example. Westmeath next week is a trap game between Roscommon and Monaghan but win that and you've a serious chance at promotion. 2019 felt like we were achieving our maximum with the level of player we had. This year feels like we are just getting better and better and have a much higher ceiling given the underage talent that is progressing through

Exactly this. It must be great for the lads in the panel knowing they've lots of room for improvement while the work they're putting now is still getting rewarded.
A small thing they can fix this week is smarter showing for a pass when there's a sideline ball or a free from the back line. We handed them a point in first half yesterday from a sideline and put ourselves under pressure with ab aimless hoof of a free in the second half.
But I'm nit picking tbh. Buzzing after that game. Great team performance and the lads looked in great condition physically. Stay focused on Westmeath and do the job and the lads can have two weeks to laser focus on Monaghan.

I think the most pleasing thing has been the consistency of performances. In previous years we could play well in one game and then be hopeless in the next three. Now we are (so far) consistently performing week on week. I dont mind losing games as long as we are showing up and being competitive every week.
