I'd agree with your last point. I've seen some good defensive displays all year (both Ryan's, McGill, Sean Rafferty to name a few). But I've not seen too many stand out performances from forwards. Shane Walsh early on in the championship had some but McGill clearly got the better of him in the semi. We have a lot of good forwards on the Meath club scene. But very few if any great forwards

Strange decision especially as kids were encouraged to have a kick about at halftime time during the games

Not as if there was going to be 50 thousand people pouring on to the pitch so hardly a health and safety issue Blackspot09 (Meath) - Posts: 1012 - 17/10/2022 16:26:17 2444374 Link 0 |
Protect the pitch was what I was told. Lot of games on it over the weekend and the weather was dire. The_Ripper (Meath) - Posts: 183 - 17/10/2022 17:21:19 2444387 Link 0 |
Pitch assessment for best pitch in the country is taking place tomorrow in PT. Probably explains why people weren't allowed on the pitch. Took a lot of over the weekend with the 5 games and bad weather conditions. royal11 (Meath) - Posts: 102 - 17/10/2022 18:16:20 2444396 Link 0 |
The Dunshaughlin supporters weren't allowed on the pitch after their game on Saturday either. Protecting the pitch doesn't add up considering kids and adults were on the pitch at half time at all games this weekend, and also most games for Páirc Tailteann are finished for the year. This along with the man of the match award for the Senior game amounts to a lot bewildering decision making by the Meath County board. County final wins are not gaurenteed every year and players and management want those moments on the pitch afterwards with their famllily and friends. Does anyone know who chooses the man of the match award for the final. Flynn was good but Mcgill McGowans Wallace were far better. rubia (Meath) - Posts: 26 - 17/10/2022 21:15:13 2444429 Link 0 |
What was wrong with the man of the match award? Could have gone to a few players but Nothing wrong with Jack Flynn getting it - could have gone to McGill or Wallace for Ratoath or Ryan (3) for Summerhill but no issue with Flynn - he did a huge amount of grunt work!

Good game if not a classic, Ratoath deserved winners, though the Ryan's played well for summerhill and Flynn, Wallace and McGill were good for the winners! Hopefully Ratoath have a good run in Leinster, would lift the county up a bit! Royalroller (Meath) - Posts: 86 - 17/10/2022 22:00:53 2444437 Link 0 |
It was never going to be a classic like 2019 but this team knows how to win ugly. Three Keegan Cups in four years from a team who many accused of having no bottle prior to the 2019 win. Ratoath Royal (Meath) - Posts: 1374 - 18/10/2022 13:41:09 2444494 Link 14 |
Just about to head back to Donegal after a heart stopping yet thoroughly enjoyable weekend. From seeing my adopted club Naomh Conaill win in Donegal on Saturday to hopping straight in the car and witnessing the home town club secure victory on Sunday, and a skip of porter in between!! I felt Ratoath were deserving winners on Sunday, even if they had a few hairy moments in playing keepball at the back, and there were some outstanding performances from Eamon Wallace (my man of the match) Ciaran O'Fearraigh, Jack Flynn and Daithi McGowan to name a few. It's remarkable to think that it's only 10 years since Ratoath won the JFC in 2012, followed up with an IFC in 2015 and now have won 3 of the last 4 SFC, that's quite the decade, and throw in a couple of Leinster's at Junior and Intermediate as well. I hope now they can go on a good run in the Leinster championship as this county badly needs our clubs to step up to the mark in that competition, Ratoath have proven themselves in Meath over the past decade with their success and progression and it would be great to see them do the same in Leinster. One must give credit to Summerhill too though who must hate the sight of Ratoath who have been their stumbling block over the past 4 years, they are a very good side with a very good passionate manager and I feel their rewards will eventually come in terms of silverware, a proper good club are Summerhill who will always be in the upper echelon's of Meath football. As an aside to the on-field action, I saw someone on social media accuse Brendan Cummins of "despising" Ratoath. Am I missing something here? Is there some history? BarneysTie (Meath) - Posts: 262 - 18/10/2022 15:04:44 2444506 Link 0 |
You could add David Rispin to that as well It comes across clear as day on the "we are Meath" pod cast Awaywin (Meath) - Posts: 116 - 18/10/2022 15:28:25 2444513 Link 3 |
I never thought that of Davy Rispin!

Just a little correction "throw in a couple of Leinsters at Junior and Intermediate as well". Ratoath did NOT win the Leinster Junior in 2012, they did win the Intermediate in 2015.

And well done on Sunday and give Leinster a go but Rhode will be a tough nut to crack, a club with a high participation rate in Leinster club football.

The wearemeath lads are grand fellas I'm sure but their expertise and focus is on north Meath clubs. It's a while since I've listened to them but they really could do with one of the presenters/panel members being from a south Meath club like Dunboyne or Dunsaughlin for example.

Disagree tbh. I am on their Patreon. They would be at all the senior games. Mickey Brennan would have played against a lot of them. And Davy Rispin is extremely clued with clubs across all levels from what I've heard
