I would expect an announcement after the Dublin SFC Final this Sunday.....

Fionn, fair play to you. You're never one for spoofing to be fair to you. I'm assuming robbie's team comes with him too does it? Are you leaning towards Ballyboden winning? As you say long term gain and short term pain is great sentiment. If kilmacud go out and there's no announcement you'll have a lot of people gunning for you mind ;) brian (Meath) - Posts: 1973 - 20/10/2023 13:51:51 2509443 Link 4 |
I was told last night that he is in but it's some full time role within Meath GAA as in Director of coaching and development or something along those lines rather than in with the Meath senior management so remains to be seen how much influence he would have on the senior team in the short term next year or even the year after.

Hope Boden win it - would love to see some of their guys get the medal. Also, Raheny left is behind them in the semi final. I was gutted for them tbh. As for RB - yes, it is a done deal. Cant blame Crokes for not announcing it with a SFC Final this weekend. If Crokes win, they cannot keep it a secret for much longer... I think long term Meath GAA will see the benefits of it tbh. Dont forget COR only has 2 more years also..... but he would be foolish not to lean on RB during the next 2 years Fionn (Dublin) - Posts: 4051 - 20/10/2023 15:02:43 2509476 Link 1 |
That could be interesting ! Coaching and development clearly seems a priority need . Just Reading Pat Spillanes book out recently he says "Practise makes perfect" should read "perfect practise makes perfect" I totally agree. There is a major difference in my view. A training session has a very important function on the road to improvement. Why TRAIN ? to deal with a need ! otherwise why bother ? ....So training sessions have to be structured around needs .Only then can it be called perfect practise.and thus a training session. Training sessions are expensive and should be measured by QUALITY .We hear "oh we had 4 training sessions last week". so what? I hope this new director suggested has a good hard look at training sessions and how they can be improved .Value for money has to be a consideration also even if you are not supposed to think like that, He who pays the piper..... The last match identifies the needs and structure of the next training sessionl I have been critical about training sessions not showing improvement in on field performance for years now. Why? I accept you need a relatively settled panel ideally to implement this thinking to full effect.I know Colm has persevered by giving every lad a chance for selection and that has an impact in perfecting the value of training sessions with so many varying needs and experimentation with players for selection. That is part of the honeymoon period coming to a close now. I applaud the efforts to find the best players in the county and no critisizm about Joe Bloggs not getting a chance. I will expect to see a more informed ,structured approach to training sessions as a means to improvement now. The manager oversees everything that requires needs to be dealt with, and he carries the can. The top table give total support to this objective otherwise whats the point? nobull456 (Meath) - Posts: 1266 - 20/10/2023 18:47:18 2509511 Link 10 |
We have no luck at all. A likely exit in quarters if we get that far. The loss to Offaly now appears even worse. It lost our seeding in Leinster. And could take a long time to get that back. I will pray and hope that a good league will propel us to the championship. I'll also have my royal glasses on I. The hope that dubs won't be prepared as much as they will want to peak at quarters onwards in all ire. Anything to give me some hope royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 19449 - 21/10/2023 17:21:16 2509572 Link 0 |
Thoughts on the LSFC draw? Longford first and winners v the Dubs, might not be the worst time to tackle them Richieq (Meath) - Posts: 3744 - 21/10/2023 18:15:43 2509578 Link 10 |
Probably best time. But the loss v Offaly has come back to bite us. We lost the seeding. I hope and pray that we would beat them. But my head tells me no

Yeah I mean we're not going to win Leinster anyway, and are already guaranteed Sam Maguire football so getting to the provincial final isn't important. We get a free crack at Dublin as prep for the All Ireland series, I can see positives in that. Might be an opportunity to catch Dublin on the hop too. hyperache (Meath) - Posts: 254 - 21/10/2023 19:33:44 2509590 Link 1 |
Interesting draw as dublin over the last few years had to play there quarter finals away from home, so if Meath do beat Longford will we play Dublin in Navan.

We have lost seeding before, I dont see that as a major issue, I'd be happy to see priority put into the league and try and be in the promotion battle going into the last couple of games and there is no reason why we shouldn't aim for that. Achieving Sam Maguire football by winning the Tailteann Cup is beneficial two fold in that we should draw confidence and experience from winning a Croke Park final and the pressure is off to a certain degree, we should be able to play with more confidence and we will hopefully have a shot against the Dubs, something I think all Meath players will and certainly should relish and look no harm I know we had some pretty depressing results last year and I suffered through most of them but that squad bucked themselves up and won the competition they were in and I think it benefitted them greatly, that trumps any defeat to Offaly in Leinster for me, we are not in the 80's, 90's or 2000's anymore and need to adjust our thinking to suit we have a young squad with potential and we should allow them the time to try and achieve their own legacy if they can. That's just my opinion.

The interesting thing about this is that if Meath beat Longford then the Meath Dublin game could be in Navan, Dublin have to play there leinster quarter finals away from home. Royal.Legend (Meath) - Posts: 685 - 22/10/2023 19:51:49 2509667 Link 0 |
For me it's all about league. Need to aim for promotion and not use the tc seeding of 4. Which would show progress. While winning it gave us confidence and belief that will disappear if we don't back it up in league. The one positive as has been mentioned is the match should be in navan.

Yep you are right. And Meath Gaa need to hold the nerve and not move it to a neutral venue. Navan or nowhere lol

Jeez RD - no point in Longford turning up to play ye, by the sounds of it on here... lol ;o) Great to see you now have more confidence in COR and team progression btw - ;o) Teasing you of course. Fionn (Dublin) - Posts: 4051 - 23/10/2023 10:13:10 2509749 Link 0 |
Agreed - TC qualification is a nice to have but the league should be a priority irrespective of the All Ireland qualifiction.

No point thinking of Dublin yet. We done that in 2018 and Longford caught us out! UsernameInvalid (Meath) - Posts: 409 - 23/10/2023 11:41:43 2509793 Link 1 |
A lovely idea but I can't see it happening, health and safety would come in and absoloutely crease the capacity of PT further than it is already, the plan at present it seems is to start redevelopment work after the league concludes in April, let that happen if it can because it needs too, anyway let's not be presumptuous here we need to beat Longford first and I'm not taking that for granted.
