Absolutely point well made and fully accepted of course .As you say deliberate lies to divide is a no go area. Luckily it seems that may fizzle out due to no support base . I think IGNORE is the appropriate response.

I probably expected a bigger win than this but it seems to be in keeping with how results are playing out so far in this competition (after one and a half rounds of it), for example Cavan only beat London by 6, Down beat Waterford by 11. No team so far has got a really bad beating. GreenMan1987 (Meath) - Posts: 53 - 21/05/2023 11:37:37 2479928 Link 3 |
Meath have got 2 real gems in Conor Gray and Eoghan Frayne, really looking forward to watching them. See some people commenting that Frayne is being played out of position at 11, couldnt disagree more its the position that suits him most. The only other impact players i see coming are Jack Kinlough and Liam Kelly but they wont be involved with the seniors until next year. Kinlough was just as good as Conor Gray for the 20s this year. I don't think it's an agenda to point out that defensively we are absolutely miles off. Waterford got 1-14 and could have easily got 3 more goals were it not for Sean Brennan pulling off decent stops. And I don't think it's agenda driven to say there's been a run of 8 games without one good consistent performance in there. I could see a few good scores from forward interplay yesterday. But against better teams our forwards haven't been able to win that type of ball and we've been so open defensively that we can't stay in a game. Going off the last 2 performances (on top of league and the Offaly game) I am concerned about the Down game because I don't see improvements in terms of workrate around the pitch, consistent patterns of play, decision making etc. As always hope I am proven wrong but on current form and trajectory I don't see it

Absolutely no problem with you pointing out the current weaknesses and indeed good to debate them. However there is an 'agenda' when calling for player strikes and now club intervention! Does nothing for Meath football and any prospective manager would run a mile from the job. But none of this bothers our friend. royalproxy (Meath) - Posts: 46 - 21/05/2023 13:49:26 2479958 Link 13 |
Agree with every word . Those are the concerns no doubt. Defence in particular is a major concern Full back line options? Workrate as you say . I think a playback video before the next training session will confirm that cannot continue .That is very hard to explain. As you say scoring stats may be improving .Lynch,Morris and Costello staying inside as a target man at least initially . I think Costello has a big future . fielding ,speed, and can score Forward places for scorers can become competitive again Thomas O Reilly has earned a start from the Tipp match Shane Walsh if fit has earned a start. Grey/Jones midfield promising both good fielders giving Brennan more options that have been limited for a long time.Brennan himself saver our bacon and seems to show leadership . No you just stated the facts with no hint of any negative agenda in my view. Solutions can only be addressed by properly structured training sessions .There will be no improvement otherwise. Down are beatable. On yesterdays form we wont beat them. We CAN beat them IF we take corrective action particularily as you say WORKRATE . To try to focuss on positive I think that we may now be able to score more than Down IF our last line of defence can get their act together. As i keep saying its down to the quality of training sessions, and workrate. nobull456 (Meath) - Posts: 1266 - 21/05/2023 14:20:13 2479963 Link 14 |
Forgot to add to this. Best part of yesterdays performance. 1-9 from dead balls and we didn't miss any. Been a long time since that happened

That was definitely a good option. Btw royalpoxy seems to have been only set up to go against my good self. Wonder where Brian is ? :)

There was 3000-4000 at this game? Very impressive for TC game I'd say biggest crowd so far macca999 (Fermanagh) - Posts: 1145 - 21/05/2023 14:49:34 2479972 Link 0 |
Ah when I think back on it, it might have been closer to 1500/2000, it wasnt busy by any stretch, I might have taken liberty with my first number but it was definitely a few thousand. In spite of that, lovely friendly atmosphere. I hope I get a summer game in Dungarvan again at some point. Btw Fermanagh look to be motoring in their group, best of luck in the next game. Id be fearful as a Meathman of drawing Fermanagh in the next round. Young_gael (Meath) - Posts: 596 - 21/05/2023 15:05:15 2479976 Link 8 |
I'd say close to 2k. But atmosphere was terrible. Beautiful place though

Thanks young gael. 2,000 is as good as going to get until it gets to knockout in tailteann cup I'd say. Ah Fermanagh bit better yesterday but lots to work on still with tougher games ahead macca999 (Fermanagh) - Posts: 1145 - 21/05/2023 16:31:15 2480000 Link 0 |
Haven't seen mush of Fermanagh lately any new additions?

Big win for Down. Pressure on the next day to show we can stop the slump. Here's hoping. Hon the royal. royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 19449 - 21/05/2023 19:27:39 2480144 Link 1 |
Thought it was a relatively poor performance on Saturday night. Still the glaringly bad issues at the back (waterfords biggest score) and probably should have had 1 or 3 more goals on top of that. O' rourke was on off the ball during the week saying that they have been working on a defensive structure since he took over, which is incredibly worrying as we are so poor at the moment. contributingtoamelee (Meath) - Posts: 55 - 22/05/2023 08:54:31 2480296 Link 3 |
You don't think it's agenda driven to name 3/4 clubs (one of which I'm involved in) in Meath and state that each of these clubs are ready to move against the current manager? Not only was it made up nonsense (did he travel to the county and interview all the delegates??) - it was perhaps the most extraordinary (not to mention defamatory) statement I've ever seen on this forum and should never have been published. It's why nobody on here has any respect or regard for the agenda driven content of this particular individuals delusional (being kind here) posts.

Yeah I wasn't just talking about that poster in particular. Fully agree that statements like that just cause division and are unnecessary. But you would have to agree that the defensive performance on Saturday was fairly shambolic.

i will openly admit that Id be nervous about COR , for many reasons , and that means i have a natural bias probably. So like alot of people here, in the best interests of the County, im hoping that he changes & changes fast Now in fairness. I think he has got an almighty rude awakening to Inter County Management 2020s. What i pray is , that he examines, how badly he was caught , and looks ta his own perspectives as opposed to "blaming the lack of quality seasoned players" ...that is such a toxic road to go down & will set the county back COR said all the "right" things when he got the Job....now the reality is , that He , more than any , has to be the fattest of Learners , at an age where People don't naturally learn as quickly as they once did. He has the chance to do a great thing during his time in the Hot seat , .....but he needs to think beyond himself now more than ever. he has the job, its not what he thought it would be ...now do the best you can, but crucially , do it by bringing people along with you, dont create division & rancour Thelongwoodslasher (Meath) - Posts: 403 - 22/05/2023 14:34:26 2480540 Link 1 |
Very well said sir! Totally agree as I'm sure the vast majority of posters will as well. Terrible stuff!
