Have to ask why that game went ahead last night. It was terrible conditions and pitch wasn't great (ver few would be ). Leinster council should have called it off. Very hard for both teams. royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 19449 - 12/04/2023 18:37:52 2470649 Link 0 |
Excited and nervous for tomorrow. A massive game. Goals have killed us in 2018, 2020. 2021 and 2022 against Dublin at under 20. If we can keep them from scoring a goal in the first half I think we are the more physical and better team with most of the injuries cleared up. Seems like it will be a good evening to play football too so no excuses. LeitrimRoyal99 (Meath) - Posts: 1527 - 17/04/2023 13:53:50 2471381 Link 2 |
Early goals usually kill Meath underage opposition against Dublin, the minor match last week was no different.

Big support needed tomorrow night, to drive this on we talk a lot about Meath football teams let's really get behind them tomorrow loyalroyal23 (Meath) - Posts: 20 - 17/04/2023 16:23:16 2471414 Link 0 |
Any update on our injuries? Will we have a full panel or near one for tomorrow? Meath112233 (Meath) - Posts: 38 - 17/04/2023 16:27:40 2471415 Link 0 |
Keep the goals out and we will be in good shape! Best of luck to the lads against the dubs, hopefully there will be a large Royal County fan turnout and I really do hope we send them home with their tails between their legs. On paper this should be a win for Meath, unless there has been a major improvement from Dublin since this Meath group played Dublin in the Leinster Minor Championship games in 2020 & 2021, beating Dublin by a whopping 11 points in each of the championship games in those two years. However, I would issue a health warning and constructive criticism based on what I have seen in the first four games. Although we may beat Dublin, my big worry is how Meath consistently fade out in the final quarter of every game, worse last week playing with the wind, only getting one point in the last 20 minutes against Westmeath and the week before scoring nothing in the last 20 minutes against Laois (Why? See below). We have without doubt a panel of players good enough to win an All- Ireland this year but we won't win it if we continue the way we have played and set up so far. In my opinion our set up is too defensive minded, we have some great and very talented forwards on the panel, yet we only scored eight times in each of our last two games due to how we set up. Our full forward line scored nothing the whole QF game against Westmeath. Frayne is our only forward to score in all four games. No matter how little we concede we will not win an All- Ireland with eight scores per match, which so far has been against weak opposition. Tight games are won by teams who perform best in the last quarter and if we have aspirations of going far that needs to be sorted. We were out scored 1-3 to 0-1 in the last 15 minutes against Westmeath and out scored 1-5 to 0-0 in the last 25 minutes against Laois. I would have to disagree with people who think the tactics we have employed so far in this U20 campaign is giving us the best chance of winning an under 20 All-Ireland. When you go in front and then set up to dramatically reduce your own chances of scoring, you have expect that your team will be out scored and you will get caught out like we did against Laois. In my opinion I think it is a bizarre Meath management tactic, which was especially apparent in the last two games of substituting forwards and replacing them with backs, Ben Moran and Killian Smith (coming on and playing as forwards) when there were very good forwards on the bench, led to Meath being unable to score while leaking scores at the same time. In the Westmeath game for the last quarter, we ended up with three backs playing in the forwards, playing with the wind and yet people were surprised we only scored one point. In the Laois game it was very obvious one of our backs was struggling and that's where Ben Moran should have been put, in a position he is very comfortable in. But despite that tactic backfiring and having not worked in the Laois game the same tactic was used in the Westmeath game and the two lads came on again to play in the attack. The forwards who were left on the bench, incidentally scored a lot when they played against Dublin in the Leinster Minor Championship, Hughie Corcoran 1-5, Aaron Murphy 1-1 & John McDonagh 0-2. Dublin will not be as weak at Under 20 as they were against us at Minor and if it is a close game going into the last quarter and we make the same type of substitutions (two backs coming on for forwards who were not use to playing in those positions and leaving very good forwards on the bench) as we have done the last two games, we will find it difficult. Hopefully with the home venue and because of the early throw in, a lot of dubs won't make it down and the large home crowd will roar the lads onto victory. The better conditions should also suit our players and enable them to be more flamboyant than they were in the poor conditions in the four games so far. Come on the Royal's. So much for all this apparent talent of players never do anything after minor Meathfor@life (Meath) - Posts: 85 - 18/04/2023 19:51:16 2471670 Link 1 |
I'll say one thing, they're consistent. Great in the first half and brutal in the 2nd half. Selwyn (Meath) - Posts: 387 - 18/04/2023 20:03:05 2471674 Link 0 |
Nice comment by you there - send them home with their tails between their legs. Mmmm.??? That Meath team were fairly over hyped by some in here. That is an average Dublin team at best btw. Great evening for football in PT and good crowd. Fionn (Dublin) - Posts: 4051 - 18/04/2023 20:46:00 2471679 Link 1 |
Extremely disappointing result. royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 19449 - 18/04/2023 21:04:39 2471683 Link 0 |
Stupid post was it? They weren't as good as we hoped and they won nothing and weren't even close. Maestro (Meath) - Posts: 584 - 18/04/2023 21:07:33 2471684 Link 2 |
Disappointing this evening, it was looking good in the first half but Dublin seemed to have another gear in the second half. Odyssey1 (Meath) - Posts: 8 - 18/04/2023 21:26:17 2471686 Link 0 |

Disappointing result, with the biggest short coming mainly in attack. There seemed to be plenty of space in the Dublin defence but we didn't seem to be able to exploit the space or get the ball where it needed to go to make it count. We matched them reasonably well elsewhere on the pitch. LoyalRoyal (None) - Posts: 464 - 19/04/2023 05:15:48 2471701 Link 0 |
VERY GENERALLY...WE NEED TO HAVE A TOTAL RESET ON PLAYERS, MANAGEMENT & SUPPORTERS ATTITUDE & UNDERTANDING OF WHERE WE ARE...AND WHO WE GET OUT OF THE MESS I have no clue where we continually find this misguided belief we are good enough from...its killing us...we cant even get to The first step until we do away with it Thelongwoodslasher (Meath) - Posts: 403 - 19/04/2023 10:07:33 2471712 Link 1 |
Unbelievably poor second half, we let an average Dublin team look like stars, why in gods name does every Meath team seem to have a serious issue in front of the posts, our scoring rate across all teams is deplorable, I find myself scratching my head wondering what sort of coaching is going on in the county at all. Well to be fair, when they're all Ireland winning minor team coming through, you'd expect there to be a bit of hype. But once again another Meath team that seems to get lost from minor to U20s and a Dublin team that seem to have shown some sort of development. Not sure if it's coaching, or the Dublin system just nurtures talent better. But something seriously wrong somewhere.

If we went out and played a bit of football maybe? Saw enough of the rubbish against Westmeath last week. summerof09 (Meath) - Posts: 324 - 19/04/2023 10:32:02 2471729 Link 1 |
