Well that's not correct. Carlow, Westmeath and Kildare all won the all ireland intermediate club championship which then guarantees them a place at the top table. Meath teams have competed well for the most part in Leinster intermediate and have come up against and bet teams who have gone on to win senior championships in their own counties. There is no relegation from senior and presumably if a county consistently got hammered every year they could elect to drop down but the 3 mentioned have all done well since going up and held their own. November hurling is very different to mid summer and it levels the playing field to an extent. Kildalkey with a big win at the weekend but a tough game ahead against the KK champions who also whalloped their opponents. Trim bet the KK champions last year so they are well capable. Kildalkey looked a sharp young team and a home game again might be the difference. Meath could be competing in senior next year! off_the_wall (Roscommon) - Posts: 72 - 13/11/2023 16:54:56 2512787 Link 2 |
Correct.

Says it all about the state of Club SHC in Meath… The county can take on Kildare Westmeath or Carlow but our clubs are deemed not fit to compete in Leinster with them glenny (Meath) - Posts: 1116 - 18/11/2023 13:33:14 2513619 Link 0 |
Because a Meath senior club hasn't won the All Ireland Intermediate club hurling championship. Kildare senior teams were playing in the Intermediate championship until Naas won the All Ireland a few seasons ago. Same with the Westmeath and Carlow champions in 2008 and 2012 respectively. If Kildalkey go on and win the All Ireland this season (hope they do), then our senior champions will be in the Leinster senior club championship next year. Hard luck to Rathkenny today. Horrible way to go out. Ratoath Royal (Meath) - Posts: 1374 - 18/11/2023 22:11:26 2513683 Link 4 |
Disappointing from Rathkenny today, a couple of times It looked like they would get over the line. 17th best team in Meath losing out to 33rd best team in Dublin. They were 4-1 to win the game today. In saying that Scoil Ui Chonaill do compete in the second division league in Dublin so would play a decent standard of football. royal11 (Meath) - Posts: 102 - 18/11/2023 22:28:20 2513686 Link 0 |
How did Kildalkey get on today?

Not too well. Out hurled on the day. Thomastown played a fluid game of hurling that Kildalkey could not cope with. Also in the tight out muscled. Goal down after 16 seconds set the pace for the day.

So all our club's involvement in Leinster is now over. No cups for the men but some gritty displays from Kilbride and Rathkenny with the latter unlucky to go out on penalties. Summerhill fell short and both hurling representatives well short in their last matches. MillerX (Meath) - Posts: 1080 - 26/11/2023 14:28:26 2514628 Link 0 |
Royal Gaels lost by 31 points. I wouldn't say that is well ahead of the mens by any means and is a sad reflection of the ladies Championship in Meath

Rathkenny beaten by the 33rd ranked team in Dublin. Our Senior ladies champions have lagged behind since the good Seneschalstown team, Dunboyne were an exception in 2021. Overall a disappointing display by Meath clubs in Leinster.

I did acknowledge that our Senior ladies reps were behind the Dublin reps but that overall the ladies in both codes did better than the men. By the way Kilmacud Crokes' ladies were equally ruthless in all their games in Leinster. But the main point I was making is that presently our ladies inter county teams operate at a higher level than our inter county men's teams and that results in the main the lady club players performing better. Message, and a lot of posters are tired saying that standards have dropped generally in the county and is reflected across the grades. Nobody appears to have the answers and I am beginning to think that the ladies are better managed at all levels in the county. There is hope on the men's football front as in recent years our minors have been successful. Remember those teams are now under 17 and it takes time for those young men to develop BUT worryingly the minors of 2020 who won Leinster did not win the corresponding under 20 in 2023. It is something we must address. One reason I suggest for this drop off in standards from under 17 to under 20 is that while in school they are possibly in a better or standardised coaching system AND then when those young men go full time to their various clubs many are in old fashioned coaching/training systems and performance is there by affected. Maybe another pointer as to why our clubs need to adopt a new approach. MillerX (Meath) - Posts: 1080 - 27/11/2023 11:31:47 2514703 Link 0 |
