Are the football games not fixed for Friday nights?

maybe a later throw in time ie 4pm coz it cant be played on the sunday coz the u21 hurling is on , i just think its unfair on players and mentors to be playing of a satuday at such an early throw in time

You are never going to please everyone. Was involved in an u21 side a few years back and no matter what time the games were at you would always have a few who were struggling with work.

A lot of young lads work in pubs restaurants hotels part time at that age at weekends and start work later in the day from 4 on wards so unfortunately it is what it is . Whatever time the games are on you will have lads who are trying to get off work.

I just saw the fixture list there - there is a far bigger issue than the actual times of the games! is that the hurling is on the Sunday - this means lads are playing Saturday and Sunday of the weekend! Two things about that - 1 - Player Welfare! 2. If these lads are working, can they take both Saturday and Sunday off!!

I was never a fan of the straight knockout, but at least you didn't have a scenario of lads playing 6 games over 3 weekends!!

As a parent of 2 college going children weekend work is there life line for survival and ours also as parents. This money buses them/feeds them and takes a huge pressure of us and there jobs are day jobs. It is a disgrace that they are out one day after another. U20 are the age you need to keep club and county a float. Hard yes to find a right balance but as i said to my 2 sacrifices will have to be made and the reply is MORE SACRIFICES ................. We are so happy both of them are involved in the GAA and we have hit hurdles before but times are changing and the demand on all is GREATER than it ever was............

After thought of a competition. Good to see league format this year but wrong time of year, clashing with colleges and regional competition and quite a few pitches are not holding up at all.

Reading these threads you'd wonder why anyone would want the stress of being a GAA administrator.

We can't hold it in January because the pitches are too bad.
We can't hold it in the spring because the County U20s are playing.
We can't hold it in May or June because lads have exams.
We can't hold it in the summer because players want to go to America.
We can't hold it in the Autumn because it'll clash with adult championships.
We can't hold it in Winter because the pitches are too bad.

The competition needs to be a group stage so players get plenty of games
The hurling also needs a group stage.
But there can't be more than one game a week.
But these 11 weeks of games (assuming no breaks) have to be fit in before the end of October.

Midweek games are also unacceptable because players are away at college.
Saturday afternoon games are also out because players are working (even though probably as many are working saturday evening).
It also shouldn't clash with any Leinster club games or regional games.

Anything I've missed?

Can you give a suggestion as to when it should be run off then as most these player's would be involved with their senior teams for the rest of the year so when would you propose this should be ran off?

I've no problem with time of year , probably no perfect time as always something going on but hurling and football on same weekend, that's ridiculous
Most clubs use the very same pool of players and asking them to play two game one day after the next is not responsible while on the other hand they bang on about player welfare
Who can defend this ??

Well done to trim on a fantastic win firstly but how is it possible for them to have their u21 fixture rescheduled on the grounds of player welfare. Every other club is expected to play u20 football on a Saturday and u21 hurling on a Sunday. Clubs with a fraction of the pick trim have. Some clubs appear to have massive influence in the county board.

Nothing to do with influence, so no conspiracy against smaller clubs, it was very simple, the rules and regulations that every club received before the competition commenced from Meath GAA, very clearly stated clubs involved in Leinster competitions would not be expected to play on the weekend of Leinster games and their games would be refixed for midweek.

Doesn't make it right and gives one team an advantage over other teams. Some players have to play one day after the other whilst others are given a 3 day break.

IMO. County board did right thing by setting out rules like this from the outset, and also by kicking off competition earlier. Last year the final was the week before Christmas and the morning after a Leinster club football match, which wasn't right either. At least they learned from that fiasco.
The likes of Trim and Ratoath, Castletown are representing the county with pride and it's in the best interest overall of Meath teams that they do well. Ratoath play next Saturday evening in the Semi Final in Crome Park and it's a great occasion for their club, and I wouldn't think it right to ask lads to tog out following morning. So what if they get a few days and know exactly what they need to do to qualify for a final. All teams have 5 chances to prove theyre worthy of a final place and I think that's far better than the straight knockout system at this grade.

I don't get your logic - surely the advantage if any is only against the other team that they are playing - and the other team that they are playing will also have the same delay as the Trim players have as they are also playing at the same time. So I might be missing something but I really cannot see this advantage that they are getting.

Ok the logic is the other 4 teams have players that have to play sat and sunday without a break.

But Trim aren't playing any of those 4 teams. They'll be playing a team who got an even longer break than Trim did, so how do Trim have an advantage?

I was just thinking exactly the same thing LOL.... I really have no idea what the issue is here ? That the CB are trying to help our clubs that are in Leinster by pushing some games back by a few days??? Wow the absolute cheek of them. Some people are never happy
