Meath Club Hurling Season 2024

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

With the hurling season kicking off this week what can we expect to unfold in the year ahead. We have new structure's in place for the championship's which benefit some and hinder others i think. Pre season cups probably be hit and miss for teams due to county players and other different reasons, leagues should be competitive enough for those who are serious about winning championships.
Will our championships throw up any surprises, are Kilmessan on the way back, can Kiltale re group, will Trim re emerge, can Ratoath get over the line in senior, will Kildalkey have the hunger to go again at senior after winning 3 from last 5 championships. Can anyone else emerge here ?
In intermediate can Navan, Kilskyre, Don Ash or Rathmolyon make the breakthrough ? will Kildalkey be as strong again ?
In junior i assume Kildalkey will be strong again with players coming in from minor and others coming down with a few going up as well i assume.

I guess the biggest factor will be how many players go travelling from any club.

Here's to some enjoyable debates and view points over the coming season, best wishes to all.

How would Kilmessan be on the way back after being runners up in Senior B?

Looking forward to some games. Yeah agree Davis cup you'll see some teams maybe not fielding teams maybe due to county players or injuries plus travelling.

I see blackhall gaels have pulled out already after the year they had last year, they made great strides in fairness to them.

League is the key for any team wanting to make any impact on the championship.
Looking forward to new structure of championship.

Kilmessan have good juvenile teams. A lot of potential. Personally, I was very impressed with them last year. When a team turns up to an away match with over 30 lads on the panel, you need to take note. Won't be surprised if they make strides in the next couple of years.

Where were those 30+ players when Kilmessan gave a walkover in the league last year?

definitley a trick missed in senior rejig, its far too dragged out with zero jeproady. teams winning one group game out of 5 and getting to as senior final. maximum of 8 senior teams , two grroups of 4. top 2 teams into semi finals and bottom two in relegation play off. no need for all the chamionship games at all. hurling teams would probabaly complain they are not getting enough games then the same ones cant fulfill a fixture after not playing for 6 months like na fianna on saturday

You must be a kildalkey man not seen your senior team play!
They where they only club that didn't want this new senior change on the championship. They wanted just what you said above.
Maybe Na fianna just didn't have the team to play they have 3 in Meath senior some on under 20s team. I heard they have a few injuries as well. Not easy at this time I'd hear for any club.

i would have thought it was easy to get a team out, with it near st patricks day and no club hurling games you would think lads would be mad to get games instead of training. i dont see any benefit to playing pointless games in a so called championship, when it could be all trimmed down and get back to games that are proper chamionship where everything is on the line. league games are for fluting around with the team and trying out new younger players or different game plans. it would benefit the meath team a lot too, the cllub players play in very few all or nothing games all year, glorified challenge games wont do anyone any good. the league is actually harder to win and more cut throat than the chamionship that says it all.

All hurling clubs were invited to attend a hurling meeting to ask club delegates as to how they wanted the hurling championship to be structured. Following that meeting 5 proposals were drafted and these were put to the delegates from all the clubs and there was zero interest in proposal 1,2,4 and 5 with no one with any counter proposals. Check your facts.

Are you telling porkies Sportsman2024? I think anyone that knows anything about the restructure knows your wrong so you have either been ill advised or you have a bit of a chip on your shoulders.

I wonder which one it is:)

For most clubs, it's the timing of the conceding. Waiting to 10pm the night before a match is disrespectful to the opposition. A club doesn't learn at 10pm that they have players in County or players are on holiday or injured. Players make great sacrifice for training and matches (change work schedules ) (put off family events). If any club knows they can't field a team; let the opposition know in good time. Not much to ask.

I think all the stronger teams will benefit and want this change as they will have a couple of dead rubbers/easier games in the group stages, if you look at the senior groups, group 1 will be kildalkey with either trim or kiltale, group 2 will be ratoath with either trim or kiltale then 4 from dunderry, blackhall, killyon, athboy, kilmessan, longwood, dunboyne and na fianna.
think likes of dunderry, athboy, blackhall and dunboyne will struggle in the top half but will be fine in the bottom half in senior b after the group stages

Well done to Meath GAA on the recent promotion of the selection of the Meath minor hurling squads. Great to see some recognition and publicity to these lads. Credit where credit is due and hope the county board keep that up for juvenile teams. Best of luck to the lads in the upcoming championship

100% huge spread of clubs involved in the squad. Great to see East Meath so strongly represented.

Championship draws complete, looking at the group games there will be a few hammerings in both senior groups, inter groups don't look as unbalanced.

Agree on both points - the replacement of St Pats over another 2nd team has meant IHC has a nice look and you would hope more competition.

I think Pats have 3 lads on the county minor hurlers so hopefully they can hold their own this year and progress if they keep producing and hold on to lads like that.

Growth in hurling in East Meath would be big addition to the county playing pool

Seeing the results they weren't far off Drumree in their first intermediate outing, they might throw a surprise or two in the mix this year
