I presume the team will be announced as same as last game with the changes announced on the day. ? royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 19449 - 17/02/2022 16:37:22 2400885 Link 0 |
Who knows, I assume you're right. We'll get the team 7am saturday morning and then expect the changes

That's what has been happening for awhile. I think it's cause the program is done on Wednesday and the team isn't decided until Thursday night. Or so I was told by a former player when I asked him.

Yeah that's the common thing alright. What's worrying for me this week is how little engagement there is about the game from people. I dunno if it's a case that people just don't care now or are apathetic to the whole set up. I'm genuinely not sure what we're going to see on Sunday, i would hope it's a team that has something about itself after their performances this season and wants to show it's better than what we've seen. Down are Down a mixed bag of a team who are normally more down than up.

A very quite build up to this must win game, survival in Div Two is essential for the future of Meath football. Its getting harder to get young lads to commit as is, however a drop to Div 3 with only an outside chance of competing in A/L series will cause more lads to rethink their future and puts us on a very slippery slope. Its a game we would have expected to win before start of season, however, with confidence at a low ebb the pressure is now on and Down will fancy their chances. A positive start and we should scrape home by a few points.

Blaming managers on team changes on the day is pointless, particularly this time of year. It's the same countrywide for managers, ridiculous demands that teamsheet be sent in by Thursday when players are playing sigerson still, maybe even that wednesday or thursday, stodgy pitches with players that aren't fully fit yet picking up niggles, not to mention antigen tests these days, day before or morning of game. Next to impossible to start team that was named 3 days previous. Personally I don't have an issue with team being named the morning of the game.

Good to see the return of Ronan Jones to matchday panel, his ball winning and energy badly missed. seadog54 (Meath) - Posts: 2196 - 19/02/2022 13:58:43 2401077 Link 9 |

Where is the full matchday panel listed? I only saw the starting team. Best of luck to management and team today. It's an important one for this season. stillaroyal (Meath) - Posts: 225 - 20/02/2022 10:56:48 2401217 Link 0 |

Went out last night for a few nice pint's and enjoyed the Dublin v mayo game looking forward to today's game in navan, convinced our season would get up and running, at halftime happy enough and though we'd win by 8 to 10 points , what transpired leave's me with no option only to return to the pub as supporting Meath would only drive you to drink… anyway off to tullamore next week for another season defying game, hopefully royler (Meath) - Posts: 278 - 20/02/2022 17:08:59 2401347 Link 1 |
Well, that wasn't great.... very little by way of attacking shape, no ideas around how to break Down down when playing with wind. Great to see Jones back, not too many other positions... Big game next week. Amarach (Meath) - Posts: 53 - 20/02/2022 17:15:55 2401349 Link 1 |
Very disappointing second half, we should have won that game. Meath forwards were poor and really down on confidence. To play most of the second half on the attack and only come away with 3 points was unbelievable. We are favourites bto be relegated now. bdbuddah (Meath) - Posts: 1402 - 20/02/2022 17:45:02 2401358 Link 4 |
I thought at HT that we'd do enough to get a win but I fear we are doomed to division 3. I can't see us getting a result other than Offaly. Tweety (Meath) - Posts: 31 - 20/02/2022 18:13:15 2401369 Link 3 |
Disappointing result in the end, got into a very good position at half time, thought we would have enough to get over the line but in fairness to Down they managed the game better than we did and could have snatched it. thelutch (Meath) - Posts: 1073 - 20/02/2022 18:18:19 2401372 Link 2 |
Familiar again. Jones made a difference but ultimately Meath seem better playing into the wind as they have no structured attack kicking the ball. We are better holding onto the ball running but as we have known for years under Andy, we won't win enough games without being able to kick the ball and gain territory quicker, we seem clueless in progressing the ball quickly up the field. Confidence very low in the forwards but Morris and walsh can win their own ball, I don't understand what the game plan is with the ball. Without McGill and Lavin the full back line is being torn to shreds. Thejoeshow (Meath) - Posts: 687 - 20/02/2022 18:47:23 2401385 Link 2 |
A total of 3 points in 70 plus minutes of football says it all. No score in 1st half against Galway. 3 points in second Down.
