Maybe so. Still a concern. I'm not from a border club so haven't first hand knowledge. But every player counts

This is a big enough of an issue in Enfield with underage lads going into to Kildare to play with johnstownbridge instead of nafianna. This situation alone has double digits and will increase with players younger siblings going playing with them aswell.

When, there is only so many weeks and days in the year. I'm sick of people saying that you cant do this and that but not offering anything as an alternative.

What's the options really. I do think hurling season is extended unnecessarily at moment with shield like competitions. Condense hurling season May to July FB only July/August to October? FB league start in March to May with Hurling? I'm not sure what best approach is. I'm not fully up to speed with hurling. Best ask dual players. listened to Robbie Brennan interview he did (last day or 2??) for Meath GAA facebook speaking about his appointment. JonnieG (Meath) - Posts: 246 - 25/09/2024 22:09:21 2571871 Link 1 |
Yes very encouraging interview. As you say, it's about finding out the true level of our players. I'm sure the management team will make some mistakes but at least we'll get an honest read on where we're at and can no longer blame being behind with senior management.

Great interview and hopefully puts to bed any doubts about him being a meath man. Not that it should matter but we all know for some it does. Anyone who knows RB at all knew he's a pure meath man.

Agree a lot here, I think we have some highly talented player in the county, an potentially only need to add one or two more fresh faces as well as bringing back in one or two that left. I think our biggest problem was with the management and style last year, not the talent itself. I'd be happy with a 3rd/4th place finish minimum next year and then aim for promotion the year after, I'd always give a manager at least 1 year to get to know his squad, implement a style etc and then after that would be looking for progress. If we get it in year 1 then thats just a bonus really ratlag (Meath) - Posts: 582 - 26/09/2024 09:16:56 2571892 Link 0 |
what's the story with RB upbringing ? Did he grow up in Dublin but supported meath etc ? Very impressed with how he came across , the fact he is not holding trials is always a plus meath1987 (Meath) - Posts: 134 - 26/09/2024 11:31:19 2571911 Link 0 |
I thought he was a Dub cos people on here kept saying he was. It was lovely to hear him talk about having his picture taken with his hero COR as a kid. And having to come up to Navan to get a Meath Jersey cos he couldn't get one in Dublin back in the day. It's a bonus that he's a Meath man. Although as you said, it doesn't matter these days.

His family or at least his Dad was kilberry and moved up to Dublin for work I believe and RB always supported Meath growing up.

the reference by him of COR as his hero...is a pure peace of magic By Brennan, plus the reference that he wont be holding trials...this is the First sign of building bridges that i have seen in Meath GAA in donkeys years...and gives me great hope that RB understands that he needs to bring everyone along...he could have very easily been indifferent to any reference to COR or worse still, , run him down ...he didn't...and instead inserted a nice image & a kind word as his only refeernce to the previous regime..early signs are good

Couldn't agree with you more, really well put. Can sense the positivity growing around the county already. Good days ahead in 2025 please God..

We will agree to disagree so. Any meath supporter I've spoken to has drawn a line completely under the COR era and has moved on and are happy to move on.

Yes agreed Colm due big thanks for giving it a go.He said he would go himself if no improvement shown. He honoured that! No value in details of leaving being made public .We need to accept that its now a new beginning where this stuff is for learning for the relevant people only. We dont want anything that can distract from the job in hand now. My final word would be the hope the CB will lead as required .That we have a strong management TEAM and that Colm will be philosophical about it all .He would know the ball does not always hop straight anyway. Thanks a million Colm for all you have done for Meath football for nearly 50 years
