Tailteann Cup

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Surprised this forum not up yet but ill gladly start it.

Looking at the teams involved and the current situation COR must be thinking, We really need to win this competition to progress.

At 5/1 in PP I think it could be a very good investment. With the exception of Cavan and maybe Down & Offaly there is nobody really capable of winning it.

I believe we MUST win this competition and use it as a stepping stone on the road to progression, draw a line in the sand and start here.

I cant wait to beat those BIFFOS !!!!!

Group 1: Cavan, Offaly, Laois, London

Group 2: Meath, Down, Tipperary, Waterford

Group 3: Limerick, Wicklow, Longford, Carlow

Group 4: Fermanagh, Antrim, Wexford, Leitrim

Well I would have thought that that was a fairly nice draw. In reality, Tipp and Waterford are two of the weaker teams and while taking nothing for granted I would think we should have enough to beat both of them. Down look like a decent outfit but the game against Armagh at the weekend suggests that Tailteain Cup is the right place for them. This will be the hardest game in the group and if we can't beat Down, I can't see us winning the Tailteain Cup. Cavan look likely to top group 1 and Fermanagh will probably top group 4. Group 3 is probably harder to call.

Hopefully the lads have used the time off to prep right, get the heads in order and be ready for this championship! Surely winning it is better than not!!

This is a good draw. First two games are vs. Tipperary and Waterford, hopefully setting the Meath side up for a close game v. Down.

Group 1 is hard to look past Cavan and Offaly.

Group 3 will be tight. Its a good opportunity for all four counties.

Group 4: youd have to fancy Fermanagh and Antrim.

Little discussed but the caliber of the coaches going head to head in this tournament will be interesting. Some big names.

Of course, winning it should be the goal. Either way we must treat it with respect, "The we are Meath" days well and truely behind us. Group draw has been kind to us, home to Tipp and away to Waterford and Down at nuetral venue. Three games and hopefully a few more, all concerned need to use the experience wisely.

Lads

If we cant win this competition I give up.

We need to get best 15 on the pitch and we should beat any of these teams.

We won't even get out of our group let alone win it down and Tipperary will beat us id imagine we should be beating Waterford but with this team and management I wouldn't trust them to beat anyone

That brings up another question - who are the best 15 available to management and willing to play!

If we don't beat Tipperary (and I'm half Tipp myself!!) and Waterford then things are worse that I thought!!

Three third placed teams actually qualify for the knockouts. It's then that the men, the boys and the lazy will be separated. So far we couldn't be described as men…..prove me wrong…….don't be lazy boys!!!!

Kinda same boat myself. Probably around semi final level is where I'd see us sit at the minute.
Whether a few wins on the way to a semi final would bring confidence on enough to go any further is another question...

Any idea when GAA will announce the confirmed fixture times and venues?

Tipperary and Waterford is a good opportunity to build momentum, we shouldn't be slipping up in either game. The neutral game against Down, likely to be in Clones or Breffni Pk I'd imagine should be the group winner decider.

Down going to Thurles is no gimme either, they won there by 3 in the opening round of the league so not a certainty they go there an win. But they looked very strong against albeit a feeble Donegal side, so Meath will certainly need a massive improvement from what we've seen thus far to win that game.
