How Do We Improve Meath Inter County Hurling?

Will reserve judgment until the league and know it is an experimental squad but could be a long year for the hurlers and their supporters, and not in a good way. Put in a decent second half Sunday but hard to see where scores are going to come from.

Hopefully Nicki, Paudge OHanrahan and Cian Rogers go in. Rumors that James Togher not asked back which is madness if Burke and Healy were. Age only a number.

Anyone know a full 30 man panel?

Don't know the full panel and that's the problem for a lot of people, it seems to be a big secret.

Of the team that played at the weekend all i see to come back onto it are Geraghty, Whitty, Rodgers, O' Hanrahan and Byrne.
Players from last years panel that have turned down the call up this year are Murray, Potterton, Darragh Kelly,
O 'Rearden, Regan.
Additional players of note that turned down the call up are McGann, Quigley (Trim), Gleeson, Walsh, McGowan's by3, McMahon.
No Toher in the panel or James Kelly, very strange call. Then as far as i know Burke and Quigley not called back

I also see the Na Fianna (Dublin) corner forward King is with the panel, as a goal keeper!! What's that about?

Gonna be an interesting year:)

Result aside, I was happy leaving Dunganny Sunday. They looked fitter and worked harder than they did at any stage during the Christy ring last season. The tackling and work off the ball was something that was massively missing last year.

Speaking to one of the players fathers at the game I got the impression there's no secrecy around the panel and submitting one it was more waiting on players to see if they were committing or not. We have an awful problem with lads doing year on year off and it's very evident if you go back through the teams over the last few years. We will never build anything unless that changes. Said players father also said that the group is a lot happier with some of those lads mentioned not being asked back in, take from that what you want but it sounded like there was a lot of egos there and lads doing their own thing last year.

Was surprised as anyone by the Gavin King call but he was miles better than Philly O Brien. His puckouts were hitting the man or space. Looks like an Eoin Murphy Nickie Quaid scenario out the field for the club on goals for the county

Wicklow this weekend will be interesting because they will basically have their championship team playing

I would be extremely worried about hurling on the county scene this year. I think the first half the other day showed a lot and we have to remember down had another ( stronger) team playing on Sunday whereas we weren't a million miles from full strength.
I don't think we can afford to lose the players we have and if we are saying lads are over the ditch at 32/33 we'll never get back to Joe Mac!

I am in fact Johnny Greville ……

Not on the setup but very close to a players family - just want to see this group do well is all. I hear what these guys are doing on a weekly basis to try and better themselves and meath hurling and want to support them
