Did you not see Donegal's game at the weekend? I would hardly say this is a team in a disarray lol. Down didn't win a game in league or championship including Tailteann cup last year and were hammered in most. I hope I have explained this clearly enough to you. Down finished on the same points as Cavan in Division 3 who got promoted. You really don't have a clue what is going on do you? Maestro (Meath) - Posts: 584 - 25/05/2023 00:34:25 2481395 Link 20 |
Yes that is important that his needs are cared for .No doubt when recovered he will play his way back for selection. Indeed the same goes for any other player..In fact i think even being dropped can be positive. Regardless of what spin is pushed out if a player is competitive enough he will silence the doubters by working his way back. If he does not wish to do that well then there are no losers if he is not competive enough he is not good enough Because i have a bee in my bonnet about workrate, slow starts i got the opportunity to ask a person who would know the score..The real reason is inexperience and nervousness amongst younger players with the current level of expectation . The suggestion that there was any rumblings of discontent as on social media .was dealt with "Total Rubbish lies.....ah we all know who is trying to spread that......just ignore it. That was dealt with emphatically and honestly I believe him . I await developments on how the mental weakness of slow starts and inconsistent workrates are dealt with. When that is dealt with i do believe improvents will flow .to all areas. That issue has to be at the top of the only agenda... IMPROVEMENTS !! nobull456 (Meath) - Posts: 1266 - 25/05/2023 09:18:21 2481424 Link 20 |
The mighty Down. No wonder we are such underdogs. Well in fairness under cor if we draw new York we will be underdogs too. So keep up.

Anyway getting back to our terrible year all round with 20s minors and seniors leading the way in how not to perform it's unbelievable how badly organised we are all over. royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 19449 - 25/05/2023 11:19:51 2481465 Link 0 |

Not directly related related to anything .Sometimes as in boxing instead of slugging away and trowing punches at fresh air maybe it would be wiser to just take a rest on the ropes. Take the compulsary count of 8.. Its even ok to pretend injury ..to throw in the towel even. Anything is better than punching at fresh air and burning yourelf out for what? Maybe a review of "progress"( or lack of it) of objective or agenda could help here This journey is very much about learning for all including us posters.......mature people they say look for nourishment not punishment! nobull456 (Meath) - Posts: 1266 - 25/05/2023 11:52:19 2481475 Link 20 |
I am not contemplating anything other than a win. As the old saying goes it's time to **** or get off the pot. royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 19449 - 25/05/2023 17:16:41 2481604 Link 1 |
The normal panel structure includes a development panel for young lads with potential but not yet able to win a place on the full panel and a panel of players temporarily out with injury who undergo rehab together to expediate recovery. These are back up only to the main panel. I don't know if present management bother with new fangled things like that ,as they would say themselves. Not related to anything.. a very well known sportsman was amused by how i linked things to boxing. I said how do you mean? You seem to be taking about a boxer who is getting walloped ,and nearly out on his feet. I said well yeh and so what? He said in that case we boxing coaches would be coaching a boxer to do his best to avoid being in that position. Yeh..and so what am leaving out i said. There are several boxing terms such as ducking and weaving thats a help but its not enough it will only go so far he said. So i said.. ok so your the expert this could sound high fallutin so we will cut it here. If you could give that boxer just one piece of advise and one only in those circumstances what would ib be ? Ah well thats easy the golden rule to begin with he said.....I said and whats that ? NEVER LEAD WITH THE CHIN he said . Yeh i said thats common sence i suppose .. He replied Yeh but always remember common sence is not so common . He seemed to have plenty of it .Then again as i always say ITS NEVER TOO LATE TO LEARN. nobull456 (Meath) - Posts: 1266 - 26/05/2023 11:29:17 2481696 Link 17 |
Its common knowledge Meath have a development panel that work alongside county panel, three or four lads from it recently made the step up. The clear message from management been if your good enough you will get your chance. Never heard of a panel for injured players, if a lad on panel gets injured (short term) he remains with panel while rehabbing. Long term I expect he would first have to play some games for his club, bit of a stretch to expect a player to return to intercounty from major injury. Four or five injured players were named checked by COR last week, who hoped one or two might make it back for Down game. Information is readily available for anyone with a genuine interest in Meath football.

While donegal did win at the weekend (in a very poor game), how can you not say they aren't a team in disarray. Their manager left after about 3 months into the job, their structures at underage have been thrown into jeopardy because of the county board and they have had a mass exodus of top quality players this year. They most certainly are a team and county in disarray. We are underdogs against down because they have a top quality manager. Both squads have relatively the same quality of player, but the structures both offensive and defensive will ultimately determine who will win the game. And unfortunately I reckon that will be down. Would love to be wrong and if we were to win it would be the biggest result under o rourke to date and would give us all a big lift but I just can't see it.

Just curious to know if there any specific examples of where management dismissed some potentially valuable "things " solely because it was seen as " new fangled". Not trying to be smart here but i am always against just naval gazing and maybe hindering looking at more modern thinking to raise standards.. Dublin are where they are because they looked outwards and in many cases established best practise . We can see where their ATTITUDE changed from the annoying swagger to a position where to a man it was about how can i improve for myself and or the benefit of the team.?....all about the team and improvement and more power to them . Again i say this is all about learning by gaining new knowledge and insights which in my view should be welcomed . I know we can play with words sometimes but i would be concerned if somebody put limits on learning without full consideration and debate .FRESH thinking can often be just what the doctor ordered .

I dont think there was any clear message as to how he picks the panel or what the strategy is. There are many players in the top clubs better than those on the County team , It is not clear whether they were not picked or did not want to play for the manager or both. If you know where the information is readily available then let us know why the top performing clubs and players are not there and Meath went to a Leinster Championship with the bulk of players players operating from Junior ,Intermediate and the poorer senior clubs who are not achieving.

Absolutely. But I'm regaining my confidence. Surely this year has to turn around. We have to win.

The world and his brother know Donegal are in complete disarray. Everyone apart from that particular poster would agree with that statement. Even my biggest detractors on here haven't uttered a word to say Donegal aren't in disarray. It's worrying that someone in Meath who ourselves are in a massive slump can't even admit that. It's a talking point all over the Gaa about what has happened in Donegal. To state they are not in disarray is either one of 2 things. 1, they taking the p155 or 2 they genuinely haven't a clue about football. I fear it may be the latter

Same old story, county is full of good players who dont get a chance or have a gripe with manager. In reality this is just wishful thinking, This has been the standard excuse im Meath football for years. Panel is selected on merit ,commitment and desire to play for their county and door has not been closed to anyone.

Have to agree with this, bar mcgill and maybe eoin harkin there is no one else that you could say for definite 'he should be in the Meath squad', but we do have better players than limerick louth Offaly and kildare (feel like players like Daniel Flynn are highly overrated).

Yes... I would agree.... I do think making a general statement can be very subjective. It should be supported by specific examples that could be verified by observation even at club matches. Otherwise I don't see the value. I think every player meeting the criteria you mentioned has got a chance. Maybe frustration can impact negatively at times with us posters, just proves we are human.

How the times have changed. Last year and year previously you were saying the team is not picked on merit but rather who is related to who and from what club. Yet these same players are on panel now so it's on merit now. Talk about hypocrisy. Btw the last number of managers had the best in county on panel. But that didn't suit ur agenda. Well Donegal bet Clare pulling up by 5 points in their last game. Clare deservedly dumped us out of the championship last year. Maestro (Meath) - Posts: 584 - 27/05/2023 15:47:24 2481936 Link 17 |
