Lots of work to do for COR over the next few years. thelutch (Meath) - Posts: 1073 - 18/02/2023 18:56:11 2458904 Link 1 |
I'm not pro Mcentee or anti orourke at all, but maybe all the hams that were saying it was all the managers fault over the last few years see now that it's a tough job.... doesn't matter who ya pick, our players are mid div 2 at the minute . Goal is to beat louth and limerick now to make sure we are in all ireland, no other game matters. We actually could do with Dublin winning tmoro which I never thought I'd say. Outclassed in every department no exceptions. However , for now this is about learning and improvement .On learning massive amount to be done including management and over reliance on high ball and dealing with very defensive set ups. On the improvement factor no improvement visible in the circumstances..To be fair we have to accept that Meath are at the start of a big learning curve by comparison with Derry .If all concerned learned seriousely from this then we have every chance of improvement .I believe COR will be well placed to use this disapointment as a reality check including that the 7 goals in 2 games was a false reading. Massive workload ahead and i now fully expect a win against Louth on the road to recovery . nobull456 (Meath) - Posts: 1266 - 18/02/2023 19:07:37 2458909 Link 14 |
Just outplayed today, disappointed with the margin of defeat but perhaps a worthwhile reality check, we not as bad as shown today but not on an instant upward curve either. What's important now is the reaction next weekend, a local derby with Louth could be the perfect match to cleanse today's defeat, I expect Meath to win their next two matches and have 8 points going into the Dublin match, I can still see us finishing the best of the rest in the division outside of the two promotion teams which I think will be Derry and Dublin, Derry are a very decent side and will be the best in Ulster this year again I expect just a pity their manager can't have some decorum on the sideline and refrain from his constant spitting, people used to give out about Andy McEntee's behavior but Gallagher makes him look like a perfect gentleman. Up there with the very bad performances of the last decade by a Meath side. UsernameInvalid (Meath) - Posts: 409 - 18/02/2023 20:01:26 2458920 Link 1 |
Big reality check today shows the work we have to do before we can compete with the top teams. Derry have been improving under this management for the last four years and are a top four team, whereas Meath are only starting our journey and starting from a very low base. Expect there will be more downs that ups over next year or so. Think most supporters would have been more than happy to have four points after three games. Few teams will beat Derry at home, especially in thoes conditions, its about how we learn from todays harsh lesson, something we have failed to do over last few years. Some of the new lads show promise and the heads did not drop, so expect us to learn and get back to winning ways next week. seadog54 (Meath) - Posts: 2196 - 18/02/2023 21:06:15 2458928 Link 3 |

Beat Louth and this game be quickly forgotten. Crinigan (Meath) - Posts: 1352 - 18/02/2023 21:45:17 2458945 Link 6 |
Ask anyone and they would have said we were in for a loss today. What I can't understand is why didn't we just shut the game down in the first half and bring everyone back. If we were in the game at half time then with the wind in the 2nd half we could have atleast made a game of it. Foley91 (Meath) - Posts: 418 - 19/02/2023 07:25:08 2458951 Link 0 |
Conor glass and Brendan Rodgers made Ronan Jones and Brian Conlon look like Minors, different level altogether, every game we seem to be getting abused in midfield if we're being honest, would like to see Jack flynn in there very soon, he has the muscle not be getting pushed around and his skillet is a lot higher than the other 2. Some of the turnovers Jones and conlon made in the first half you wouldn't get away with at junior football level. Sheridan2010louth (Meath) - Posts: 184 - 19/02/2023 10:03:59 2458963 Link 1 |
The main role of the Manager is to pick the best players. There are always plenty of good players ina football county like Meath. We have seen a lot of players not up to Senior Inter County level on Meath teams. The fault is not theirs but who selected them. Let COR have the year to hopefully show he can get things better I think he will.

Headed up to Owenbeg last night and let's be honest it was an embarrassment. Game was over even before the second goal went in. Tried to play a kicking game but never kicked out of defense so Derry were always set up when we attacked. Physically we looked a mile off. Derry so much bigger, stronger and able to win contests. When the game was slow and in a stalemate we lacked any sort of game sense, running into blind alleys. Serious questions have to be asked about mental toughness. It's been a few years where against good teams the game has been done straight away and we haven't put up any sort of performance. Incredibly frustrating and so far to go to even get competitive LeitrimRoyal99 (Meath) - Posts: 1527 - 19/02/2023 10:22:22 2458967 Link 5 |
Sorry have to knock a few things on the head. After reading back here and watching game when I got home. Nonsense talk of taking over a team in low ebb. Maybe mentally but not practically. Fact is Colm and co took over a midtable division 2 team as many myself included felt for last two years we weren't achieving what we were capable of. That's first thing. To say otherwise is bs. Use the excuses of new management settling in, never managed county team before (u21s) was long time ago so won't count that, etc etc. but let's not let RTÉ and others cloud the facts. Colm took over a team and panel that had stagnated under Andy. There was no improvement last year, if going on year by year our performances v cork Derry and Clare were actually better last year , so we knock that talk on the head. royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 19449 - 19/02/2023 10:35:35 2458969 Link 1 |
Brutal stuff scoring 3 points from 35 mins and leaking scores every couple of mins just show how bad we really are . Goals in the last game vs Clare glossed over what was another rubbish performance in front of the posts with only 8 points. Colm will try his best but same old story just haven't got the players anymore. SheridansTry (Meath) - Posts: 180 - 19/02/2023 10:53:38 2458970 Link 0 |
Brian Menton is on the go with Meath since 2010, he has opted out. I hope we get to contest the All Ireland series, but if we don't then we need to accept our level and build from there. Management has a free pass this year, its really next year progression needs to be seen consistently. atta (Meath) - Posts: 704 - 19/02/2023 11:41:52 2458985 Link 4 |
Are we ever going to fix the midfield issue is that hard to ask to find one lad who can catch a ball Meathfor@life (Meath) - Posts: 85 - 19/02/2023 13:36:54 2459004 Link 0 |
