Replying To Royal.Legend:  "My god that post is depressing so you have written off meaths chances in 2024 after they lost a challenge game against cork in December 2023, challenge games are indeed the time to try different things thats what there for so I applaud Colm for that, to quate Eddie Jones I think you need a shower just to wash all the negatively off ye."
Rediculous to state our chances are gone in a december challange and equally as rediculous to laud cor for playing someone in a different position. Heres hoping we have better sense on here this year!!

Watched the game on a stream. Few lads played well to be honest. Thought Jones was our best player and it looked like 6 suited him. Heard Harnan is finished up with Meath so this could be Jones permanent home for the year. Other than that Lynch was lively and Jack Flynn showed a bit of drive but our kickout did get cleaned out. As said here before though a December charity game, no clue where we are at training wise so wouldn't put much stock in it

Disappointed the hear that on Harnan as he finished the year really well last year and look fit.

It is very worrying and Im afraid the hammering tonight is a sign of things to come for the year!! of course it was only the first challenge but you can be guaranteed that Cork wanted to continue their progress from the outset! Playing players way out of position show that COR has learned nothing from last year if he has to start trying his players in other positions!
We are in trouble this year and already leaking 3-12 in games!!"
Difficult to take your post seriously, how can you reach such a conclusion based on a charity match in Dec. There was nothing in this game for Meath, it was all about turning up to honour a former opponent in front of his friends and family and a credit to all concerned for giving up their spare time, travelled up and down same day with an inexperienced squad, the result meant nothing it was all about the occasion.

We were well in it for most of first half but conceeded a poor goal and couple of points late on, Cork had a strong wind in second half and were well on top, Flynn, Jones and Lynch up front were good in patches and game became hard to follow for last 30 min with so many players coming and going, must have been about 18/20 subs in total. Our backs were very inexperienced and found the going tough. Would be harsh to judge anyone on yesterdays game.

I'd take a screen shot of that. I think 2024 could be bleak. All super committed, well conditioned, proud Meath men.

Replying To Sheridan2010louth:  "That would imply that we have a group of more experienced players that are better than these young lads coming in. But that is so far from thr truth, i can confidentley say that Conor Gray, Eoghan Frayne, Brian O'Reilly, Ruairi Kinsella, Alan Bowden and Adam McDonnell are better than a lot of last years panel. Billy Hogan is the best Goalkeeper in meath also. Gray, Frayne and Hogan i'd put my house on being excellent inter county players."
Gray, Hogan and Frayne all on the squad last year. There will be 10 or 12 of last years under 20s in the squad. That is simply too many. They didn't exactly pull up any trees. The jump from underage to Senior inter county is massive. Personally feel that we continually do this and end up with too many players not physically able to compete.

Not sure he'd know how to take a screenshot! He's only learning to type by the looks of it! :)
Every county team will be super conditioned and committed so I believe a lot has to do with good systems and "good coaching"!! If we don't get a real good coach or 2 you are right it will be bleak!!
Regarding bringing in all these U20s - I assume they wont all last! Get a bit of exposure to the senior and go back to a development squad or something. but COR needs to be concentrating on how is actual panel is going to play this year!
Defense needs to be solid as a rock and the No. 1 priority! Who is our Defense coach?? And we need a system where we don't concede cricket scores!
And this work needs to start now! We don't need to be starting from scratch again by bringing in a load of young lads to trial and experiment!!

Are the older lads any better than these guys apart from a few obvious exceptions even as we currently stand? How are they ever going to be physically ready if not involved so by getting them involved early, i guess they will physically improve and be much stronger as time goes on. Better to go with youth and ability to improve rather than hold them back and have guys that have reached their peak already which we know isn't and won't be good enough. In an ideal world there wouldn't be as many but i don't like the look of the alternatives.

You're writing off our chances for 2024 based on:
1) A friendly game in early December 2023
2) Meath playing a young experimental/developmental team
3) Meath missing a heap of injured and absent players from our regular team
4) Playing a Cork team with a lot of their regular experienced players

Good man

Great reading all of these statements, statements without facts. Id love to know how many teams anyone behind the comments have they managed, they obviously found it very easy and won loads, saying that people aren't up to coaching playing is just your opinion. Were you in Cork the weekend?. Hurlers on the ditch.

Nope!
Im eluding to the fact that we got well beaten in the matches that counted last year. A lot of the league matches and didnt do anything spectacular in Leinster either if you remember! those are the facts!! and Im saying that instead of improving the backroom coaching staff we probably have made it more inexperienced!
Unless we get a really good experienced coach in place then yes I am writing them off!

Well... maybe some adjustment would read better. Agreed unless there is improvement in coaching for 2024 there will be little progress. Like it or lump it coaching was poor to moderate at best in 2023. How could that be disputed i wonder? Why coaching is not good enough might be a good question maybe. Are they free to do the job but still be accountable to the manager. As seen here on this forum there may be some valid questions here.. I do not know what the truth is here. The REAL issue is coaching is NOT good enough ,and has not been good enough for modern day football for several years at this stage. The manager has made some changes here ,and lets see what happens now. Again in my view he would have been wrong to not have tried to improve in this long standing problem area. He continuous to have this posters full support in trying to improve things. I applaud him for his attempts to find the most suitable players to wear the jersey. He did have a time period in mind to show improvements .The time is not out yet. As long as he tries to improve on weaknesses i am happy. I wonder what he has in mind to improve on free taking standards as well. Top teams can bank on at least 6 or maybe 8 points from reliability in this key skill. Perhaps 2024 will show us that this development need is receiving the attention it deserves also with others

Your very selective in your facts, facts also are that the group stuck together, worker hard, remained dedicated and improved as time went on and won a national trophy in Croke Park but that doesn't suit the narrative of you and your ilk who seem completely happy to sit back, criticise and puke negative bile all over the place.

Can we please stop with the national trophy nonsense. The only reason we were in it is beacuse we got relegated. But we don't hear the r word on here much. Can u just imagine if it happend under mcentee.
Just waiting on martin o connell and stafford to come back now and were fully back in the 80s

'Facts'... You're staring to sound like Rafa Benitez there buck.

But Facts indeed. You're very selective about what facts you choose. But you ignore other facts.

For the record, I don't think Meath will win an All Ireland/Leinster/Div 2, or get promoted. I'm mot delusional. But I expect and improvement on last year.

You're some Meath supporter.

Well as replies go that's up there as one of the best, I must remind myself not to cross swords with your razor like insight into our present position.

Won a national trophy ?... Technically yes.

Improved as time went on during the season ? The jury is out on that.

Because of the entirely sub standard opposition we faced and I include Down in that who were the best team we faced in the TC but were also a team who despite all the hype around them because of Conor Laverty couldn't finish in the top 2 in a poor Division 3 so I don't believe that the claim of improvement during the year is anyway credible.

I sincerely I hope it was genuine improvement but I don't believe we will be able to make that call until after this upcoming League campaign or at the earliest after 3 or 4 of the league games.

All that being said I also wouldn't be writing off the entire year after one heavyish defeat in a charity game in early December . People on both sides of this debate need to reign it in a bit and lets see where we are at halfway after the Kildare league game at home.
